Chapter 48: Our Promise

A short while passed when Lin JinYan finally regained rationality and looked up at Su Ning who was still holding him.

"NingNing, I'm sorry. I was wrong," Lin JinYan said tearfully.

"JinYan-ge, we don't have to talk about this right now. Just get better first okay," Su Ning murmured while patting Lin JinYan's back.

"No..No.. If we don't talk about this now. I'm afraid you'll change your mind and leave me," Lin JinYan insisted.

"JinYan-ge...I alre" Su Ning began but was cut off by Lin JinYan.

"NingNing, please listen to me first, okay" Lin JinYan anxiously spoke.

"I'm really sorry. I know what I did wrong. I shouldn't have acted that way without thinking how you would feel."

"I know you don't like it when other people get hurt because of you. I'm sorry." (Lin JinYan)

"JinYan-ge...it's alright now. Don't cry anymore," Su Ning coaxed as she wiped the tears from his face.

"We both grew up differently and I realized it's also wrong of me to push my values on you. Eventually, you will make decisions I don't agree with and so will I. We are both different people after all. But..no matter what, I think we will be able to talk things through. We are best friends and we won't break up that easily," Su Ning explained softly.

"Really?" Lin JinYan asked expectantly.

"Yeah. I just..I just wish you could promise me that before you make any big decision that concerns me, to talk to me about it first. Can you do that?" she requested.

"En, I promise!" Lin JinYan nodded so vigorously that Su Ning laughed.

"Okay you should lie down for a bit. I'll tell Assistant Mu to bring you some porridge." (Su Ning)

"Can you eat with me?" (Lin JinYan)

"Uhm..Sure." Su Ning answered hesitantly as she remembered Lin Feng's invitation to have dinner together.

The two friends ate a light dinner and chatted happily. Both had missed each other this past week and before they knew it, it was already a quarter to 10pm. Just as Su Ning was about to leave, Lin JinYan's voice sounded from the bed.

"NingNing, you won't ever leave me right? We will always be best friends right? Lin JinYan asked apprehensively.

"En." Su Ning readily answered.

"You promise?" (Lin JinYan)

"Mm, I promise." Seeing Su Ning answer resolutely, Lin JinYan finally felt at ease.

'I won't leave you since you will leave me first.' she thought.

In another continent, Gu YuChen was waiting for Su Ning's response to his texts. Xiao Ni and Xiao San whom he had sent to guard Su Ning and Lin JinYan had reported their odd behavior this past week. It appeared Su Ning had been avoiding Lin JinYan which was not her character so a big argument must have occured. The last update he received was that the latter had fallen ill. Then early in the afternoon, he received a call that Assistant Mu had picked up Su Ning from their M Academy apartment.

In fact, Gu YuChen preferred that Su Ning not step into the Lin Mansion. He knew of the animosity between Lin JinYan and the oldest son, Lin Feng, and he worries that Su Ning will become a pawn in their family feud. However, it seems he was a step too late seeing he has not heard back from Su Ning till now.

'I need to hurry up and get stronger,' thought Gu YuChen 'Only then could I protect what is precious to me.'

It was already around 11pm in C Country before Su Ning finally remembered to respond to Gu YuChen's text. She thought it would be better to text instead of calling Gu YuChen since it was 4pm in the afternoon in the UK. 'He must be in class right now.'

[NingNing_Star]: JinYan-ge was sick with a fever. I've just come back from the Lin Mansion.

Unexpectedly, Gu YuChen responded in a few minutes.

[NingNing_Star]: Mm. We just had a disagreement but everything is fine now.

[YuChen_Fox]: Did you meet Lin Feng?

[NingNing_Star]: En. For a bit.

[YuChen_Fox]: NingNing, it would be better if you don't get close to him.

[NingNing_Star]: I understand. I also feel the same.
