PATLAU

Once, a long time ago, an archipelago was formed. The archipelago consisted of four islands encircling the sea known as Mabe Sea. Sailors and travellers would come to know the island as Patlau.

Patlau's island was situated like a compass. Tara Island in the north, Seltan Island in the south, Timor island in the east, and Baret Island in the west.

Out of the four, only Timor Island and Baret Island were populated with humans. The other two, were left behind by the citizens of Patlau. Each island, for completely different reasons.

Tara was a huge plateau island. There's a freshwater lake, known as the Tasu Lake, in the middle of the plateau. The lake, strangely, came from the sea. The land magically sucked the water from the ocean, filtered it, and became fresh water in the lake.

The land on Tara Island was very fertile. So the Baret and Timor Kingdom both agreed to use Tara Island as agricultural land. Crops and livestocks are being kept and grown there. And both islands profited equally from the island.

If Tara Island was kept unpopulated because it brought benefit to the people of Patlau, then Seltan Island was not populated because it brought danger to those that ever tried to build a house there. Let alone a settlement.

Seltan Island was home to the wildest and the most terrifying creatures ever to exist. Since the dense rainforest covered the entirety of the island and Bangus Island at the centre, the monsters and spirits have the perfect ecosystem to thrive in.

Some brave Patlau souls have tried to venture into the forest, against the better judgement of the people. Sadly, none have ever made it back home. Their souls probably joined the horde of ghosts haunting the forest.

And then, there's the two islands that were actually home to people. Even though they are neighbours, they are not close. They haven't fought or anything, but there's always animosity between them.

And nobody knew why either.

Anyway, on to the two islands.

Timor Island, was a haven for knowledge and discovery. It's no wonder that their mages and healers were known across the world. Their knowledge on magic and medicine were so vast, that witches, wizards and healers sailed to Timor to improve their knowledge and skills. Their Healing Corp. was also hired to be deployed to help decrease the fatality rate of soldiers.

Lastly, there's the tough kingdom of Baret. If Timor was well known for their Healing Corp., then Baret Island Army was feared all over the world. If Baret was on your side, then you're as good as winning the war already. As a matter of fact, there's a rumour about a war where the other side just surrendered.

And so, Baret was the destination for warriors. Every tough guy wannabe went there trying to test their strength. Every now and then, there's a few decent people turned up that receive praise by Baret's warriors. And that amazing people would be sought after by every nation to be in their army.

Since the two kingdoms were at odds with each other, Patlau was cleft in twain. Not literally of course. Each kingdom fished on their sides of Mabe Sea. Each kingdom had their own side of Tara Island's Agricultural Area. Thankfully the entrance was in the middle, so it all worked out.

As for Seltan, nobody cared. Not a lot of people were dumb enough to go there anyway. Those that are dumb enough to go, probably deserved to die anyway.

It does not seem like Timor and Baret are ever gonna reconcile their differences. However, as fate would have it, a chance encounter between the youngest princess of Timor and the only prince of Baret, shall bridge the gap between the two kingdoms.
