7 Chapter 6: Too Much For The First Day

The program was started with a pretty boring speech by the school staffs and former Math Club President whom gave his farewell words, encouragement, and acknowledgement to the next future leaders. Upon his speech, I noticed him taking quick glances towards Ryle who, at the moment, is scrolling through his phone. He looked quite bored, just like me, so he decided to play a game. After all the speeches an instruction is given to all the students.

"Everyone, place your right thumb on the thumprint scanner on your right." said the dean, Mr. Rodriguez.

As I turned my gaze to my right, I noticed a small black pad which I didn't really noticed when I settled down earlier. I fixed my right thumb on the black pad and after about two seconds a "Beep" is heard and a red color light flickered. I turned my head towards Ryle and saw a flickering red light on his black pad too. As I turned my head at my right, where one of my classmate, Abigail, is sitting I saw a green light on the black pad and its not flickering. Abigail noticed my confused gaze and looked at me with a smile.

"Congrats" she said shyly.

"Now, to those whom got a red light, congratulations and welcome to the Math club." said Mister Luis who is directly looking at our direction. And just like that the program was ended.

I walked straight pass the noisy crowd and headed to the gate where Nana Lilian and Kuya Jerry, my driver is waiting. They waved me hello and I gave them a smile. When I reached them, Nana gave me a confused look and said,

"So much for the first day?"

"Oh actually Nana, It's 'TOO MUCH FOR THE FIRST DAY' " I said with a bitter smile on my face. But trying to think of it, I am wondering what kind of hellish training my school offers. I mean who conducts a hard and mind blowing math qualification test on the first day?!

When we reached home, Nana asked me what I want to eat for dinner and I simply told her to fry some chicken and the rest is up to her. I head straight to my room to change clothes. This time I wore a floral dress, one Mom brought from Hawaii. She loves buying me stuffs and when she buys them, she will buy whole lot of them. After dressing up, I went to my study table and turned my MacBook on. After a minute, I received a call notification from Mom.

"Hi baby! How's your first day?" Mom said excitedly. Dad is on his left scrolling in his phone. When she heard Mom spoke excitedly she stopped and put down his phone and smiled at me.

"Hi princess, I miss you!" said Dad with a hint of sadness in his eyes.

"Hi Mom, Hi Dad!" I answered. The two of them looked real serious and strict without a smile in their faces but whenever they talk to me they sounded like adorable kids.

"First day is... great" I said with a half- smile. They noticed my expression and looked at each other. After a minute Dad finally speak up.

"Princess, What's the matter? Don't you like First Bright Academy?" Dad said and frowned. "I really like the school. I just have a lot in my mind." I smiled and Dad is a bit relieved. But Mom kept her composure.

"So, Mind telling us what you did earlier?" Mom said still smiling excitedly.

"Wait, Do you guys knew that there is a math club qualification test earlier?" I asked.

" Yes" They said in unison. I really want to shout at them for not telling me but I guess its fine. Maybe they are testing my intelligence too.

"How is it? Are you the top scorer?" Dad asked calmly

"Honey, you know they are going to annoince that after two days, you know better!" Mom glanced at Dad sharply. Dad just smiled and winked at Mom. While they are chattering I noticed that they are wearing sweaters and gloves. I wonder what country they are now.

"Where are guys at?" I asked

"We're in Paris!" Mom exclaimed.

"We really wish you're here, Princess" Dad frowned.

" It's fine. Mom can you buy me a new bag? I heard there is a limited edition..." before I could finish, Mom cut in.

"Oh yeah! I already got that and I also bought you some shoes, dress, bags, make-up, and oh books, too." We were video calling for two hours until Mom felt sleepy. It was already 6:30 when Nana Lilian called out for dinner. Afterwards, I fell asleep.

Around 10 pm, a notification wake me up from sleep. I picked up my phone and see what is up.

"You have a new friend request from..." I pressed the bar and was directed to the page.

"...Ryle Smith" I pressed confirm and get back to sleep.
