4 Finally Free!

After he got discharged, he had a hard time taking a cab as he was still wearing a hospital dress. Many drivers really took him as a fool just like the existence said, but finally, after an hour of waiting, he got one.

Then, he remembered something important. He was in a thought that something was off today. Something was lacking. He then asked on his mind, 'Why do it seems like bad luck is absent today? Hmm... Maybe, it will come again tomorrow.'

'Since yesterday, it seemed to be the other way around. I unintentionally helped someone and even got a reward today. What an unexpected events. It seemed like I got lucky? Eh? Lady luck might have noticed me already and felt a pity for me.' His lips subconsciously turned to his usual wry smile. 'You wish', was plastered on his face.

But he immersed himself into a deep thought, thinking for possible reasons as it seemed too unusual. 'Maybe, it was because of this existence? Hmm... possibly.'

["Oh, you can still remember about me? You're not too stupid as you figured it out but you're still stupid talking to your mind about me when you can directly ask."] The voice said in a very sarcastic tone.

He was surprised. "Ahh... So it was really you?"

["Tsk. My stored luck helped to get rid of the bad luck lingering in your body."]

He then straightened his posture as he felt conscious by the way the driver eyed him.

But he can't help but ask again as this question was bothering him since the existence appeared.

"What are you? A soul?" He asked curiously. It was better for him to know what existence really was on his mind. As thinking that it was a human soul gave him goosebumps. Better clarify than scarring one's self.

["I am actually a system. Let's just say that I am a thing made by a powerful man to help some people."]

Finn felt a little relieved.

"So you're not a soul?" It was better to double check it. To make him feel even better.

["One word is enough for a wise man. Starting from now, you must practice to stop being stupid."]

He was answered indirectly again. What a sly so called 'system'.

--

When he arrived at his room. He immediately took a bath and change to better clothes.

He went to the landlord and paid the last month, this month and one month advance rent.

Today he felt that everything was now on his grasp. There was no army of rats who would furiously murder his clothes to pieces, no sudden leakage from the pipes and when he got outside there was no bird poop fallen on his head. He was not greeted by a sudden rain or a dark sky but by a very bright sun, a good weather.

He felt like crying. He wanted to shout that he was already free. He unconsciously spread his arms in the middle of the road. He just felt like doing so. It was an outburst of feelings, as he was on a moment where he saw a different color of life aside from black and white.

When his bad luck was still there, he would never do this even to this lonely street as a car could suddenly appear out of nowhere because of his bad luck.

But now, it was already minutes yet there was none. His eyes lit up and he closed it. In his mind he was hoping there was no car to come to prove that he was free. To assure himself that he was really free.

10minutes...

20 minutes...

30 minutes...

But there was really none showing.

1 hour...

Tears began dripping out of his eyes while his lips formed into a wide smile. He looked like a fool who wanted to get bumped in the lonely street which was less visited by cars.

'I'm free.'

That was the only thing on his mind. The only words repeating in his mind as he unconsciously sat in the middle of the lonely road.

After more than a decade of enduring, suffering and hoping of when it would end, it finally ended.

I'm free.

At last.

He never felt too safe and secure. Before, he had to be careful and anxious at all times as anything could possibly happen.

He never imagined that this moment would really come. After so many years he never felt so relaxed and calm. Most importantly he felt like he became normal once again. A normal person and could live a normal life.

["Okay, I knew about all you've been through but we can't proceed if we will only stay here. You have to start moving. I don't like lazy kiddos."]

"Fine, but first I have to say thank you. Thank you very much."

["Enough of that. Hey kid. Can't you hear yourself?"]

"Huh? What do you mean?"

["What a merciless host! Can't you hear your stomach complaining?! Now it needs to have a sumptuous meal!"]

He chuckled. "Old man, why can't you just say it simply that I need to celebrate! Ah, you really are shy!"

["Shut up kid. This old man is just bothered."]

