Summoning

She woke up blinded, shaking her head trying to get sight back to her ice blue eyes. While she was shaking her head. Trying the recall everything that had brought her to this point all that she could recall was the fact that right before the blinding light she was sitting at her seat trying to finish her research project. Then was the feeling that she was on a bullet train, g-forces pulled her down to her face as she was pulled somewhere. She had no idea what could have pulled her down, she worked frequently enough nothing short of a full grown man slamming into the back of her should be able to knock her down.

"Oh Hero," a voice called out deep and calming," We have summoned you to this world to drive out the darkness that is coming forth from the dungeon..."

"Wo wo wo, there hold up," she said," very funny know but I have work to finish up I need to get back to work. Who ever set this up is funny but tell the guys I have work to do."

She stopped rubbing her eyes as she looked up for a moment. The first thing that she saw was he white and black marble floors, trimmed with gold. As she slowly continued up she saw the gilded tapestries flowing with scenes of figured standing at the forefront of massive battles, they were towering over the battlefields triumph. Higher and higher her eyes went up as she realized that she was no longer in her office, working on her project.

Finally her eyes rested on the only other person in the room. A wizened old man dressed in flowing red robes, trimmed with the thickest pure white fur that she had ever seen. His piercing green eyes were staring at her like she was the only person in the universe. In face he only non regal thing about this man was the fact that his jet black hair didn't belong on the face of a man that was as seemingly old as him.

"Our apologies Hero, We know that this place must be strange to you at first but We hope that you come to see it at home. We required someone to combat the darkness in the world that has found its way here. We have used the Ancestral Summoning Array to call you to this world of Ours to help us in our time of crisis," the man said his eyes showing a slight amount of regret.

She picked herself off the ground holding her head, dozens upon dozens of questions buzzing through her head making her question her sanity.

"Send me back, you have the wrong person," she said looking the man in the face.

"We are truly sorry, Hero but that is something simply out of our power," the man explained," We are terribly sorry but the Array only selects the strongest and most courageous of people to become the Hero. The power of the summon depends on the price that you pay and I've paid with all but the last five years of my life. All to ensure that we summoned the strongest of Heroes to ensure Our lines survives."

She stared at the man as though he had just said the stupidest thing that she ever heard replying, So what happens if the Hero solves the problem and then there's more after you die. Or what if the Hero can't complete the task?"

The man smiled,"Our successor has already been decided. We will fully put Our trust that they will continue to make sure that the people are taken care of. Furthermore there has never been a Hero that has been unable to complete the task of sealing the darkness."

"And if I refuse to help."

"This has never happened in all of the time that the Summoning has occurred. The Hero's come from worlds with no magic but with the ability to do amazing things with it bring new spells about and ensure that they have every talent that they need to finish the sealing. We will allow you to do as you please though, but know this if you do not deal the darkness countless people with suffer and perish."

"So I can either live my life as I choose or be forced to live a live that is slavery," she said fury pouring out of her eyes," I'm a slave to date at this point to make sure that your world is safe while being ripped out of my life and everything I know."

The man looked at her sorrow in his eyes as he raised his hand up responding," Hero this was never my intent but if the Array summoned you We have no doubt in Our minds that you would refuse to allow the people to suffer when you can stop it."

She slide her hands up her head pushing her flowing brown hair out of her eyes. The fury slowly subsiding as she took a few deep breaths, trying to make sense of this situation. She was in a different world summoned against her will, Magic was real and apparently there was some sort of a darkness she was being made to seal.

"Hero now might not be the time to rush into things but we will begin your training as soon as you would like. There is still time before the darkness is completely unsealed and we are forced to charge into the dungeon," the man said taking a step closer to her with his arms still raised to show her he means no harm.

"Not now," she said looking at him putting a hand in front of her to stop his approach," I'll need a few days to adjust and to asses the situation that is affecting the area before I make any plans. Also I'll have to make sure that you aren't hiding anything from me."

"We swear on our source itself the root of our magic that, we Angus Longmont The Third Emperor of the Drago Empire, will never knowing lie to the Hero or do anything that would lead them astray in this world or the next." Angus said

As he began talking power began to fill the room and lightning crackling around his fingers. He slowly reached out electricity arching between her hands and his as his palm touched her outstretched hand. A bolt of lightning pulled through their hands as she was forced back several steps and almost tumbled over.

She stood up trying to gain her bearings as her head felt as though it was going to split in half saying," What the hell was that."

Angus looked at her knowingly," That was a oath sworn on the magic source in my body. If We are to ever break it Our power will leave us immediately and we will never be able to cast even the simplest of spells. Also it is the best way to ensure that someone is never to do you harm or cause you ill will."

She went to rub her temples again trying to make sure that she wasn't going to faint from the amount of irritation that this so called Emperor was causing her.

"Next time you feel the need to do any magic or anything that will hit me like a bare hand boxer again, feel free to make sure that I get a little bit of a warning."

Angus looked at her apologetically looking at her remembering that she was not used to the use of magic saying,"Hero..."

She threw up her hand stopping the regal emperor in his tracks," Stop this Hero nonsense, the name is Jerilyn."
