3 Chapter 2: Devinille

Powers.

Our world revolves around power. If you're strong, your blood has a tint of silver or a shade of it. You can say that people are strong based on their blood color. Your strength corresponds to your blood color, and your blood color bases on your eye glow.

You'll notice that when someone gets a hold of their power, even a tiny bit of it, their eyes glow a shade of silver. That's how you'll know how strong they are.

Blood on the other hand, is more complicated.

Blood is the most important thing that you should protect. Your blood contains all your power and you can lose all of that if you got eaten.. But you could also gain it from doing the same thing.

The Ultimate Law. It is the strongest law on all the lands and it only has a few words: DON'T YOU DARE DRINK OTHER'S BLOOD.

My blood is one of the most important bloods of all. That's because my blood isn't silver or regular blood red, instead, it's gold. This is also the reason why I needed to live underground. The huge tree covered the smell of my blood from anyone who dared to break the law.

We all know that you'll gain power when you drink somebody else's blood. But nobody knows what happens if they drink mine. Even I don't know.

The Ultimate Law also states that you will be executed once you disobey the law, but some folks cannot be stopped.

Like this guy.

Our eyes glowed bright as we looked at our opponent. I also noticed how Alvin's eyes glow silver to white while we stayed quiet and focused on the person in front of us.

The moon light was pur only source of light to see the man. He was super thin and pale, like a normal person that couldn't find food or sleep in three days. If I didn't knew anything about vampires, I would've thought that this would go easy.

That we could just blow on his tiny body and he'll disappear.

But you shouldn't underestimate a vampire's power. They are on the middle of the triangle, almost as strong as werewolves. Even with their physical appearance looking like that, it would be hard for us to kill it.

He slowly walked slowly but he looked like he was ready to pounce on me. Both Alvin and I walked backwards, following each of his step on the same way.

Cccrraaaackkkkk!!

That's our que! The vampire quickly moved and ran towards me the moment he heard the noise. I jumped slightly but I know it was high, just high enough to dodge him. Alvin did the same to avoid the vampire but he was still a bit lower than me. He pointed his palms towards the vampire that is now increased in speed.

Stage one. Vampire's speed.

Alvin's hands glowed a powerful blue light until there were sparks and finally, fire. He freed his force and it was so strong that he burned half of the vampire's arm!

We heard it's scream and cried but it didn't stop chasing me. I just continued to jump to avoid him while Alvin threw fireballs at him.

I can't risk myself to use too much of my energy because that'll only make things worse.

Screeching sounds echoed the once quiet cave. Half of it's body is now burnt but It looked like it can still handle more.

The vampire stopped before he screamed high pitched, not to call others but to release his other power.

Stage two. Eagle wings.

When the vampire finally got his wings from his small back, Alvin stopped hitting him because it will be no use. This time, I held onto every bit of my power to what I was going to do.

The vampire looked at me horribly before he smirked and pounced.

"NOW!"

I jumped high and released my power towards the vampire who tried to fly towards me but got trapped inside a tornado. It was just enough to cover every bit of his feathers and trap him inside but inside, you'll feel like it was so big and you get pushed around by it.

I felt how my eyes glowed a brighter shade of gold, almost yellowish or white when I made the tornado smaller. We both heard the echoes of screams from inside it and I felt how the weight of the tornado lightened.

It's done. We killed it.

I felt how my knees touched the ground when I let my self fall. Alvin also felt relieved and rested his back on the wall while catching his breath.

I closed my eyes as I try to calm the force in me that built up again and wants to come out. I felt the small electricity flow on my palms as I looked at it. Just then did I felt how tired I really was

"You shouldn't have put me on a forcefield while you were running because you know that's what you're going to end up." Alvin said a few minutes later. His voice having a slight irritated tone with it as he delivered.

It's not like I think Alvin is weak. He's one of the strongest people I know. But I couldn't make him use too much of his force while he was running. I needed him to be strong so I can finish off the vampire.

"I'd die if I did that." I said as I stretched my legs on the cold ground.

I needed every bit of power Alvin had to protect both of us until we reach stage 2, because between the both of us, only I can finish the vampire. I just needed to store my energy and force to do so. If I didn't do that, we would have been dried out, literally.

"I can handle the vampire." He said after a few moments. I just shook my head and stood up. I walked towards him and tapped his shoulder.

"We should get going. That thing screamed loud, someone must have heard it."

Before leaving the cave, I tried to feel if there are anything other than trees that are blocking the wind's movement and when there were none, I looked at Alvin and gave him a nod.

He rolled his eyes and walked past me.

Wha-?

I walk so slow and quiet here just to make sure there aren't any booby traps or anyone hearing our footsteps and there goes this guy walking like he is on a park!

My jaw dropped but I just continued to walk. It's hard to talk some sense into him when he's pissed. I just stopped walking when he blocked my way with his arm. He gently pushed me back and I took a few steps backwards when I remembered we're here.

I watched how Alvin took a deep breath and how he fixed his stance before firmly speaking.

