Prologue

"Come on Jackie, we're gonna be late!"

"Coming, Janet!" I yelled begrudgingly. I went downstairs to see my mom, dad, and twin sister sitting at the table. This was an unusual sight for me. My parents usually left for work right before we woke up. It was one of the reasons that I woke up so late, to make sure they were gone. Unfortunately my sister had insisted on waking me up at around six am like a complete nutjob. Then, I saw a gift on the table. It was wrapped with the most beautiful golden wrapping paper and a vivid neon purple bow.

I opened it to find a brand new gold and black t-shirt for my favorite band, The Skullers. I also noticed the new barrette in my sister's hair. "Mom, what is this? Our birthdays aren't till next week." They just looked at each other and bit their lips nervously. I realized what this meant.

I'd heard my parents talking about having to send us to a boarding school, the one with all the snobby rich kids and the harsh teachers. So what if I had broken stuff multiple times and made more messes than I could count. Is that so wrong? It was always hard trying to please them and be their little doll. My face felt warm with rage as tears threatened to spill from my eyes. "Mom, I won't go! I told you time and time again, I don't want to leave! Why do you never listen to what I want!" My mom got up slowly.

"We just want you to be… better. More like a girl. You're always playing in the dirt and doing sports. Wouldn't you rather be normal and go shopping with your 'girlfriends?'"

I yelled," YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT, YOU'RE NOT MY REAL MOM ANYWAY!" Running up to my room, I slammed the door, angrily getting my items packed and sobbing as I thought of my mom's words. "Maybe I am a freak…" I mumbled as I finished filling the suitcase. Little did I know that the mess had just begun, and things would get worse from there.
