Chapter 542: A Complex Father-Son Relationship
The Lamp God hesitated to speak, having heard rumors about the True Creator's background.
In current discourse, the True Creator was undoubtedly considered a terrifying evil god prone to corruption, standing in opposition to the six major orthodox divine churches. The Aurora Society, His followers, served as evidence of this reputation. His notoriety in the mystical world surpassed even that of the Primordial Witch.
However, the Lamp God had also heard another account of the True Creator's origins. When the Ancient Sun God was about to perish, the three angelic kings serving Him—the Lord of Storms, the Eternal Blazing Sun, and the God of Knowledge and Wisdom—betrayed Him at a critical moment, leading to His downfall. The True Creator was said to be the not-yet-fully-deceased Ancient Sun God, which explained why the three former servants were so hostile towards Him.
The Lamp God couldn't fully discern the truth, as the authority of Night concealed everything, and the Ancient Sun God's residual influence still lingered. Being sealed within the wishing lamp, the Spirit had limited access to hidden information.
Hearing the High-Dimensional Observer inquire about the relationship between the True Creator and Adam stirred these memories. If the second account was true, then the True Creator was indeed the Ancient Sun God—Adam's father. This connection naturally aroused the Observer's suspicions.
The Lamp God, realizing this, chuckled but decided not to share the information. Partly to deny the Observer's curiosity, and partly due to uncertainty about its veracity. Silence was preferable to misinformation.
"A questioning tone," the True Creator remarked dismissively. "Replace questions with contemplation, and you might get closer to the answer."
"I'm merely curious," the High-Dimensional Observer replied, softening his earlier sharp tone. "If you're unwilling to answer, I can't force you. I'll find the answer myself."
The Observer's gaze swept over the Lamp God, noting its earlier hesitation and subsequent schadenfreude.
"You've been sealed in that lamp for countless ages. Aren't you curious about this question? Or have you lost the ability to observe external changes?" the Observer taunted.
The Lamp God coldly retorted, "I'm laughing at your childish fixation on trivial matters, treating minor issues as major breakthroughs. Isn't that amusing?"
"Oh? Do you have any insights to share?" the Observer asked, softening his tone. "If you can answer my questions, I might let you out of that lamp for some fresh air."
"No need," the Lamp God replied haughtily. "Consider it an act of kindness to satisfy your ignorant curiosity. It's not exactly a well-kept secret."
The High-Dimensional Observer waited patiently for the Spirit's explanation, unfazed by its attitude.
The Lamp God then revealed the possible relationship between the Ancient Sun God and Adam.
"It's natural for fathers and sons to share similarities. It would be stranger if they didn't resemble each other at all."
The High-Dimensional Observer murmured, "I see," appearing to accept this explanation. However, internally, he remained skeptical. Having encountered Amon, another child of the Ancient Sun God, he hadn't experienced the same peculiar feeling he got from Adam.
Adam was different from Amon, despite their brotherhood. Perhaps the fallen Ancient Sun God had entrusted Adam with an extraordinary task or left some contingency within him. This could explain the Observer's sense of unease.
A loving father and son? Unlikely. Their relationship was probably far from simple.
"Indeed, this isn't particularly secret," the True Creator commented nonchalantly. "The traitors know this history better than anyone."
"Too bad you can't seek revenge on the Eternal Blazing Sun anymore," the Supernova Dominator interjected. "Although He tried to trap me in His divine kingdom, He ultimately overestimated Himself."
The Lamp God scoffed, "Don't boast. Your avatar couldn't have escaped that divine kingdom without decades of effort. By the time you got out, you'd have missed all the action."
"The traitors' miserable fate brings me no joy," the True Creator replied.
"No worries, there's still the Lord of Storms. I've always disliked Him. If you need an ally, I'd be glad to help," the High-Dimensional Observer offered opportunely.
