6 The party 1

Chapter 6

It's a beautiful morning,I've been sleeping on the couch for weeks now and my back hurts like crazy.

Today is the party and I can't wait to see my parents and you know who.

Clark was paired up with Melody,the girl everyone knows in the village as a talkative.

I can imagine how frustrated Clark must be by now.How come we were both unlucky,most people were paired either with those ladies or guys they've been eyeing secretly or those that were still manageable.

Damien hasn't been home for some days now.I guess he's been out philandering with his girls.I could have used that privilege to sleep the bed in his absence but there's nothing that devil wouldn't fish out.

The arm he injured the other day has a scar already.

The good things about the whole situation is Daine and mother,they both have lovely souls.I guess Damien took after his Dad,the mayor.

Daine would still meet with me even after her brother gave her a sound warning not to get involved with me.

Sometimes we sing together, even though she's just 19 she has the most sonorous voice I've ever heard although she would argue that mine is more sonorous.

Oh and she teaches me embroidery as well although I haven't really gotten the hang of it.

The party is scheduled to begin by 7pm and preparations have been going on since the week before.The tailors came to measure I and Damien about a week ago but the chefs have been busy with choosing the menu,the florists and the bakers have been busy with their various works as well.

I wonder how many people would be attending the party for the preparation to be as much as this.I only invited my parents, and Clark.He told me he doesn't want to come with Melody and I was secretly happy when he said that and Anna would have been the fourth person if she wasn't Ill.

Ralph called few days ago to inform me of her illness and I wouldn't even dare go to her because of Damien's threat .However I spoke with her on the cellphone and lied that I am out of the village for a while,but for some reason she didn't sound like someone who bought that.

I took out the dress I was to wear in the evening,Daine brought them the day before,it was a fitted long black evening gown with slits by the sides meant to expose a certain amount of skin.

She also came along with a necklace which she referred to as the family crest,it has love and unity engraved on it,its a truly unique piece.

I think mother and Diane are a bit over the top by giving me the family crest.what if we fail the test?

I don't know,I don't want to be single for the rest of my life and I also don't want to live with this monster for the rest of my life.

I was trying to pack the dress and necklace when Damien entered,the last 3 days have been heaven for me,no complains about the way I look,no hurtful words as well.I remembered the day he said I looked like an ugly witch.

He just went straight to the shelf to get some documents and then left without uttering a word.

"Thats weird"I didn't know when I said that out aloud.

It's about 6pm and visitors have started pouring into the hall.i was getting ready for the party as well.Daine came to help me out she offered to help fix my hair and do my make up.

She curled my hair and pinned it sideways, and beautified it with rose shaped silver ornaments,which took the style to another level entirely.

She then began to do my makeup,I told her I wanted something subtle but she wouldn't have it.She applied red blush on my cheeks and a crimson red lipstick on my lips.

When she was done,she looked at me and gasped which initially made me scared,I wanted to ask what went wrong when said "you look like a goddess ".

"That's because I have a good makeup artist"I said wowed by the image of myself in the mirror as well.

A maid came in to inform us of the arrival of my parents.I hurriedly took my clutch bag and left for the hall.

"Seraphine!"someone called out from behind.

"Mum!dad!"I said hugging the both of them tightly.

"How have you been?"mum asked.

"All is well mum,the Daniels have been treating me nicely "I said.

The Daniel household have been good to me with the exception of Damien and somehow I think his dad hates me as well.I remember the way he behaved the last time I tried touching his dog.

"That's great my dear,you don't know how happy I am that you were paired into this family "mum said grinning from ear to ear,one could tell that she was excited but somehow I was sad because I lied to her.

"Where's Damien?mum asked.

"shouldn't he be here to welcome us as well?"

"Well....I think"I stuttered as I racked my brain thinking of an excuse.

"Mrs Richardson "Damien called from behind,I don't have to turn around before recognizing his voice.

I turned around and then something happened which made me think of stabbing myself to death!
