The Prince

The rising sun casts a shadow across Amanda's brown bun. She had braided in some scraps to create a simple but intricate looking hair style another scrap piece makes a bow on top. As for her dress she tore the sleeves off to allow for more movement of the arms and replaced it with a short layered scrap sleeve, the skirt has a similar layered look of all different colors that make an elaborate pattern.

"Merlin! How did you make this?"

"I found some scraps in my wardrobe."

"Why are you a servant? You should be a seamstress for the Queen!"

"I take that is a compliment?"

"Of the highest order, you made a ball gown out of a maid's dress and scraps of cloth."

"One I can move in, if I am to be in a world I do not know I will at least look good being here."

"M'ladies, the Prince demands to know why no-"

"Isn't she gorgeous, and her hair, how did you do that so fast?"

"I think we should listen to the guard a go serve the Prince Ms... sorry, what's your name?"

"Amar."

"Nice to meet you, Amar."

Amanda's footsteps echoed Amar's as she followed her down the hall, we passed many people who looked like nobles that gave slight bows. "Wow Merlin, everyone thinks you're a noble in that dress."

"I think it's a compliment."

"It is," The hall goes silent when they stop a heavy oak door, "Quick warning, the Prince has a slight temper."

"Slight?"

"Ok he has a temper, but you get used to it."

When they enter he is speaking to the man who burst into Amanda's room earlier today.

"I want those servants better dressed this castle is freezing and they are on the floor all day!"

"We can't spare the money sir."

"Find a way!"

"I might have a way." Amar offers.

"Who asked for your input servant?" The Prince turns his angry face to us.

"Sorry, sir."

"New girl, who changed your clothes and how?"

"I did sir, there were scraps at the bottom of the wardrobe and so I thought if I would work at the castle, I should at least look good."

"How long did it take?"

"Less than an hour m'lord."

"Tip one-m'lord is my father, I am sir."

"Sorry, sir."

"Good, Amar go get my breakfast, what is your name new girl?"

"Merlin sir." The Keeper answers for me.

"I believe she can speak, if she wishes another name I shall call her as such. Now what is your name?"

Amar looks at Amanda, wishing to know if the king will know her as Merlin or Amanda, she looks at the Keeper then back at the Prince, "They know me as Merlin but my real name is Amanda, it is up to you which you wish to call me."

"Manda, starts with M like Merlin and is short for Amanda, there. Amar, what are you still doing here?"

"Sorry sir."

"Now let's see you need a job Manda."

"She could replace the maid that cleaned your room."

"I am perfectly capable of doing that myself Keeper."

"Sir what is the point of maid's if they don't clean?"

"What would you like to do Manda?"

She squeamishly looks between the Prince and the Keeper. "Design clothes if possible?"

"Bah! A mere servant designing clothes! What garbage."

"Keeper it is my desicion what she does, you merely look after her room and board, which for her you no longer do."

"What?" The Keeper takes a step back in surprise

"Who designed her dress?"

"I don't know... I've never seen it."

"I did it myself sir."

"When?"

"This morning."

"She can quickly design and make clothes out of seemingly nothing and I need a new wardrobe anyway. These designers patterns are being used to much across the kingdom and father wants me to stand out."

"Of course, sir." The Keeper grinds his teeth, his eyes ablaze with fire.

"Now leave."

"Yes, sir."

Once the Keeper has exited the room the Prince turns to me. "Answer me this, why did I find you in the forest in a man's clothes?"

"What?"

"I found you in the forest in a man's clothes."

Oh, modern clothes right. "They weren't mans clothes where I come from."

"So let me get this straight... there is a kingdom where woman where pants and shirts?"

"Yes. Some woman there refuse to wear dresses at all."

"Intresting... well now you are here so act like a proper woman."

"Already figured that out sir."

"Good."

"So what color is your wardrobe going to be?"

"Blue silver and green are the kingdom colors so use those for formal wear. Casaul wear, my favorite color is green. Make my robe green and blue."

"How many outfits?"

"Five formal, 10 casual and one robe."

"I need one formal outfit, one casual and your current robe."

"What why?"

"Because I assume you've already been meseaured before and hate standing still for that long."

"How did you-?"

"No one likes standing still like that."

"Oh."

He moves to another room that she assumes is his closet.

"You getting rid of all of that?"

"Yeah, Dad wants me to have variety. I hate it."

"If you can provide the materials I can make it look like variety, or actually add variety."

"Do not make my closet a rainbow. That is what the other designer called variety."

"No, the flourishes. Also you are getting accessories."

"Oh dear..."

"Sorry, my fashion career never really let me do anything back in my old kingdom."

"Ok, just don't make it blinding." He hands me the outfits and calls a servant to the room, "Take Manda to the designers room."

"Yes sir. Please follow me ma'am."

"Hey Manda."

She turns to look at the Prince, "Yes, sir?"

"Do you know why the Keeper was taken aback?"

"No, sir."

"Fashion Designer is a nobles position. No family has held it for more then a generation."

"Thank you sir."

He nods and she takes it has a single to leave.
