9 Under the same blanket

Ariadne closed the windows of the bedroom and let out the lanterns. It was time for her to retire to sleep and forget the nightmare of what she had experienced.

The fact can't change that she truly wished the sun had not risen that morning. Her life had taken one wrong turn after the other all through the day. She even had to break a girl's bones because she dared to call her names in her room.

She climbed on her bed and laid herself down. It was a chilly night, even with windows closed she could still feel cold.

She pulled the huge and warm blanket over her body and closed her eyes to sleep. She twisted and turned on the bed unable to fall into slumber.

Her mind kept thinking of the male that was sleeping by the couch with a thin blanket. It worried her that he might catch a cold.

She hated him so the idea of him getting a cold should make her feel happy and contented but it only made her feel worse. She couldn't sleep and was constantly working about him.

"Let me just check if he is fine," she said sitting up on the bed. She touched her bedside table and got match sticks. She lit one of the candles next to her bed and glanced over at the male.

He was holding on to the thin blanket while his body trembled.

"If he is cold he would have asked to join me on the bed but he didn't so he is fine," she noted.

She blew out the candle and went back to sleep. Once again sleep did not come to her. The image of the male shaking from the cold would taunt her each time she closed her eyes.

It forced her to sit up again. She lit the candle again and bit her lip nervously. The boy in question hated her so if she were to ask him to the bed, he might consider it her defeat.

What more was the fact her pride was on the line. Having mercy for him was not part of the plan and she feared that the male might get weird idea as to why she was asking him to join her on the bed.

With all this in mind, she found it hard to call him over. Her conscious was not going to let her sleep with him in that condition so helping him was the best option if she wanted to get some rest.

She arranged the pillows to divide the bed. She got up from the bed and looked for a rope in her wardrobe. She took the rope be returned to her bed, she tied one end of the rope to the bed pole and the other side opposite the first.

She fetched an opaque bed sheet and hung it on the rope. The sheet separated the two sides of the bed in a way they wouldn't be able to see each other while they slept. He fetched a face mask from her cupboard and placed it on top of his side of the room.

It was too cold to turn the candles off so in case he couldn't sleep with the lights on then he can put it on.

She frowned at the realization that she was really being considerate of her enemy. But she was too tired to scold herself.

She picked up one of her shoes from the ground and aimed it at Draxan. She measured the angle and aimed to hit his stomach. She had shown him enough concern for the night. Anymore and she would lose.

"Aahhh," Draxan let out caught off guard by the attack. Even though the female had thrown the show softly it still landed hard on his stomach and woke him up.

"What in th..."

"Save your words for someone who is interested in hearing them," Ariadne interrupted him. She was not in the mood to be lectured by a man. "I have divided to other side of the bed for you. You can come and sleep here, the blanket is warmer," she added.

"And why would I do that?" Draxan asked scared that it was a trap. The princess had proven that she was not a good person to offend and he had offended her on more that one occasion so he had to take precaution around her.

"If you catch a cold tomorrow. It would not be on me," she said and went to sleep.

The guilt was gone so she was able to relax without worry. She had done her part, it was his choice whether he would take the offer or not.

Seeing as he wasn't getting any more answers from her, he considered the offer. He was cold on the couch and the blanket he had was to thin to help him.

"I will sleep on the bed but keep one eye open in case she is up to something," he uttered to himself and moved to go to the bed.

He was impressed by her efforts to separate the bed, he was happy that she didn't want anything to do with him. In fact having her make the wall was the best thing she has done for him the whole day.

He climbed on the bed, the bed felt softer than anything that his body had ever had the honor of being on. And the blanket, she wasn't lying when she said it was warmer. He covered his body and in no time started to feel warm.

He relaxed his head on the pillow and closed his eyes. It had been a long day and he was tired, he fell asleep right there at that time.

The two fell into deep slumber from being mentally and physically exhausted. The day had drained them both to a point of exhaustion. Under the same blanket they let the warmth of it protect them from the cold night.
