Order 2

Mara 14 years old….

I don't know what day is today, but I don't care. I'm living my life in a small house with my aunt and grandma. Majority of our people ran away from here. Who wants to live here?

My aunt and grandma are worrying about food. We have nothing here. We have sold everything we could pawn over the years. Furthermore, we live on a tight budget, but apparently it was not enough.

I sometimes go inside the forest to find some game, even though it's forbidden for us humans to do so. We are not allowed to hunt or make a decent living anymore.

That reminds me we are ruled by lycans now. After going on a killing spree, they have decided to have fun with us. They make ridiculous rules and get a good laugh out of it. They have decided that we can get married, but can't have babies unless we get their approval first. To control our population, which was funny to me because there is hardly any man left among us. They have killed and maimed everyone here. We can hardly survive here alone, but to have babies is unthinkable.

When I went inside my home,, they were fighting as usual. I sighed, hearing loud voices. "I don't know how you can survive eating shit like this everyday ", my aunt was screaming. "If you wanted food so much, why can't you go with Mara for hunting ", my grandma asked her.

"I don't want to go with Mara inside the forest. If only you would let me go to court", my aunt screeched. "You want to go sleep with those creatures who killed your husband and cousin?", shouted my grandma.

"It's not like that we are taken as entertainers. You know how I love to dance, I want to perform. I'm an artist. I refuse to be hungry anymore ", she said.

"It's nothing but glorified prostitution, and I forbid it. The way you talk to me, I'm surprised you are my daughter. Sairee would never talk to me like that", said my grandma.

The truth is that my mom was an orphan, she was taken in and raised by Lima's mom. She is not my real grandma, but she is in my heart. Not every relationship can be blood related. Some are formed by heart.

"You have always compared me to Sairee. I wasn't beautiful or smart enough. She is your adopted daughter, not me. If you had a chance to adopt me if I weren't you real daughter, would you?", she asked my grandma. "That's enough, get out of my house. You are a disgrace, at least I had a daughter who fought and died for humans", my grandma said.

Aunt Lima stormed out of the house and stopped when she saw me sitting on the steps. "Did you hear everything?", she asked me. I preferred not to lie, so I nodded my head. "It's ok sweetheart, I loved your mom and I love you. But I can't live like this anymore. Goodbye, Mara. Remember, the world is not black and white. No matter what your grandma says. There is always Grey, which can be turned either way. It won't be perfect, but it will serve ", she said and gave me a kiss on my cheek.

"Please don't go, I miss you Aunt. I bought a squirrel today from hunt, and you can have it all", I said, my voice quivering. "It's Ok sweetheart. You must come and visit me at court", my aunt said, and just like that she left us. I was alone once again feeling a sudden pain on my chest and then numbness. I closed my heart and thought about my mom and dad. Furthermore, I knew my aunt is not happy here eating scraps.

Furthermore, I wanted her to be happy, like before the war. Furthermore, I remember being excited to watch her dance performance and remembered how we all used to go to town to see it. Me, my dad and my mom I wish those days come back, but I'm not naive. I know what my aunt is about to do. I only hope she survives that horrible place. I'm about to lose another family member to lycans.

I absently watch the notice lying down calling forth candidates for elite pleasure squad. They have three demands only it must be a woman, over the age of 16 and must be willing. It doesn't say much, but the message is clear, it was another alternative for women like me. Join them or be hungry forever. The choice was basic, but the results are going to be catastrophic.

They have taken everything from us now they will have our self-respect too. They have taken our technology, blaming it to be the reason for our bad ways. Now we don't have a TV or washing machine or a stove. The chaos of earlier times were gone giving rise to a monotony and gloom, they call it order.
