10 Chapter 10 - Detective's testimony

WITNESS'S TESTIMONY 1 - DETECTIVE FILLIP DUNBASS (OVERVIEW OF THE CRIME)

"Yesterday, to be exact, in the mornig around 10, we got a call from...well…defense lawyer over there (gesturing at me) reporting a murder. When we got to the crime scene, there were already two witnesses and a defendant. We arrested Mr.Anthony because we...police found his finger prints on the murder weapon and missing gold-star in his pocket.Moreover he was the only one who was with victim and no one could confirm his whereabouts of that night. We also have an eye witness that saw defendant keenly arguing with the victim.All these facts are proving that he is THE KILLER, Your honor"

"Hmmm.....so you are the one who reported the crime, Mr.Morals?"

"Yes Your Honor. Dev…I mean victim, Miss Love and I were very close friends. I was at her apartment because she invited me over."

"I see.You can now strart your cross-examination, Mr.Morals..."

All right. I will have to poke him.

CROSS-EXAMINATION 1

"You said that police found defendan'ts finger prints and gold-star in his pocket?"

"Yeah.That's right.That's what I just said."

"Tell me Detective DU-NASS, were prints his left hand's or right's?"

"They were his left finger prints...."

"And where did you say you found the star?"

"In his pocket. In the right pocket of his jacket, precisely."

"Did you also find his prints on it?"

"Yesss."He said it like he was waiting for me to ask him.

"Yes. We also found his finger prints on the star.They were also from his left hand."

"Okay.Thank you for your coorperaiton Detective… Your Honor, the defesne has no further quesion for the witness. However, the defense would like Detective Dunbass to testify about the crime scene when he found the body."

"All right Detective Dunbass. Can you give what defense just asked?"

"Right away...Your Honor."

WITNESS'S TESTIMONY 2 - DETECTIVE FILLIP DUNBASS (WHEN I FOUND THE BODY)

"When we found Miss Love's body, it was leaning against the bottom of the bedside. The murder weapon, the staute was found on the make-up table. The victim died from a blow in the back of her head. The wound wasn't very life-threating if you look from the outside but it caused fatal internal-brainal-coagulation which resulted in her death. The estimated time of death was around 2:30 am Your Honor.We also found some kind of thorns mixed with soil particles on victim's right fingers. Here is victim's autopsy, murder weapon, gold star and photos of a first-look-see of the crime scene after we secured it."

So....those dirt/particles were soil.....?I wonder where did those come from?

With that Detective presented the evidences to the court.

I took a look at those.The autopsy says

"Victim's Name: Devvy Love

Cause of Death: Internal blood coagulation in brain area.Sever wound but not an instant death.

ETD : Around 2:30a.m."

Poor Devvy she must have been in agnoy for quite a time.And about those crime photos, I was the one to have that so-called first look and yet I can't find the weired difference about them. I swear something is off but I couldn't recall what that is. Maybe Daisy will notice....Nahhh...that's very unlikely...she was a mess when we found the body.

"Mr.Morals, is something wrong? Your expressions look like you are thinking about what you are gonna eat for breakfast tomorrow."

"Uhh...no...Your Honor...no..."I blushed.

"Well then.Your cross-examination."

CROSS EXAMINATION 2

"Is that all? Is that all you need to describe about the crime scene detective?"

I asked.

"Pretty much, yeah." "What? You are gonna trick me into spilling some important information…again? Then you are sadly mistaken, EVIL LAWYER."

He is not really dropping that name.Is he?

"I am not witholding anything now.This is all the info we've gathered.I fight for JUSTICE pal. I wouldn't do anything to disgrace JUSTICE.I FIGHT IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE..."

He took out his badge and held it out to show the court as he shouted out the "JUSTICE" part loud.

"I am just making sure that you are not forgetting anything Detective..."

"No I am not."

"I guess....Anyway did you find anything particular near make-up table?"

"Aside from the murder weapon with blood traces on it, I'd say no. Nothing related to the case was found."

"What about the make-up box? If my memories serve, it seemed like someone had used it recently."

"SO?"

"So were you able to identify who used it?"

