2 Chapter 2: Meeting Young Master Gu

In the hospital ward, Qin Lan was staring at Su Ning with teary eyes. Her little NingNings heart had already stopped beating for 7 minutes. It was a miracle when she opened her eyes again. Qin Lan felt so thankful to the heavens and she made a note to visit the temple with offerings during the weekend.

"Ma, my face will melt if you continue looking at me like that." said Su Ning. "Mom just thinks you are so beautiful that she cannot help looking at you." replied her father, Su Kun as he handed her a plate of peeled apples. "Yes. Yes. That's right." answered Qin Lan. She cannot help but feel her little NingNing's temperament has changed since regaining consciousness. Maybe it is also due to NingNing's selective amnesia that the doctors mentioned may be a sequelae of the operation. Several days have passed since then and her daughter has become more mature and calm. She obediently eats her fruits and nutritional soups. There has been no complaints of any aches and pains or even requests for new toys. Qin Lan remembers that before they would need to coax NingNing whenever it comes to hospital visits and eating bland foods. NingNing even asked when she can go back to school. As her mother, Qin Lan somehow feels happy but a bit sad in her heart that her daughter has grown up.

After a week in the hospital, without any further complications. The doctor in charge finally agreed to let Su Ning be discharged tomorrow. Although she will need to be on medications for the rest of her life, it is still better than being dead. Su Ning was happy, as long as she doesn't intend to do strenuous physical activities like extreme martial arts or competition sports she can live normally. Su Ning is actually very lazy, she had previously lived 29 years of minimal physical activity. Luckily, her previous body didn't have the predisposition for weight gain. Now she can only think about adapting to this body and planning her new life.

This time she intends to live more comfortably. She must choose decisions that result in the maximum benefit for the least amount of effort. Plus judging by this body's appearance, even though she is only 12 years old now, she can tell that her face will turn out to be a beauty in the future. In modern society, beauty is also a talent! Of course, she also has to study to make sure she gets into a good school but she doesn't intend to go into law or medicine. A job that pays well but does not require much overtime is best. Right now, she plans to study software engineering in university.

However before she could get lost in future planning, there was a knock on the door. She saw Mother Qin and Father Su bow respectfully to the visitor, a young lad in his teens. The boy was Young Master Gu YuChen, his family employs Mother Qin as a housekeeper while Father Su works in the secretarial department of Gu Corporation Ltd. Gu YuChen is only 14 years old this year but he is strikingly good looking and already possesses a noble aura of a future president. His gaze appeared sharp as he motioned the two elders to take a seat and offered his greetings. He had his servants bring in several expensive gift baskets to Mother Qin's chagrin.

Observing such an exchange, Su Ning could tell that Gu YuChen looks kindly at Mother Qin as sort of a parent figure. The line between employer and employee is still evident but there is also genuine concern in the former's actions. Su Ning already knew of Gu Co. Ltd in her past life, it was a conglomerate in the medical, technology, and transportation industry. Her accounting firm even worked on some of the financial statements of Gu Co. Ltd's subsidiaries. Needless to say, the Gu Family was extremely affluent, the top 1 percent.

To be honest, Su Ning hopes not to be entangled with these rich people. She liked their current financial situation; they have a solid middle class footing in society. Their family lived comfortably but not luxuriously in a small 2 bedroom apartment. And they can afford to go on 1-2 family vacations a year. She selfishly hoped that Father Su does not intend to rise up the corporate ladder to be an executive at the company. Nothing good comes from having too much money. Those families are always heavily embroiled in messy internal politics. In addition, they will never treat outsiders better than their own kin so it is better not to get too close.

When Su Ning sat up from her hospital bed, her eyes met that of Gu YuChen who looked at her impassively. In turn, she gave a soft smile and said "Thank you for your kindness, Young Master Gu. You didn't have to make this trip, especially you must be very busy." Her words must have surprised everyone in the room as there were seconds of awkward silence. Su Ning belatedly forgot her body was currently only 12 years old. 'Ah I unconsciously spoke to him the way I would to a client.' The Su Ning in my memories was a bit spoiled and liked to act cute. She was especially doted on since she was born with a heart defect.

"Young Master Gu, NingNing woke up a week ago and lost part of her memory. Please don't mind if she doesn't behave the way she used to."said Mother Qin concernedly. Then Father Su said to Su Ning, "NingNing, don't you remember. You used to call Young Master Gu, YuChen-Gege." Su Ning frowned a bit upon hearing this. The original body doesn't seem to have any strong feelings towards Gu YuChen since Su Ning cannot recall any memories of him. But why are Mother Qin's and Father Su's words implying as if she and Young Master Gu were familiar with each other. Su Ning pondered a bit before having an 'a-ha' moment. 'The original body and this facial paralysis kid must have a plastic relationship. Wow even kids have fake friends now. I feel old lah.' Su Ning thought while nodding.

On the other hand, Gu YuChen watched the changing expressions on Su Ning's little face without batting an eye. They had first met 4 years ago when Auntie Qin brought her daughter to the mansion to visit. His first impression was that Su Ning was just a shallow, spoiled, and cute daughter of his favorite housekeeper. She always had a coquettish look on her face while calling him Gege. She frequently asked for new toys to play with. Gu YuChen didn't particularly like Su Ning. He knew Auntie Qin doted on her only daughter even more because of her illness. Yet, he felt no sympathy towards the girl. Currently however, the gaze of Su Ning unnerved him a little. There was no coquettishness instead she was indifferent and even a bit disdainful. Her tone also used to be childish but earlier she responded how he would respond with his elders. He also did not recall Su Ning had such vivid expressions. In the past, she would pretend to behave gracefully in front of elders. Gu YuChen remained expressionless throughout his visit but a seed of doubt has been planted in his heart.
