8 Getting to know you

It's Saturday morning and I have to meet up with Kyle today for the science project. We decided to meet at the library at 1pm. After my lunch, I started walking and then saw a little boy in the middle of the sidewalk. "Hey, what's wrong?" as I try to see what happen. The little boy looked at me and started crying. I started to panic because I didn't know why and don't know what I should do. I checked my bag and found a lollipop. I gave it to him and he stopped crying.

"Now, can you tell sister what happen?" and as he stare at the lollipop he said "my balloon flew away and my brother bought me that." I asked where his parents are and he said they're at work and won't be coming back till 8pm. I took a look at my watch and it's 1.

"Sis, can I stay with you?" while still whimpering. As I was about to reply, his brother came back and told him that he have to work. I stopped him and asked him who's gonna take care of him.

"I'm sorry, but can you look after him for me?" and then handed me his contact info and ran off.

The little boy grabbed onto my hand and I have no choice but to bring him with me.

When I got to the library, I was already 30 minutes late. I found him sitting there with the books out. As I walk towards him, Gina appeared. I hesitated and wasn't sure if I should continue to walk over. Kyle turned around and saw me. Our eyes meet and he started walking towards me and leaving Gina there. "Sorry," as I stare at the floor. "Why are you sorry?" as he smile at me. Aren't he mad that I was late. "well, uhmmm I this is Benjamin and I have to look after him until his parents are back." Little Ben smile as he walk over to him and gave him a hug. Kyle nodded and guided us to the table. I took the seat next to him and little Ben went to get a book to read. Gina was still standing there and she was staring at Kyle the whole time. It seems like she was waiting for his respond.

"Sorry, I've already have a partner," he answered coldly without giving her a look. He took my hand and Gina walked away.

"Ok, lets get started." I nodded and we started doing it.

We were doing it for so long that we didn't realize it was late already. It was 6pm and little Ben fell asleep on the table. We started to pack and I try waking up little Ben, but he wouldn't. "It's okay, I'll carry him home," said Kyle. The streets was pretty quiet and we didn't really talk as we walk. Little Ben's brother saw us and took Ben from Kyle. He said thank you and went in. We started to walk home after. He suddenly stopped me in front of the light pole and turned me around facing him. "Would you allow me to protect you forever?" as he say this looking in my eyes. What does he mean by that? For the past few days, he's been acting so different and weird. He started talking to me and wanted me to be his partner for the project. This is so different of his as I stare at him and not knowing what to say.