"Apparire."

With one powerful stump of his foot, the place started to move as a few of the tree's leaves started to fall down from it's branches. Slowly, an invisible town started to became visible in our eyes.

You can now see people in long robes walking left and right on the place that looked like an endless forest earlier. There's some folks that sells different kinds of fruits and vegetables, and some are trading a hen for a sack of wheat.

"Avigali." I said softly. I felt a small smile crept up my face as I looked on the wonders of this place.

Avigali is just a simple town that is within the lands of the fourth empire. Everything and everyone here looks normal but every person here has a different type of force they hide. It's just easier to see which ones are strong or not because of their clothing, it's based on your ranks.

If you dress nicely, it means you're rich and that you may be strong ( I met a guy last time that I thought was strong but he was defeated by an old woman on a match). If not, then it's the opposite.

I just had a quick thought. What do you think the government's reaction is when they can read minds of others?

Will they change their corrupt ways and start fixing things or will they still act blind?

My thoughts were stopped when I noticed an old man walking towards us. He got his hair tied up in a bun that I think looks cute. He's wearing a beautiful brown robe and had a big necklace across his chest.

He was accompanied by three men that was wearing the same thing as him. Two men where on both his sides and the other one was behind him. They too, were wearing large necklaces that looked like chains around their neck.

They stopped to look at us while ai stared blankly at the old man. I quickly wore a poker face when he bowed down for respect. The other two on his sides did the same thing, but the guy on the back looked at me carefully and only bowed down when someone poked him.

"Show your respects!" A bit of a whisper but is full of authority that was coming from the man on the right. He lowered his head more before quietly saying sorry until all of them rose up and stood up straight.

"We warmly welcome your return, Candit."

Almost like magic happened because right after the old man said my name, I felt the warm embrace of the sun's rays peeking through the trees. I smiled a bit and gave him a nod. "Thank you, Ka Illo." His face remained the same as he looked at the person beside me who was busy looking at the food on the stalls.

"Alberto Vixiente." He said and Alvin automatically looked alert. "Why aren't you wearing your robe? You're going too far away from our civilization, Alberto. You're beginning to forget our sacred rules."

I forced my self to look stern even though I wanted to burst out laughing. Alvin and I rarely go here and when we meet people we know, they only call him on his nickname, which was Alvin.

I tried to hide my laugh but Ka Illo must have noticed it because he looked back at me. "Is there something wrong with my son's name, Mariella Candittela?"

I stood up straight and my face became blank again when I heard my full name. On the corner of my eye, I saw how Alvin smirked.

"Ehem." I said before looking at Ka Illo. "Alvin said that you caught another one?" I said, changing the subject. Thankfully Ka Illo nodded and turned his back at us to show the way.

The moment his father's eyes isn't on us Alvin nudged me on the shoulder that made me look at him. He had his annoying smirk back to his face that shows he has another nonsense stuff to say.

He was taller than me so he bent his body a bit just enough for his face to reach my ear.

"Huh. Ma.Ri.EL.La." He said. I smirked before stopping on my tracks as I grabbed his ear gently before whispering.

"Huh.. Al. Ber. To. " I mocked him. I tightened my hold on his ear as I shove it away from me and continued walking.

I heard him say "Aw!" before he ran towards me and acted like it was nothing.

We entered a large cottage that is actually the prison for the alvigallians.

There were only three people inside and I only recognized two of them. We walked until we reached the last cell. The person inside the cell has gray messy hair that covered his eyes. He was sitting on the cold ground with his hands clenched when he saw me. His eyes darkened when I made I contact. He had bags under his eyes but that didn't really mess up his face.

His eyes were deep brown, almost the same as mine. He bit his lip as if stopping himself from saying something.

I looked around his cell to avoid his eyes. He actually looked like he was free to move, because there were no bars or walls around him that stops him from escaping the cell. But instead of bars, each cell has a strong and solid forcefield that stops anyone inside from using their powers.

"Name." I said firmly.

"Scott Devinille." Alvin answered. A small smile creeped along my face after hearing the name.

Damn, am I lucky?

I closed my eyes and felt my power before opening my eyes. A bright gold glow was the first thing he saw when he looked at me.

As I expected, he didn't have any emotion shown in his face. Not unlike others that would look away or bow their heads.

I clapped my hands once and stepped forward. I swear I knew I looked like a bitch right now. But it's okay, I want to see if he can be intimidated.

"Well, well. Isn't it nice to finally meet you, sir?" I said.

He looked at me blankly, with no emotions that can be seen through his eyes. They always said that a Devinille's eyes are a pool of lies. One cannot dive in because they wouldn't handle the pressure of knowing those truths.

I took a step once more, bended my body so that our heads level, smiled and let my eyes glow bright gold.

"Mr. Scott Isaac Devinille."

He clenched his hand once more while his eyes looked at me darker. That one reaction from him made me smile and even laugh a bit.

Damn.

I just intimidated a Devinille.
