12 Elite Guard
Back in the capital, almost everything was the same as usual but people were wary of foreigners especially those from Cambria. Even though their main focus was on overwhelming the enemy with superior numbers, assassins were trained to end conflicts faster.
"Isis, do you have the reports I ordered?" King cheai asked while looking through reports
"Yes sir, Kiten will be decreasing their shipments by ten percent." She said reading the report "They claim that the too much support could lead to them getting attacked."
"A decrease could put a strain on winter rations." the king mumbled "This could be terrible if this winter was anything like three years back."
It couldn't be seen yet but rations for the military was slowly cutting into the food supply for the capital. The people's support was necessary for this war and if the rioted because of a food shortage, rebellions could occur at inopportune times.
"Any word from the spies?" the king asked "I need to find an edge that we can exploit in their ranks."
"Sir, I have two reports... um..right here." she said fiddling through the papers "Petri and Marion report that Signan forces are no longer arming a force close to the border but some forces are still moving."
Nobody really had a grasp on what Signa was thinking due to a new monarchy being installed before the war. Maybe they were thinking of invading while our main force was occupied with Cambria or something else we couldn't understand.
"Sir, there is more pressing information." She said "There is a high possibility that Cambria has sent assassins to kill you."
For any other person, this news would have sent them into shock but as a former warrior in the nation's military, he just keep reading the reports.
"Sir, what are we to do about this?" she asked with slight concern
"Its time to wake up the elite guard." he said "They should be happy with this assignment."
The elite guard are the best of the best when it comes to protecting the king being the top ten of the king's guard but they were personally called upon by the king, which wasn't often.
"Andrei, Nero, Q, and Mare will protect me." he explained "Eli will protect my daughter."
A few hours later the four guards named came to the palace to be briefed on their mission.
"Hey old man." shouted a man after busting open the door "Its been a while since you had a job for us."
"Yes Andrei, came on in." the king said "Thank you all for coming so quickly."
None of them seemed particularly focused on formalities, just doing their job and the king knew this.
"You'll like this, Cambria has sent assassins to take me out." he said with a chuckle "I just need one of you to investigate and the others to protect me and my daughter."
"Who'll be doing the investigating?" Andrei asked
"Hmm, who indeed." he replied "Do you want it, Nero?"
"I'll take it if I can do it my way." Nero said
"Of course. I'm giving you all free rein to act as you please." the king replied
That knowledge put them all in a good mood especially Andrei who was ready for a good fight.
"Alright boss, consider it done." Andrei said, leaving the room with a smile on his face.
All anyone could do now was wait and see how the guards will handle an uncertain threat.
