The Reunion

Today is the day. Today is the day I have been putting off for so long. Today is the day that my mum is coming home. I honestly don't know what to think. She is supposed to be better, hopefully. The thing is I really don't want to have to look after her. I am struggling enough on my own without her to look after as well. Deep breaths, deep breaths. Right lets do this.

Ding Dong. The doorbell rings. I get up and unfold my cane. Tap. Tap. Tap. I wander down the hall slowly trying to take as much time as possible. Click. I unlock the door and there is a long silence.

"Mum?" I say uncertainly, it might not be her.

"I am here honey." Mum says in a flat voice. I am puzzled. Is she not happy to see me? I stand in the doorway awkwardly, unsure of what to do. I reach out trying to find her hand, she flinches. I step back hurt. Waiting for her to say something. To do something. I hear fast fading footsteps, "Mum?" I say wondering what it was. But mum was gone.

I slowly wander back inside like a zombie. I slowly crawl into bed. I slowly cry myself to sleep. A few hours later I wake up to the sound of my phone. It is from mum, I set my phone to read her messages, it says, "Honey I am sorry but you have to understand how hard this is for me, to find out I have been in a car crash and my daughter is blind. I don't know how I am going to look after you so I have called your aunt and she is going to look after you for i while because I need some time of as a parent to process how hard this is for me." I throw my phone across the room as hard as I can and go back to sleep.