Then Mr.Payaya who had been silent the whole time has spoken.

"I understand that the victim is your best friend and you grew up together and la la la...but did her tragic death drive you INSANE Mr.Morals? She was a popular female young idol. It is only natural that she would use her make-up box occassionally. And last night could be one of those."

"But my client said that the victim didn't use her make-up box the whole time they were argu.....talking."

"Your client? Your client who is sitting in that defendant chair being held accountable for this trial? I thought you would put up a bit of a show today.But Dora the explorer is more interesting than what you are presenting now Mr.Morals."

"I agreed."

It was the judge.

"What difference would it make anyway? With or without make-up? What are you building it into Mr.Morals? Please enlighten the court."

That's Payaya for you. Like a determined jungle cat, he lays low and waits for the perfect oppoturnity to take down the opponent. I could hear giggles behind me. Even Detective DUMBASS is laughing at me right now.I realized that I made a wrong move. I adjusted my posture back and asked

"Ahemm.....Could you tell me more about the soil particles Detective?"

"That I can, pal."

"As I said earlier we found soil particles on victim's right fingers along with some thorns.We also found those particles on the floor near the big window mixed with traces of blood.Before you ask, yes. Those blood belong to victim and soil particles on the floor and on her fingers matched.We have a test result from the lab.At first we thought the victim's body was moved after it was killed but the amount of blood on the floor and no apparent trail hadn't back up that assumption.So our guess is victim must have moved around before she took her last breath."

True. The autopsy says it wasn't an instant death. So Devvy must have moved around a little bit. But why the window? It was closed loosely and she wouldn't have the strength to even do that.

"Any idea where the thorns came from Detective?"

"Objection! "

It was from the prosecuiton.

"The defense is asking irrelevant question your Honor.The victim died from a blow in the head. Those thorns and particles could be from something else prior that night."

"Objection denied.Mr.Payaya, Mr.Morals may have a point about those thorns.And they were not just on victim's finger, they were also on the floor."

YESSSS.I almost screamed out loud.

Why is Mr.Payaya so freaky about the thorns? Maybe he already figured out about them and didn't want me to know?

Right then Detective continue his testimony.

"I was getting to that buddy.Give me some time."

"As for the thorns, we don't know where they came from. We looked for possible sources of in that room but nothing close to thorns had been discovered in that apartment.Our theory right now is victim must have gotten those thorns from her last night concert or after party.Anyway there weren't so much of those dirt. Just barely enough to notice. I don't know why you think this is important man..."

"That's just your deduction Detective. Those particles could be from the killer...."

"You mean your client?"

Payaya again.

"NO. Mr.Payaya. The REAL KILLER. Need I remind you that my client is ALLEGEDLY accussed of the murder? The verdict has't been made and therefore you can't call him the killer yet. And more importantly why are you so certain that those particles are irrelevant to the case?"

TAKE THAT Payaya.

"And why are you so certain that they are relevant to the case Mr.Morals?" He countered back without a pasue.

"That's not fair.I asked you first......"

"This is not a phone call with your high school sweetheart Mr.Morals.You can't pull the "I asked you first card” And you were the one who brought up the soil theory.Well do you have anything which might prove that those soil particles are related to the case?"

"Welllllll.........."

"Tsk tsk I guess not. It's a two-way street Mr.Morals.Since you can't present anything to prove your point the other way is also possible."

"Mr.Payaya is right.This is a courtroom Mr.Morals. Evidence is everything.And also I am missing my grandaughter's dance contest at her school for this trial. So can you at least make it worth bailing?"

"Ahhh....Yes. Your Honor."

Damn Payaya did come prepared this time.I was throwing air daggers and he caught them hand-on.

I should stop pressing.I got what I wanted anyway.

"Ahemm....The defense has no further question for the witness Your Honor."

"I see.Mr.Payaya.Your next witness"

"Yeah Your Honor. The prosecution would like to call Miss Daisy Blossom who witnessed the heated situation between defendant and victim right before the crime, to the stand. Will Miss Blossom take the stand please?"

Here she comes. Daisy, please give me ammo so that I can fire back that frog-faced jerk.
