1 Chapter 1

I can't believe my parents are moving us across the world. I'm not even going to be in the same country. They don't even drive on the right side of the road in the UK. And I have to sit next to my brother on a seven-hour flight.

"Kat, we have to get going or we'll miss our flight" my mother shouted upstairs.

I began looking around at the house I've grown up in my whole life, reminiscing about all the fun I have had between the four walls of my bedroom. "Goodbye, I wish I could stay," I whispered towards the crackling paint.

All too soon we were boarded and I was stuck sitting between my brother who has a neck pillow wrapped around him so tight you'd think he couldn't breathe, and an old lady who should definitely change her cats' litter boxes more often.

I began writing in my notebook to distract myself from my horrid luck. I've always had a knack for writing. It helps calm me down when my anxiety starts making me worry too much.

I must have ended up falling asleep because I soon woke up to my brother shaking me violently.

"Kat, Kat, Kat We're here!"

"Oh my god you lunatic, calm down. I just woke up." I leaned up and rubbed my head to clear it. Once I was somewhat more aware of my surroundings I realized that Carter was right. We had made it to Scotland and I can't wait to get off this damned plane.

Once we made it to the luggage carousel I sat down waiting for our bags. Most people had gone by the time we had collected all of ours, but my dad went ahead and called a taxi while we were waiting.

We drove along the road, on the wrong side might I add, towards my new life. I'm not really sure how I feel, excited, nervous, terrified, nostalgic. My thinking got cut short when the old taxi's brakes began to whine to a halt in front of an ivy-covered mansion.

"This is our house?" I was awestruck at the intricacy and size of it.

"Holy shit, It's huge" Carter must be as impressed as I am.

"I call the big room!" And he's gone. I turned around as I watched him sprint up the staircase to go find his room.

"I'm sure there are plenty of rooms in this place, I don't think I'm going to have to fight him for one" I quietly conversed with my mother for a few minutes as we grabbed things from the car before going inside.

"I just hope I can make this house as much of a home as the last one was" I mumbled mainly to myself. And with that, I stepped through the threshold and let the doors close behind me.
