4 Family Dinner

In the Wu family, my father always makes us sit down for dinner at least twice a week. Even if I'm not loved as the other children in the Wu family it doesn't change that I'm one of his kids. It's been three hours since I had a conversation with my father and I was trying to keep my emotions calm. When a maid came to my room and told me dinner was prepared I calmed my face and went to the dining room.

When I entered I saw everyone already present, my father and Li Yu Mei were having a small conversation to themselves, my elder brother Jake had his eyes closed and only one could wonder if he was truly asleep, and Lily was on her phone. My father saw me and motioned for me to sit, then told the workers to serve dinner.

I mostly stayed to myself and stayed out the family discussion, so I was shocked when my father called my name. "Sara, since the family is together I believe it's the right time to announce the plans for the future." He said while looking at me.

I put my silverware down and gave him a smile and a nod, seeing that he continued, "Everyone, I have decided to let Sara study abroad in a field of her choice. I have already made plans for her to leave next month."

After speaking everyone got quiet, I looked around the room and saw that Li Yu Mei and my siblings giving my father confused glances. My brother was the one who finally spoke up, "Father, with all due respect, why are you letting Sara have this privilege? If anyone should have the opportunity it should be Lily." He said while giving me a hard look.

I almost rolled my eyes at his statement but just gave him a warm smile, "Older brother, I asked our father for this, I need to study abroad for my future life."

Lily gave me a weird look and turned to father, "Father, why don't you let me go instead? It would be better for the family if I had more skills after all." She asked giving him a sweet smile all while insulting me.

I just stayed silent and waited for my father response, "Everyone, I didn't announce this to have you give your opinions I was just letting you know what would be happening in the future." He said giving my siblings hard stares.

Li Yu Mei looked at her husband and was confused but mostly angry that he was doing anything kind for that other woman's daughter. She had to hold her anger in while giving her loving husband a sweet smile, "Dear if you are set on sending Sara abroad, why don't you let Lily go as well that way at least Sara would have family around." She said while holding his hand.

Li Yu Mei's concern was sicking and I wanted to laugh at the fake kind mask she wore, I could instantly tell she just didn't want me to have something more than her own children. I looked at my father and gave him a look in hopes he remembered my words from earlier.

Christopher was touched by Li Yu Mei's words and wanted to agree with her to send Lily but with a slight turn, he saw the look in Sara's eyes. He remembers her words of asking to be away from the Wu family and had to toughen his heart when looking back at his love.

"My sweet, I would send Lily but this is a path for Sara, and she doesn't need any distractions. When Lily has a set plan in mind then I would be happy to help but for now, it's better for her to stay close to the family." He told Li Yu Mei with a slight squeeze to her hand.

Li Yu Mei's eye twitched when she heard husband's words but just gave him a smile and nodded her head in agreement. Lily was angry that her father was giving Sara anything, she hated the Sara today that was acting like she was real Wu family's daughter. Jake gave Sara a cold glare and made a promise in his heart to have talked with his younger sister.

I was super happy that my father was keeping his words and soon I won't have to deal with the Wu family any longer. I happen to see Momo outside a window who was doing a little bird dance and almost smiled. 'I guess I'm not the only one who's happy to being leaving this toxic environment.'I thought with a happy heart.

After dinner, everyone left with different things running through their minds, but the happiest person was me. As I was going back to my room I was stopped by my older brother, and from the look on his face, I could tell he was anything but happy.
