5 Chapter Four - Baseball

The school bell rings, indicating that school's done for today. I hurriedly put all my things in my bag and got out of the classroom.

"Brielle!" Gianna shouted at the end of the hallway and ran towards me. "Okay, spill it." I chuckled, knowing that when she calls me like that she has some tea to tell me.

"Remember Abe? The guy I was talking to you about." I nodded at her and continued walking. "He asked me out on a date." Gianna smiled widely at me. I gasped. "Please, tell me you said yes.." I looked at her, hoping she said yes.

She's been pining for Abe for over a year now. Abraham or Abe as we call him can be a jerk sometimes. But I saw him change as he's with Gianna but still he might come back to his old self after all.

"Of course, I said yes!" Gianna exclaimed. "Oh my god! I'm so happy for you!" I hugged her tightly. "But if he breaks your heart. Xyne and I will break his arm or maybe all of his 206 bones in his tiny body." I smiled sweetly at her. "I'll tell him that." Gianna chuckled.

We went to my locker to grab the book I need to finish reading by today and start my reaction paper.

"I already read that story. You want me to send you the summary?" Xyne grabbed the book out of my hand and leaned at the locker. "I haven't. Maybe you can send it to me also." Gianna chimed in. I chuckled. "Nah, I want to finish it. I'm already at Chapter 23. I only have seven chapters left. Gianna wants the summary." I snatched the book from him. "In your dreams, evil spawn." Xyne jokes. I gasped. "You watch Grey's?"

Xyne chuckled. "Yes, I do." He winked at me. "Oh, I forgot to tell you that Abe is going to drive me home." Gianna fiddled with her hands. I rolled my eyes at her and I started walking towards the exit.

"Abe!" Gianna squealed. "Hey, let me hold those for you." Abe grabbed Gianna's bag and books. "Let's go?"

"Bye, guys." Gianna winked at Xyne and me as she got into Abe's car. I gave Abe a death glare, warning him to never hurt my best friend. Abe gave me a nod as he got into his car and drove off.

"Cal's having a party tomorrow night. I was hoping you could come with me?" Xyne fiddled with his hand as he walked with me.

I stopped walking and sighed. "Xyne, I'm trying to pull my grades higher this semester, because you know, we're graduating and I need to be on top of my game. Plus I need to finish this paper today. I'm sorry but I think I'll pass this time." I gave him a small smile.

Xyne still managed to smile at me. "I understand. But at least, let me take you home." Xyne gave me his cutest puppy eyes. I chuckled and handed him my bag. "But only if you're going to treat me to Starbucks." I winked at him. "I'm joking. It's my turn to treat my best friend but I'm not paying for gas." I held up a finger at him. "Ouch, on the best friend." Xyne pouts at me. I nudged his side and rolled my eyes at him.

-----

"Thank you for the ride home." I smiled at Xyne as he handed me my bag. He winked at me. "Anytime. Oh and thank you for the Starbucks treat too." He smiled and I chuckled at him.

"Is there a chance that I can still change your mind and come with me to the party?" Xyne pouts and begged. I chuckled and squeezed his cheeks. "You're cute but as I said, I'm studying today and tomorrow tonight." I sighed. "If I finish my school work early, maybe I'll try to catch up. It's not a promise though." I smiled at him. "Okay then, I'll see you when I see you." Xyne winked at me. "Goodbye, Xyne. Drive safe." I gave him a small wave of goodbye and got inside the house.

"Hey, you're home early," Dad said while scrolling through his laptop. I smiled at him and walked inside his office. "Yeah, I only have three classes today that's why." I looked at his laptop. "What's that?"

Dad glared at me and closed his laptop. "None of your business." I pouted and chuckled. "Okay, dad. Is mom here?" I said as I walked outside Dad's office, looking around for my Mom, and ended up in the kitchen looking for a snack instead. "Uhhh, no. She went out."

"I bet she's with Aunt Diane." I chuckled as I grabbed a fruit cup from the fridge. "You guessed it right." Dad laughed.

Aunt Diane is my dad's youngest sister. She's just visiting us here in Cali before she goes back to Florida. Our relatives said that me and Aunt Diane's daughter Ally look alike. Well, it's true though.

"I'll be in my room, Dad, if you need me," I said as I walked upstairs. "Okay, sweetie," Dad answered from his office.

I kicked my shoes off and removed my flannel. I grabbed the book and read it right away so I can start with my reaction paper.

After a few minutes of trying to finish reading the 'boring book' with the annoying metal-like clunking from outside. I finally finished the book. "Finally!" I stretched my arms and got up to look outside from my window.

And there he is, hitting some balls with his baseball in his front yard with his brother Tanner, the one who's pitching, and his friend who looks a little Hispanic and muscled is the one who's catching, actually preventing the balls from hitting his beautiful black jeep.

I sighed and opened my window. I tried to put on a smile and try to show him that I'm not that annoyed.

Like, really, I'm not.

"Do you guys mind stopping for a few minutes, like taking a break or something? Because the noise when the ball hits the bat is quite distracting. I'm trying to finish a paper that I need to pass by tomorrow." I tried to be as polite as possible but I'm just really frustrated now.

