5 Chapter 4

After that day at the market Maera avoided going back down there. All of it made her feel uneasy, and she was afraid that seeing the necklace again would trigger a vision. She turned her energy towards studying the ancient texts and images up at the temple of Poseidon. So for the next two weeks her and the team of other students spent their days up at the ruin temple on the cliff that over looked the sea. Maera was fascinated by the history of this place and the artifacts that she hoped to find. They had unearth quite a lot since they started working there.

When she wasn't up at the temple she was looking further into the demigod Aeolus's heir Drakon, his name in English meaning dragon. The young woman who he supposedly gave the mystical necklace to was said to be his only concubine, but treated like a queen. Why not marry her though, was it something to do with the ancient customs of marriage? There was hardly any records about the woman. If there was it didn't survive or perhaps there was another reason that history wanted to keep a secret.  She even inquired with the local historians who ran the museum which was once the palace of ancient kings that still stood today for tourists to visit.

Even the people she talked to had very little info on the mysterious woman. Only they knew were the legends. The story goes that she suddenly appeared one day from a major storm, and the high priestess Actaea found her on the beach below the temple on the cliff. Then the king, Aeolus came to the temple and saw her just the one time and fell in love with her. It was said that the young woman had the gift of second sight given to her by the gods, and that she was human others say she was a sea nymph like Actaea.

As Maera studied more about this woman the more she found herself feeling like it was about her. She knew that it was impossible, but what if it was a past life of hers or did she really end up in the ancient past? It all made her feel uneasy, and then the same dream she have been having more and more lately made her think it could all be real. When she could she made a phone call to her aunt Thetis. She would know more about the legends surrounding their family's past. It was on a day Maera was off, and was her free day from working up at the temple. When she knew she would be coming to Greece for school, Maera signed up for international calls with her cell phone company so she could keep in contact with her aunt.

Maera had steeped outside onto the back porch from the house they were renting. It overlooked the sea, it was a beautiful sight. She pulled out her cell phone and started dial her aunts number. Her aunt back home is 8 hours behind, so it would be 6:00 pm there. It only rang once, when her aunt picked up. "Everything ok honey? Did something happen?"

"You always know when something is wrong."

"I had a feeling. I always know when there is something wrong cause you have that worry tone in your voice."

"It has to do with our family history aunt Thetis. And it's making me nervous auntie." She was silent for a moment. "Tell me what's happened. Was it something you saw honey?"

"The stories the locals have told us, it's all about the sea nymph Actaea, and her charge she raised. Poseidon's half mortal, half god son Aeolus. He never married but had an heir born to his concubine. There's hardly any history on her though. The locals say she was suddenly appeared from a storm, and had the second sight given to her by the gods. That she was the one true love of Aeolus. Aunt Thetis what if it has something to do with me? About the same dream I've been having. And I saw the necklace. The same one in my dream!"

"Necklace? The one with the dark green stone, with ruins written around it? You've seen it, in person?"

"Yes, at the market on the first day I was here. This woman who looked liked you which is even more strange. She was selling different jewelry, and there is was on a silver chain. It was a dark green stone in the shape of an oval with a silver border around it with an inscription written on it. I've seen in person, and it felt like if i stared at it long enough I was gonna have a vision. What does it all mean aunt Thetis?" Maera was shaking hard. All of it was making her nervous.

"Calm down honey, take a deep breath. I've seen many strange things in all my years, and it's not impossible that something like this stone, our history, and our gift is all related. You need to be careful Maera. I have always told you to not dig to deep into the past. It could come back on you. And it's something you might not want to know."

"What have you seen auntie?" Her aunt was quite on the other end.

"It has to do with you honey." Maera was silent, all this was making her even more nervous.

"In the vision, I see you being surrounded by several men in black armor. Their swords drawn, pointed at you and a tall warrior. He has black hair, dark green eyes, he was wearing dark brown armor, one of his arm wrapped around you, and the other with his sword drawn. He was protecting you against the others. Possibly the enemies. And then suddenly the vision ends. I've been having this vision for the last two weeks. The same time you arrived in Greece."

Maera was silent for a long time. The hair on her arms stood up, and her heart was racing. It was all true then. The dream she was having, the necklace, the history of her family, and her gift of second sight. A curse, and a gift.

"Maera are you alright honey?"

"I'm here auntie. Will this come to pass? Or is all this just shadows that might never happen?"

"From what you told me, and our history and gift it might happen. You being in the past honey. You must be carful Maera. If this is all true, you must not trust anyone. For there are those who will use you for your gift for their own dark reasons."

"What about the warrior who was protecting me? Is he someone I can trust?"

"He maybe, but still cautious. Be careful of the past while you are there. And stay away from that dark green stone necklace. It sounds like something powerful and ancient. Not to be messed with. I might have to talk to Angelique about it too. She knows things too about the supernatural and about objects that could be more than what they appear. You know Lucian was asking about you." Right before she left to come her to Greece, he and his long time girlfriend were engaged but had broken up because she was seen with someone else down at one of the restaurants near his aunts shop. Lucian was devastated about it, Maera was there to comfort him, but right before it had happen she started having those visions of the man on the beach, and the feelings she had for this person in her vision. Now she was confused on her feelings for Lucian and for this man, possibly warrior that was in her visions.

"Are you still there dear?"

"Yes I'm here auntie, so Lucian asked about me?"

"Yes, I told him you're doing alright there and wanted to know if you could give him a call?"

"I would but I've keep having those visions of the warrior on the beach. And now your having visions of him as well."

"You must be carful my darling, stay away from the stone and call me if you need me."

"Thank you aunt Thetis. I miss you."

"I miss you too honey. Be safe. Goodbye my love."

"Bye auntie, love you too." They both hung up. Maera put her phone away, and stared at the sea. She somehow knew somewhere deep down that the man in her dreams was real. That feeling of being loved in her dream was real. She was the woman in the legends.
