14 Chapter 14

It was past ten in the evening when we arrived at the mansion he said. It is a whopping triple the size of our mansion in Manila. The entire household is made of red limestone bricks. The only wood is the balusters on the large staircase and chairs that are fully varnished. Modern chandeliers illuminate the interior of the mansion. They come in a variety of designs. It was big and luxurious. It almost makes me feel just how rich the Acuzars are and how dangerous they are as opponents.

"Kalex! your father and mother have been waiting for you for a while," said the old woman. She quickly approached Kris after we entered the mansion.

"Aren't they sleeping yet, Nana Julia?"

"Both are excited when you come home so until now they haven't slept," She declared happily.

She turned to me. Looks curious. "You have someone with you, son," he said without Kris taking his eyes off me.

"She's Mischa, Nana Julia," introduced by Kris.

I smiled sweetly at the old woman. She also returned my smile but the astonishment still lingered in her eyes.

"I'll just call Sir at the library to let them know you've arrived." Kris nodded so Nana Julia left immediately. She went straight to the door near the stairs and entered there.

Kris sat on the big sofa and lay there himself looking tired from the trip. He made me sit next to him but I didn't obey that. I also sat for a few hours earlier on the trip. My butt hurt when I sat down so I decided to just stand up. The white towel he had given me earlier was still wrapped around my waist. I wasn't wearing shoes but I could stand the cold of the cement. 'The sea was even colder when I swam last night.

"Kalex!"

Kris and I looked at the source of that voice at the same time. I saw the Acuzar couple come out were Nana Julia's entered. Engineer Lawrence is holding Mrs. Jamaica's waist as he leads her closer to our place.

I previously read in the newspaper about the love story of the two. They both knew they were siblings but they loved each other more than that. It was too late when they found out that they were not really siblings. Jamaica left the country and settled there and when he returned to the Philippines their love resurfaced. I know their age gap is five years, just like Mommy and Daddy. Daddy already knew the Acuzars when I was young but our family is not that close to them for reasons I don't know.

The full attention of the two is just focused on their child. Kris approached Mrs. Jamaica and gave it a kiss on the cheek. He patted his father on the shoulder.

I couldn't take my eyes off them. Kris looks like her father and the complexion he got is from her mother. They also have the same eye. Black dark eyes. I confirmed that when his mother looked at me. Her black dark eyes shot at me. I don't know what the first reaction will be. Do I smile or greet? I do not know. That's why I maintain my poker face.

"You didn't say you had a companion, Kalex. Who is she?"

I sighed at that question from Mr. Lawrence. I opened my mouth to speak but I had no palpable voice there.

"She's Mischa Alaina Alcott," Kris introduced me.

The couple reacted differently when they heard my name. An amusement is evident in the eyes of Mr. Lawrence while anger is seen in the eyes of Mrs. Acuzar.

"Are you familiar with Jewel Alcott and Engineer Darcy Alcott?" his father asked.

I nodded. "I-I'm their only daughter."

I don't know why I'm nervous in front of them. Maybe it's because I don't have the confidence and also because of what I'm looking and wearing right now.

Mrs. Acuzar didn't remove her eyes at me and she still stares at me from head to toe and back. Eventually the insult will be seen in her eyes.

"You're not that beautiful enough but I still can't imagine why Vergel cancelled his marriage to Jenny just because of you."

It's as if I'm shrinking from the frankness of Mrs. Acuzar. I couldn't react immediately.

"Mom!"

"Darling ..."
