15 The Transient

I called her name but she did not answer. I stood in horrific paralysis.

That can't be. She was right here, I thought almost aloud. I got up and staggered back causing the chair to make a screeching sound. I startled and called out her name but my apartment was more silent than usual. Where are you? It was rather a loud thought. She was not anywhere near me. "Layen" I screamed and ran out of the house and into the street. I heard heavy footsteps running after me, I did not look back and when I felt hands on my shoulders, arms and waist, I called her name before sliding into the dark world of unconsciousness.

I opened my eyes and I was lying down on my bed. My friend James and Danny were sitting close to me. When I looked inquiringly around my bedroom, they told me that everything was okay. Danny, a medical doctor, told me that I was stressed up at work and I only need a lot of rest. Earlier this afternoon I got a distress call from someone and when I got here; your neighbours were already fanning you so I called James. They stayed with me for a few more hours before retiring for the night. As I lay down hoping to get some more sleep, I saw Layen standing at the far end of the room, she was still crying and that was when everything came back to perspective.

"Will you hurt me?" I asked with a great effort. She shook her head, "I can't." she replied slowly.

"What do you want from me?"

"Nothing. I love you big, but now, I can't be with you or around you again." She said as tears and mucus ran into her mouth. I sat up on the bed and asked,

"Will you kill me?"

She shook her head vigorously.

"What are you?" I asked in a trembling voice.

She looked at me and began.
