31 Pent Up Anger

{P.O.V Jennifer Ross-Ryans}

Its been a week since we found out the gender of our baby. Now we have to let his family know what the gender of our baby is. It took me all week to encourage Kendrick to do so. Every time I bring up the topic, he would kind of brush it off. That was until I convinced him that he had to let them know. He agreed, and even though he agreed, he still seems off like, which makes me wonder whats his thinking and feeling. I guess I will find out once we get to his parent's house. Liz has planned out a nice Sunday dinner tonight for us for the news of the baby gender.

Getting to the house, Braxton pulls up to the front sidewalk. Kendrick gets out and opens my door for me, and helps me out of the car. Taking my hand in his, we walk to the door then he knocks on the door.

"Are you alright?" Asking Kendrick, he looked a little nervous mixed with something else.

"I'm fine." He says bluntly, then lets out a deep breath.

"Are you sure?"

"Jennifer.." He gives a polite warning.

"Alright, I will drop it." The front door opens.

"Hello, Jennifer darling." Liz coos as she opens the door and gives me a small hug.

"Hi, Liz," Greeting back.

"Kendrick, dear." She hugs her son and gives him a small peck on the cheek.

"Hi, mom," Kendrick replies.

"Well, come in. It kind of chilly tonight." Going inside, the maid takes our coats. "Everyone in the living room having before dinner drinks."

Following her in, Nate and his wife greeted us, and we greeted them back. Nate children were not here though Josephine said that the babysitter was taking care of them tonight. Kendrick's father even greeted us, which is odd for a man like him. After some small talk and a few before dinner drinks, dinner was finally served. Everyone went into the dining room and sat down. Dinner looked wonderful tonight as it normally does every time I have dinner over here. After dinner, we were all waiting for dessert. While doing so, we were having a pleasant conversation that was until Kendrick's Father said something.

"Enough of this pleasant talk and just tell us what the gender of the child is," Rons said impatiently.

"Ron.." Liz scolds him.

"Don't Ron me Liz after all, this is what this whole dinner is about, is it not?" Liz didn't say another word and just nodded her head, a little unhappy. "Tell me the gender."

"Female," Kendrick says, watching him; he looked like he was a little intimidated by his Father. Which kind of shocked me that a man like him could be intimidated.

"An Heiress?" Ron asks. It was hard to read his emotion.

"Yes."

"Well, that wonderful I cant wait to meet her.." Liz coos.

"Just hold that thought, Liz," Ron says. Liz, stop what she was about to say. The thing he says next absolutely shocked me and kind of hurt me. "An Heiress can not run the Ryans business. For generations, it has always been run by a male heir. Not once has a female heir run it, and I will be damned if I break this tradition now. I told you, Kendrick, that you had to married someone of the higher class to keep this tradition. Someone that could have given you a male heir. Instead, you had to rebel against me and married this low-class woman, which gave you a female heir. Suppose you would have just worked things out with Lucia and married her. Had Zach instead of Nolan, this wouldn't have happened!"

"Couldn't marry her, and I couldn't let Zach be my COO!" Kendrick snaps back at him. Liz was trying hard to get the two boys to stop fighting, but they wouldn't listen to her. The rest of us sat there quietly, listening to them.

"Why in the hell not?! I have been real patience with you, Kendrick, to understand why you broke the deal and plan that was made all those years ago!" Ro stands up, and then Kendrick stands up too.

"Because she chose Zach over me!"

"What the hell are you talking about!?"

"I mean, I went home. I found her fucking my best friend!" Looking at everybody's faces, they looked shocked. "That is the big secret that everybody wants to know!" After Kendrick said that, Liz had Nate, Josphine, I, and herself leave the dining room and sit in the living room.

"Why didn't you just tell me!?" I could hear Ron ask has I left the dining room.

"Because you were the one that taught me not to show my emotions! You were the one that taught me that men like us couldn't let our emotions get in the way! That it was better not have them at all!" After hearing that, it broke my heart, even more to know that his own father would want him to be that way.

The rest of the evening, they continue to yell and talk about more things. Not only were they yelling at each other, but I could also tell that what they said to each other was filled with pent-up anger over the years. Liz tried hard to distract all of us with different subjects. I think it was her way of trying hard not to get in the middle of their fight.

"I think it is great that I broke the tradition that has run in our family for generations. For fuck sakes, father, it's the 21st-century female heirs or just females in general run companies or small business all the time. If my little girl wants these companies, then I will let her run them. As for my wife, you will respect her. It doesn't matter where she comes from. All that does matter is that this woman right here is who I have chosen. Nolan is my best friend; he has been even before Zach even came around! I'm glad it's him instead of Zach, and I am damn proud that Jennifer is my wife instead of Lucia. If you can't accept that, then I guess we don't need to come around here anymore!" Kendrick yells at his father.

"I think that would be wise if you didn't!" Ron says, heartless.

"Fine by me." Kendrick walks into the living and stands up in front of me and holds his hand out. "Come on, Jennifer, let's go home." Kendricks tells me sweet as he can." Thank you, mom, for dinner, and I apologize for our fighting. Nate, it was good to see you same as you, Josephine."

Taking Kendrick's hand, we leave the living room and grab our coats from the coat rack by the front door. Then we leave the house and got in the car and left. The ride home was tranquil Kendrick stared out the window. I could see that he was lost in his own thoughts and emotions right now, which was alright. I had my own thoughts and feelings about what has been said.

Later on, that night, waking up, it was 1:00 A.m. Kendrick hasn't even come to bed yet. Crawling out of bed, I go looking for him. Finding him in his home office, he was sitting at the desk reading something on the computer. Walking through the door, he looks up and leans back in his chair, and takes his reading glasses off.

"Hey, I thought you were in bed," Kendrick says

"Well, I was until I realized that you weren't there." Telling him and sitting on his lap.

"Sorry, time slipped away from me." Wrapping his arm around my waist.

"It's alright..." He lightly smiles at me. "There something I want to talk to you about?"

"What's going on?"

"earlier tonight at your parent's house, I heard some of the things you and your father were arguing about..."

"And?.."

"I want to say that... That... If I'm a problem, then I can leave. I don't want you are father's relationship worst than it already is because of me and.."

"Jennifer, stop," Kendrick cuts me off as he sits up in the chair. Looking me straight in the eyes. "Your not a problem, and for my relationship with my father, it's been shitty even before you came along. My father is a very prideful man; he was raised differently. The way he was raised, he has a hard time with change. He will come around eventfully. He needs time to accept the change. Alright?"

"What if he doesn't come around?"

"Then I meant what I said earlier at my parent's house. He doesn't need to be involved in our lives. I love you, Jennifer, and our unborn child; I will do anything for you guys."

"I know you would."

"Then believe in me when I say I won't let my father tear us apart just because of what he said tonight."

"I believe that too."

"Good, now you really should get back to bed. It good for pregnant women to get plenty of sleep."

"Only if you come to bed with me."

"I can do that." He gives me a small smile. Holding me in a bridal style, he stands up getting off his chair and carries me to our bedroom, and we end up having sex.
