2 The Start of a Long Day

{P.O.V. Jennifer Ross}

Hearing an annoying beeping sound, I peel my eyes open. It was the sound of my alarm clock going off. Telling me, it was time for another long day of work. Turning my alarm off, it was once again 6:00 a.m. peeling myself from my cozy bed.

Walking straight into the kitchen to start the coffee pot. Looking across the living room, I notice a cowgirl hat on my best friend doorknob. She only does that when her boyfriend comes over to stay the night. In fact, it's our way of letting each other know. We're about to have sex and not to enter.

In this case, it almost every night for her, rolling my eyes in annoyance. It not like I hate the guy because I don't. It's a fact she got an amazing relationship, and I have no one, romantic wise. I have always been the kind of girl who dreams about true love and fairytale-like endings. I have dated a few men, but none of them was the right one.

After drinking a coffee and eating eggs with toast, I get dressed and head out for my morning jog. Stepping out of my apartment building main doors. It was lightly raining; it didn't bother me, though, because it was just another wet day in Seattle.

Getting back home around 7:15, Cassidy, my best friend, and roommate. She is cooking food in the kitchen while her boyfriend Taylor was watching the t.v.

"Well, hello stranger, how was your jog?" Cassidy asks

"Not too bad; how was your steamy night?" Asking back while taking a water bottle from the fridge. Turning back around, Cassidy's face was completely red. While Taylor just gave me are-you-seriously-asking kind of look. It didn't bother me, though; to me, sex was a natural thing. I don't know why? Or understand why? Most people get flustered by talking about it.

"That good, huh? Well, I'm going to take a shower now." Leaving them, I headed into the bathroom.

Turning the water on and stripping my jogging clothes off. Stepping into the shower and letting the hot water wash away the sweat. It wasn't a long relaxing shower; it was quick and hurry kind. I got to be at work at eight a clock sharp. I can't even be one second late.

Which is understandable when you're the secretary. Of one of the most wealthy companies here in Seattle. Not just any ordinary secretary but the secretary to the CEO. That right, I am the secretary to the CEO of Ryan's Corporate.

Getting out of the shower and wrapping a towel around myself. Brushing my teeth real quick and also blow-drying my hair. Exiting the bathroom, Cassidy and Taylor was nowhere in sight. Entering my room as quickly as possible, noticing the time hurrying to get dressed. Black pencil skirt, silky grey blouse, black tights, and grey high heels. Putting my hair up in a bun and putting on some makeup. Grabbing my black jacket, black backpack, and my purse and out the door to work.

Paying the cab driver and getting out. A tall, beautiful, black, and gray building stood before me. With words, Ryans Corporate. Walking in through the front doors and heading to the elevators. The building looks like any normal modern building. Light grey walls, white marble floors, black and silver furniture, and light brown wooden tables. They're also a lot of windows, letting a lot of light in the building.

Entering the elevators, a small group of girls was whispering in the corner. Talking about the guys here in the building and what department they're in. The one guy they mostly talked about was Kendrick Ryans, the CEO. Just the mention of him makes my eyes roll in the back of my head. That's all most of the girls here do. Is talk about wanting to be his girlfriend or anything they can fantasize about.

Not me, though; unlike the other girls, I don't have a huge crush on my boss. I won't deny that he is hot and sexy looking. But when you work close to him as I do. You get to know the guy a little better than most. He's rude and arrogant, not to mention a huge player. In other words, his another spoiled rich boy.

The elevator doors open, letting the girls off and take me up to the top floor. When the doors opened to my floor, the walls were a navy blue with white cream color furniture and dark wood tables. A small waiting room sat in front of my half circle desk. There only two doors on the top floor, the CEO office, and a conference room. Looking at my watch, it was 8:01, cursing at myself for being one minute late. I have never been late in the two years I have worked here. Besides once and Mr. Ryans ranged my ass for it. Taking a seat at my desk, hoping Mr. Ryans hasn't shown up yet.

