12 Selfish or Betrayal

Three days crawled by without a word from me; she just walked right into my office and sat down quietly opposite me. I hurried the customer I was with and gave Layen a puckish grin.

"You never told me you were coming; at least I would have picked you from the airport."

"You never called to know how I was doing," she replied curtly. We were both aware of the tension in the air, and the fact that we were avoiding something.

"Give me your keys I will go wait for you at home, I am really tired." Her words were in a slow stream which indicated that she was not ready for any form of argument.

"Use my car." I optioned, she shook her head.

"just come back home." She said in a way that suggested we-have a-lot-to-settle.

An hour later, my phone rang, I picked the phone and the branch manager laughed into my ear.

"You have two days off, starting in about….24 minutes."

"What? Why…?"

"Order from above. If I were you, I would take a trip to one of the Caribbean beaches. Enjoy."

I signed out and left the office and it was really a smooth drive home.

"I was not expecting you this soon." She said as I walked into the inviting aroma. I held her hand and asked her a direct question.

"Tell me you did not do this and I will believe you."

I attached no emotion to my tone and she hesitated for a while.

"I only wanted to talk with you. I am sorry."

"That's the problem, you are too powerful!" I dropped her hands quietly and walked out of the kitchen.

I sprawled on the sofa and wished to be alone in the Caribbean beach as Tony had suggested.