He just laughed it out and simply did what the old man had suggested. Besides, this good news, really called for a celebration!

With that, he went to the fast food chain where he was 'oh so thankful' when he could eat there once a month.

He would surely enjoy this meal since he was only treating himself once in a blue moon.

Two orders of affordable rice and steaks, big size burgers and two kinds of desserts and a huge bottle of cola. Everything just seemed so good to him.

["Hey kid. Is it delicious?"]

He subconsciously nodded and said. "Of course, it's good."

["Idiot. Mind your actions, a normal person won't act like that when he was alone. Use mouth to eat. Use your mind to speak. It is that simple. People are now looking at you, weirdo."]

"I don't care." He smiled while tears were blurring his eyes.

For once he didn't want to care.

As for once in his life, he never felt so normal and free. This time, he never needed to be so wary of the things surrounding him. Before, he was restless. He needed to be overly cautious when on the road as he was so prone to danger, afraid that truck-san might suddenly end his life on a whim. He needed to endure all the bullies that were picking on him, he needed be wary of any animals around, else he likely be bitten...

There were a lot of things he need to be afraid of and never did he imagined that the time would come that everything would become normal. Never had he thought he would finally experience peace. There was a lot of never as it didn't seemed possible for him but it was really true, the heaven didn't close all its exits. Finally, his life long wish was granted.

["I understand. The food must be very delicious for you to burst out in tears."] The system said while watching his host eating while wiping his eyes once in a while.

Although he said he didn't care, but after finishing his food and finding out people's gazes locked on him, he speedily rushed out of the food place while his head a little bowed down.

The system just chose not to tease him else his young host would be embarrassed to death.

--

"Really, thank you for this day old man. Thank you for giving me a chance to start anew."

["My ears are already hurting after hearing the same words kid. Try to be creative. It would be much better for you to shut your mouth and sleep."]

"Our old man is really shy when receiving compliments~" Then he yawned. His eyes were getting heavy at the moment.

["You don't have to be so thankful as I am responsible to make you better. Besides, bad luck was an enemy of mine. It's just like hitting two birds with one stone. Helping you at the same time destroying the enemy."]

"Did you said something old man? Sorry but I am quite sleepy now."

["Nothing, I don't like talking to a blockhead anyway."]

"Okay, I have to sleep first. It's been a long day for me."

He said and damped himself on his old bed while a rare genuine smile reaching his ears was plastered on his face.

["Alright, sleep tight kid."]

--

What greeted him the next day was a stern and strict system. After a nice breakfast, followed a bombardment of informations he hoped he could digest.

["Now I will explain to you how the system works, listen carefully, don't you dare interrupt me."]

From its voice alone, he could imagine it having a pair of eyes emitting a threatening look.

There, he never dared to open his mouth, not that he was threatened, but he was afraid the system would not continue his explanation.

["I am a luck system so I am purely based on luck. In order to make the most of my capabilities, you have to gather Luck points, 1 luck equals to 1 stat point. And in order to gather luck, you have to please people. Make them smile, grateful, happy or love you. But the last one isn't necessary, it depends on you how you gather luck. The luck points you receive will depend on what level did you please them."]

"Where do this luck points came from?" Though he already had the idea but he still asked as he was not sure.

["From them, of course. I can absorb the luck they willingly give and pass the decision to where you want to allocate it."]

"Can I see that status screen again?" Compared to earlier, he was a bit excited to see it now. A bit might be an understatement as his lips were already pressed together and his eyes looked so expectant.

["Sure thing. You can also say 'STATS' and it will automatically appear. Go try it kid."]

Without further ado, he followed as the system said.

"Stats." He said with high spirit.

Name: ???

Comment: A naive noob nobody!

["Oh, don't mind about the comment. It was already programmed. Already programmed."]

It tried to sound innocent but it was like stopping its laughs from escaping out of its mouth.

Such a shameless liar!