Tanner leaned on Tyler's friend. I assume he whispered something to him enough to make the three giggle. "So? Are you guys taking a break?"

"We are." The friend waved at me and chuckled. "Thank you!" I smiled at the friend and rolled my eyes at Tyler.

I walked to my desk and started to write my reaction paper before I completely forgot the story I just read.

-----

I finally finished writing my reaction paper. I looked at the time.

8:36 pm

"Why does it feel like time moves so slow today?" I groaned as I grabbed my guitar beside my table and played some chords. When I saw a laser trying to catch my attention.

I looked outside my window and saw him.

Nice, it's him again.

I rolled my eyes at him and mouths 'what?'

He motioned me to open up my window. I sighed and did as he said. "I never got to tell you my name. I'm Tyler by the way."

I want to tell him 'I know who you are.' but I can't do that, right? Or can I?

Tyler smiled sweetly at me. His dimples showed in his stubbly face.

Does he have dimples?! HE HAS FREAKING DIMPLES!!

I tried to hold back my smile. "Nice to meet you, Tyler the creep. I'm Brielle." I gave him a small smile. "Once again, I'm not a creep." He rolled his eyes at me. "Whatever, creep." I joked.

"The sky's pretty clear tonight. You can see the stars from here." He looked outside his window. I nodded at him.

"They're so beautiful." He said as he looked at me. He quickly looked away when I caught him but I shrugged it off.

It doesn't mean anything right?

"Yep, you know what? To be honest, I don't know much about stars. I don't even know how to identify constellations. I just admire them. Because, you know, stars may be far away from each other but they shine in their own colors and ways. Like us, we shine in our own way." I looked at the stars, smiling at them. "I don't know how to identify constellations either," Tyler admitted. I rolled my eyes at him and laughed.

There was an awkward silence building up between the two of us and thankfully he decided to pop the bubble.

"You go to UCI right?" Tyler questioned and I nodded at him. "Yeah, I do. So, I guess you go there too." I placed my laptop on my chair and sat on my desk. Tyler nodded. " Yup and correction. I went there." He chuckled.

I frowned at him. "What do you mean went there?"

"I went there for college and thanks to my athletic abilities I'm now a baseball player." He smiled at me. "So, you're a baseball player, that explains earlier. My Dad is a big fan of the LA Dodgers."

"He is? Some of the players are my close friends." I nodded at him. "If my Dad ever found out that you know some of the players you'll be annoyed at him."

He frowned at me. "No one is annoying when it comes to baseball. I think we might even become buddies when it comes to baseball." I hummed and smirked at him. "Oh, just wait and see when he finds out."

I sighed and smiled at him. "Well, it was nice to chat with you and know your name, creep."

Even though I already know your name before you even tell me.

"But I got to go to bed early. Bye, Tyler the creep." I hopped off my desk and got ready to close the curtains. "Good night, Brielle." Tyler winked at me, his dimples showing before I closed the curtains.

And once again, I went to bed with a smile on my face, not thinking anything of it.

-----

Tyler's POV

"It's so nice to finally have you on the team, man," Ryan said as he caught the ball. Ryan has always been my best friend. We went to high school and college together and obviously got into some trouble together. He's also a baseball player as you can tell but, he's not just a baseball player, he's lowkey obsessed with gyming too.

"We're not rivals anymore." I chuckled and hit the ball that Tanner just threw at me while Ryan caught the ball right on time. "No offense, Ty, but I'm surprised you got in after taking a break for 2 years because of… you know, your break up with Aly." Tanner gave me a please-don't-kill-me look and threw a ball at me again, continuing our practice.

I shrugged. "Well, what is past, is past. Aly moved on and so did I. In fact, I'm kind of crushing on someone." Tanner looked at me with his shocked face. "I think I know who your crush is!" Tanner exclaimed. I sighed and looked down, trying to hide the growing smile on my face. "Shut up and just throw me the ball."

"Finally! My best friend's in love again!" Ryan cheered. "Oh, man. Quit it! It's just a crush. It's nothing serious." I groaned and hit the ball harder than usual, making a metal-like clunking every time the ball hit the bat.

And then, I saw Brielle glaring at us from her window.

"Do you guys mind stopping for a few minutes, like taking a break or something? Because the noise when the ball hits the bat is quite distracting. I'm trying to finish a paper that I need to pass by tomorrow."? Brielle vented out. I can already tell that the sound annoys the hell out of her.

Tanner leans to Ryan whispering something to him but still making sure I can hear what he's telling him.

"That's her."

Yes, it's her.

I facepalmed myself, physically. As the two giggled so I joined in to hide the blush tinting my cheeks.

"So? Are you guys taking a break?"

"We are." Ryan waved at her and chuckled. "Thank you!" Brielle gives Ryan a smile and rolls her eyes at me as she shut her windows down.

"You go, brother!" Ryan patted my shoulder, feeling like a proud father, making Tanner laugh.

"Oh… Shut up!" I gave them a lopsided grin before going inside my house.
