19 CHAPTER 18

“Why did you call?” I asked Drake on the line. It was past 10 in the evening. I was about to sleep when my phone rang.

“Can we talk?”

“Drake, do you know what time it is?”

“Yes, uhm, don’t worry. This will be short.” I nodded my head like he’s in front of me.

“Okay, fire away.” I heard him laughed a little before clearing his throat.

“Remember what I told you earlier?”

I cleared my throat before answering him, “Yeah,” in a rhythmic tone.

I could imagine him smiling when I answered him but I chose to ignore it.

Damn, this is awkward.

“I wanted you to know that I’m serious about it.” He said, clearly uncomfortable with what he said.

I laughed a little, picturing him scratching the back of his neck.

“Okay?” I heard him sigh before speaking.

“Can I court you?” it took me awhile to understand what he meant.

Then I shook my head. “No, Drake.”

He sighed again and after a moment of silence he spoke again.
