Venek could be considered an anomaly among his fellow undead, for his occurrence was beyond the perceptions of even the four lords. First, he had fought on the front lines of the war against the ancient dragons, becoming captain of the Ringed Knights until the end of the war, where he was killed by a legion of silver knights for doubting Lord Gwyn's intentions toward humanity. After that, Venek was reincarnated as an Astoran knight, renowned across the land for his talent in all magics and weapons. Once he was afflicted with the curse of undeath and sent to the asylum, Venek set about the cruel game that the gods had forced on humanity. Trusting neither Kaathe nor Frampt, Venek slew Gwyn and stood guard over the flame, waiting for it to fade. And once it did, his curse was released and Venek perished once more. Reincarnating once again, this time in the far east, Venek again was afflicted with the curse and found himself in Drangleic. Knowing he would loose himself to madness after so long on the throne of want, Venek eventually chose to sacrifice himself to the flames before his power waned. Reincarnating for the third time, Venek figured that he would be cursed just as his previous two lives. As such, he found and served the Lothric royal family as a black hand until the end began. Surprisingly reuniting with his old friend Andre and the irritating crook Patches, Venek also met Yuria of Londor. She explained to him what Kaathe once tried to convey and the fallen Yoel's purpose, which made Venek decide to do as she suggested and become the dark lord. The story begins just after the flame was usurped. (AN: I'm going to be taking a lot of creative liberties since I feel that the normal area size in the souls games would be too small for a book.)
