1 Followed By A Nymph

Hi this is my first book that I'm publishing! Please no hate, I'm still learning. Most things in this novel are not factual. It is simply based on the myth, for instance characters may have technology or foods not from the era. This is based off the Greek myth of Persephone and Hades. Thanks and enjoy!

A young Persephone sat by a bubbling brooke, surrounded by many wild flowers. Her locks of orange hair slid down her pale shoulders. She was wearing a long white gown.

"Mother, why do the fish swim in the water?" Persephone curiously asked Demeter.

"My love, they swim because they need water just as much as we need air." Demeter replied simply.

Of course that wasn't the true answer, but Demeter didn't wish to explain the anatomy of a fish to a six year pold.

Humming to herself, Persephone remained entranced by the coy fish paddling in the pond.

Demeter was a dotting and overbearing mother. She loved Persephone with all her heart.

11 years later

I ran along the marshy grass, and sat under a large willow. The tree was on the edge of a large forest facing an open grassy planes. The air was crisp, and Autumn was approaching, my favorite season.

"I know your there Gretchen." I sighed.

"Malady, your mother wanted me to keep an eye on you." Replied Gretchen, a nymph of the sea.

"As always, why do I never get to be left alone."

"Your mother just cares"

"A little too much if you ask me"

Sometimes mother was too obsessed with me, she never let me go off alone in fear that I would get abducted. Is it so bad that I just wish to be alone for once? No matter how much my mother gives me it doesn't make up for the enclosed life I have. I've never met another person my age before, I have only met a few other gods. I feel like I can't go anywhere without being followed by Gretchen, and she's too afraid to leave my side because she thinks mother will kill her. I guess life never changes. I'm doomed to live like this for all eternity.
