Waiting patiently

Jane chuckled at Selina's naivety. "I know Zane hasn't been direct with you. Anyway, he means I will live here because I'm carrying his child," she pointed at her flat belly.

Jane was excited to share the news with Selina, who seemed shocked and low-spirited. She found amusement in the latter upset and shattered expression.

Hearing Jane's announcement, Selina was speechless and shocked for a short time as though she misheard her. "Is J-Jane pregnant?" She stuttered in disbelief; perhaps they were playing a prank on her.

Seeing Zane's stern expression and knowing him to be a person serious with each word he said, It now became a reality to Selina about this current situation. Her heart started aching as if it was set on flames.

"Jane is pregnant with my child," Zane answered, and his voice didn't leak regret or shame. With his icy eyes and his lips curled up to the corner a little at her, he continued, "This shouldn't be a problem for you, as long as my long-awaited wish has been fulfilled."

"How could you speak that way? Why make me feel guilty of something I could have too?" She was broken by his ruthless answer.

She didn't believe Zane would speak to her that way and make her feel like a fruitless woman when they both knew he was the reason there was a delay of a child in their marriage.

Zane took a step closer to her. "What can I do if Jane has my child? I can't ask her to get rid of my first unborn child in her tummy." He wasn't ready to have a kid, but he couldn't ask the woman he loved to get rid of their unborn child when he was ready to take up the responsibility.

"You told me you aren't ready to have a child, and I have been waiting patiently. Despite that, you went to impregnate her? Does my patience mean nothing?" She asked, her voice choking, and her eyes becoming misty while she was feeling excruciating pain in her chest, struggling to control the sad emotions overshadowing her.

However, it was futile, and she let the pain take over her. It was a great weight pain of betrayal that engulfed her heart she had long endured and wished it wouldn't last, but that wish wouldn't come true.

Her worst nightmare had finally come true. A nightmare for another woman to give birth to her husband's child. She listened to him in the past four years of their marriage not to conceive because she thought it was too early for her to have a child at the age of 20 back then. Now, she was 24, she believed she had learned a few things about life and was ready to have her child.

Though it seemed pointless to share her eager pregnancy news with him, he seemed content in choosing Jane over again, Selina thought.

"Why make a fuss, Selina? I'm 28, and having a child at this age isn't wrong. It's no big deal if Jane births this child. Just be a good wife and look after Jane. I believe your attention would make a great impact on her child growing up since you are a woman," Zane stated ruthlessly. He didn't feel moved by her choked voice or her shattered expression.

He did like how she felt this way. Why should he care about her feelings when he didn't have a slight love and sympathy for her? Seeing her in this sad way made his grudges a little less.

"That's never going to happen in this home! Take her somewhere else and raise the child together, I don't care!"

"On whose order would she listen to? This is my mansion, so Jane isn't going anywhere." Zane retorted firmly to her words. He couldn't believe she was being insolent in his presence. His thick dark eyebrows narrowed at her, giving him a deadly look.

"Don't forget this mansion was gifted to us by my grandfather-in-law on our wedding day, and that makes my order stand for her to listen, else I would drag her out myself," Selina said assertively and didn't mind Zane's threatening gaze. She knew it would be troublesome and insulting to her if Jane went through her pregnancy in her home.

She loves Zane, and though their marriage might mean nothing to him, it means a lot to her for such a filthy person like Jane to step into her marital home and the same home given to her by Jane's grandfather, whom she respected the most.

"Baby, please don't let her send me away. She is envious she couldn't conceive a child for you." Jane snapped in softly, sounding like an innocent lady.

The blood in Selina's body started to boil when she heard Jane call her infertile. "I'm not infertile! Do not to mention that word about me again otherwise I would shut that stinky mouth forever!" She warned. Her fierce eyes exposed a warning to Jane not to push her hard, otherwise she would lose it.

Jane kept shut with her gaze buried. She saw Selina was now furious like an angry bull, and it would be drastic if the angry lady's horn touched her body.

"Jane has to leave right away,"

"Like I said, she will stay here until she gives birth to my child,"

Zane didn't wait for a reply from her and took Jane's hand, taking her to the guest room inside the spacious mansion.

"What were you thinking, Selina? Do you think he would listen to you?" She muttered as she felt disappointed in herself for trying to stop a disastrous thing from happening in her marriage when Zane didn't care.

She lifted her head, trying to suppress the tears from pouring out while her heart wrenched bitterly. Her grip was so tight on the plate that contained the cookies as if she wanted to crunched the porcelain plate with her slender hands.