After taking my seat, the elevator dings. An older looking man steps out. He has short grey hair, a clean shave, white skin, chocolate brown eyes, and a clean and crisp suit on. He is the former CEO of Ryans Corporate, also Kendrick Father. Standing up quickly and welcoming him.

"Good morning, Sir." Welcoming him politely.

"Is my son in yet?" He asks a little rudely. To answer that question is... I have no idea. But I couldn't tell him that now can I? "Well, speak up, girl."

"I can call in to his office to let him know you're here." Trying my hardest not to sound unsure if his son was here or not.

"Are you telling me you don't know?" He says a little more intimidatingly. Right as he says the words, the elevator doors open up again.

This time a young man steps out; he was tall, about 6 ft, 3 inches. Short black raven-colored hair, clean shave, bright sea-blue eyes, white skin, and muscular body. He has a tattoo that runs down the left side of the neck. Both ears were pierced with white diamond studs in them.

"Quit harassing my secretary, Father." The young man says with a deep voice.

"Good morning, Mr. Ryans." Greetings, the young man.

"Good morning, Miss Ross," Kendrick says back. "And what is it that owe for this pleasant visit?Father?"

"We need to talk Kendrick about some personal manners. Personal things that I don't think a secretary should hear." He says it like I'm beneath him. The tension between the two was indescribably tense.

"Of course not; step right into my office." Both old and young Mr. Ryans step in the CEO office. Once the door closes, my body slumps down into my office chair. Letting out a deep breath, I didn't realize I was holding in from the tension.

Continuing with my morning, I get some work done. Filing, taking phone calls, making appointments, rescheduling appointments, and typing on the computer. While doing all this, both Father and Son were yelling at each other. Glancing at the time, it was 10:35; they have been arguing for almost three hours. Stapling some papers together, the phone rings.

"Mr. Ryans office, this is Jennifer speaking. How can I help you?" Answering politely.

"Jennifer darling, it is Mrs. Ryans. How are you today, sweetie?" The older woman's voice answers back.

"I'm doing just fine, Mrs. Ryans. How about you?."

"I'm doing splendid, is my husband there by any chance?"

"Yes, ma'am, he is. Would you like me to send you on through?"

"That would be perfect, thank you, Jennifer."

"Your welcome, ma'am." With ending our conversation and sending her over to Mr. Ryans's office phone. I always have like Mrs. Ryans; she treats me kindly, unlike two other certain Ryans.

Going back to do my work, not even after 5 minutes of sending her over. The yelling stops with an angry older Mr. Ryans stomping out, Standing up quickly.

"Have a good day, Sir." Telling him politely, he didn't say anything back. Just head straight to the elevators.

"Miss Ross!" Mr. Ryans yells for me. Oh, boy, does he sound mad quickly, scrambling into his office. I was not too fond of it when his father came around. Only because of the fact he becomes a bigger asshole.

"Yes, Sir?" Trying to keep the anxiety down. He was standing in front of the window, looking outside.

"My Father will be sending some paperwork over later. Staple the correct paperwork together and put them with. Their own file folders and names. I expect it to be on my desk by tomorrow morning." He commands.

"Yes, Sir, anything else I can do for you, Sir?"

"Order lunch; I want Chinese and call Kelly. Tell her to meet me here at seven." He rudely said without giving me the chance to ask questions.

"Of course, Mr. Ryans." Walking to the door out of his office.

"Oh, Miss Ross." Turning back around, he was looking at me.

"Yes, Sir?" My voice almost cracking from the intimidation that coming off him.

"Do we need to have the being late conversation again?" Keeping his eyes locked on mine.

"No, Sir, it won't happen again."

"Good, that's all, Miss Ross." Leaving his office fast as I could scramble with closing the door behind me. Taking a deep breath from the density in there. Heading back to my desk, I call Kelly his Thursday night fling.
