"Would you love him, if he took away all that which reminded you of the living?" "I don't know." Chapter Seventy_Five: The Runaway List

"I am dead... He took me back to earth and...I am dead James." I whispered as I fell to my knees and began to cry. Realising that there was no other place to call home anymore.

Silence filled the room as James slipped down the wall and watched her cries quiet down to a snuffle. He didn't want to believe what she had just said with his whole heart. Didn't want to tell her that she had been deceived because he had seen that the darkness operates by telling the truth.

Instead of withholding it for one's emotions or feelings.

The fact that he had been there with her too and hadn't fought with her to move on with her life showed James that the damn King really cared about her and that the chances of them being able to attempt to be together was becoming slimmer at every waking moment.

"Who…whose comforting your mother?" he asked carefully. Feeling utterly defeated. "Fish lips." She groaned. "You mean Henry," I said with a chuckle. "Whatever." She chuckled.

"At least you can joke about it," he said as he stood up and went to sit next to her. When he was comfortable, he watched her place her head on his shoulder. Taking a deep breath, he wrapped his arms around her and let her take in everything that she needed from him.

"It hurt like a motherfucker. I had been feeling so homesick today and he decided to just take me there. But seeing that coffin and my mom trying too hard not to fall apart in front of everyone was even more painful. A part of me had hoped that sooner or later I would return home and at least see her.

Maybe feel her hold me and tell me everything is okay. That she forgave me but we both just didn't get the chance to get to that point. I needed to save her, even if it meant my very heart having to stop beating.

"You were right though." She whispered. "About what?"

"Having to stop being so stubborn about everything. That I needed to learn how to not always be so hard and give certain things a chance. Had I listened then maybe none of this wouldn't have had to happen?" I confessed. "That's your regret?"

"My biggest regret is not having just listened to her and fighting her like this. It would have saved us from the heartache and stuff. You could have gone to your boyfriend's house and I would have been trying to get to know fish lips." She chuckled. "Yeah, that is true but I also would have been getting beaten by my father more and I would have most probably run away," I whispered.

"Ah…I remember that. The runaway list. You were planning to do that after the live performance." She said as she recalled the talk we had had. "Were you really going to do it?" she asked after a moment.

I took that moment to allow myself to wonder. To dive deeper into my emotions and think if this was what I really wanted in my life. Or well, in the past since he was stuck here. "Yeah, I really would have disappeared without a trace. Probably wouldn't have told you cause my family would have hunted you with every fibre of their being so that you would tell them where I went.

Wouldn't have been in my favorite places nor would I have been in his favorite places. Yet I know we would have ended up in a small town and lived as though the two most boring guys in the world. We would have done something, just to live and love freely." He confessed.

"I wouldn't have seen my best friend again huh?" she asked as a tear escaped her one eye. Quickly wiping it away, I looked into her eyes and nodded. Knowing that even though I could have lied and said no she would have. It wouldn't have been the truth. She wouldn't have seen me again 'cause I would have wanted to keep her safe.

"I probably would have stalked you on social media though," he teased. "And acted, in fact, been one of those die-hard fans. Just so I can at least watch you become what you always aspired to be. Just so I can continue to see that beautiful smile of yours."

"But it wouldn't have been the same, cause I still would have lost my best, best, friend." She whispered as tears fell. "I know, love, I know."
