20 Chapter 20: Walking On Eggshells

JETT'S POV:

I spend the next few days walking on eggshells, convinced that Clover's secret will be revealed at any moment.

Most of our time is spent in the studio working on a couple of songs for the new album. Clover makes frequent visits to her father's office in an attempt to find out how Creed is doing but as of yet, he's still asleep.

There's no reason, as far as the doctors know, for him not waking up and so it feels like every day we're waiting for the news that he's finally awake. News that doesn't come.

Today we finally recorded Caged, the song that Clover wrote for us and it sounds bloody brilliant. Nash has insisted we celebrate. He wants to go out to a club.

"You can invite Clover," he says keenly.

"Er," Clover looks caught out, "I think she's busy."

"How do you know without checking?" he questions.

"Mum said something about going to the spa."

The lie sounds like it's been pulled out of the air and it's clear from their expressions that none of the guys believe her, but they don't press it.

"We could just get some beers and..." Rigby begins.

"But staying in is no fun," Nash complains.

"We can invite Nona and Crimson." Ziggy is practically bouncing on the balls of his feet with excitement.

"I guess we could have a house party," Nash concedes. "Are you sure Clover can't come?"

"Are you interested in Creed's sister?" I ask. "She's not the sort of girl you usually date."

"I don't date," Nash replies.

"Exactly."

As if on cue the others burst out laughing.

"I could date," he argues, a pout on his face.

"Unless you want Creed to slaughter you," Rigby smirks, "you should stay away from her."

"I can ask her to come," Clover says softly, and I almost bite her head off. I don't understand what she's doing at all. It's not like she can be two places at once. She comes up to stand beside Nash, kneeing him in the back of the knee, almost causing him to fall.

"But you can't hit on her."

"Can't make any promises." He gives Clover a cheeky grin.

If she was actually her brother, Nash could lose a limb or two but because she's not, the arse gets away with it.

"Should we leave right away?" Nash is saying but both Clover and Rigby are shaking their heads.

"Not bloody likely," Rigby says exchanging a conspiratorial look with Clover as she hands Nash his bass.

I'm not sure I like the look those two are sharing. It's a little too knowing, slightly too close and for some reason I'm a little bit jealous.

***

It isn't until much later that Clover allows us to stop. My fingers are seriously cramping up from playing the keyboard and Nash is grumbling about not having enough time to plan a party.

"Can't you just send a mass text?" Clover asks as she falls back on to the sofa with a sigh of relief. "Job done."

"Yeah but someone needs to go shopping."

"Just ask Switch," she says before yawning, "or I'll ask Jasper." She pulls out her brother's phone and sends a quick text to her mother's assistant.

Not two minutes later, Clover lets out the girliest scream I've ever heard, causing us all to scramble up from where we've settled on the floor.

Climbing up so she can stand on the sofa, she's pointing at something in the corner of the room. In her moment of panic, she's forgotten that Creed isn't scared of spiders and perhaps more importantly that Creed cannot scream like that.

"What's wrong?" Ziggy is asking, looking in the direction that she's pointing.

Nash is looking at her like she's bat shit crazy and I'm at a complete loss as to how we're supposed to rectify this situation.

Rigby simply grins before walking over to the spider and picking it up with his bare hands.

Show off.

Acting the part of her f*cking white knight, he leaves the room to get rid of the spider.

"I didn't know you were scared of spiders, Creed," Ziggy says with a scratch of his head.

When Rigby returns the look of gratitude that Clover gives him is far too sweet.