It seemed the Observer had truly set himself against the Lord of Storms, Hastur silently observed. He had witnessed the love-hate relationship between the two, and the Lord of Storms likely never imagined that a single lightning strike in Backlund would earn him such a formidable adversary.
"I wouldn't mind your assistance if needed," the True Creator responded.
After some casual conversation, the Mother Tree of Desire briefly mentioned the Southern Continent's invasion of the Fenapotte Kingdom.
The High-Dimensional Observer and the Lamp God showed no interest, but the Primordial Hunger's eyes widened with intrigue.
"The Fenapotte Kingdom is the Earth Mother's primary base of faith," the Mother Tree of Desire noted, glancing at the indifferent everNight Goddess. "It seems your relationship with the Earth Mother isn't as close as one might think."
"Did you expect me to say I'd sacrifice everything, even my life, for the Earth Mother?" the everNight Goddess countered.
"I don't believe you'd calmly watch the Fenapotte Kingdom fall."
"Even if the Earth Mother suffers greatly, you can't solely claim the authority of the Crimson Moon."
"At least I'd have one less competitor."
"You'd lose a collaborator instead."
The Mother Tree of Desire understood the everNight Goddess's implication. Without the Earth Mother's alliance, confronting the Fallen Mother Goddess would be challenging. The Earth Mother's non-human pathway belonged to the Fallen Mother Goddess, and if the Earth Mother fell, the Fallen Mother Goddess would benefit most.
A strengthened Fallen Mother Goddess would pose an even greater threat to the Mother Tree of Desire .
This logic was simple, yet the Mother Tree of Desire still refused to cooperate with the Earth Mother. Just as a tiger wouldn't ally with ants to fight an elephant, only fellow predators like lions could be the tiger's companions.
"I almost forgot, you possess the uniqueness of that War God. You, too, desire conflict," the Mother Tree of Desire remarked.
This time, the everNight Goddess remained silent. The True Creator redirected the conversation to the Cosmos, "What's your view on this war?"
"Adam will ascend to godhood," Hastur replied, subtly warning the True Creator against probing him.
"Adam?" the High-Dimensional Observer's interest piqued. "No wonder I haven't encountered Him lately. He's been preparing for ascension."
"What, thinking of causing some trouble? Like disrupting His ascension ritual?" the Lamp God goaded, eager for drama.
"An intriguing idea, but I sense I can't prevent Adam's ascension. It aligns with the current era's trajectory," the Observer lamented. "If I could truly enter the Primal Barrier, I'd certainly try to defy this so-called trend of the times."
The Mother Tree of Desire and the Supernova Dominator exchanged glances but offered no further comments on the war.
Hastur, noting their silence, declared the Cosmic Assembly concluded.
As the others departed, Hastur remained to review the night's discussions.
The everNight Goddess's attitude was indeed suspicious. Although friendship among deities was often illusory, Hastur felt the everNight Goddess wouldn't idly watch the Earth Mother's downfall. Their relationship seemed closer than mere allies—more like best friends or sisters.
Of course, it was possible the everNight Goddess was truly cold-hearted, allowing the Earth Mother to perish.
Perhaps the everNight Goddess wanted Loen to join the war, but the Lord of Storms and Steam God disagreed.
Letting the Earth Mother fall would effectively weaken the everNight Goddess's faction, from their perspective.
Although they were allies in some matters, it didn't preclude mutual wariness. The strong bond between the everNight Goddess and Earth Mother had made the other four orthodox gods uneasy.
If Loen didn't commit to the war, Segar, Lenburg, and Masin wouldn't rush to participate either. As the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, they surely understood how to preserve themselves and choose sides.
After pondering for a while, Hastur conjured a world map on the Hall of Stars's table, contemplating potential future battle scenarios.
"Should I take a glimpse at the Fenapotte Kingdom's fate?" Hastur hadn't used his ability to peer into destiny for a long time.
With his current capabilities, aided by the Hall of Stars, he should be able to glimpse the outcome of this event.
