6 An Opportunity

{P.O.V. Jennifer Ross}

The last three weeks have been long with working late hours. Also trying to find a new property that I can build my dream B&B on. Every property I look at, none of them had that welcoming and romantic feeling. Except for one and the thing about this property, it is out of my price range. The only way I could afford it is if I came into a fortune. Why is life so hard sometimes?

Buttoning up my white blouse and putting on a dark grey pencil skirt. Placing my hair in a messy bun and stepping into some dark grey heels. Grabbing my purse, I head out of my room to go to work. Stepping into the kitchen, I grab myself an energy drink. Work the late hours I have been working have really made me exhausted. What makes me even more exhausted is dealing with my boss. He has been on edge for the last few days making it hard to work for him.

Stepping out the front door, I get a cab to the office. The best thing about the office on a Saturday is nobody there. I also don't have to be at work till 12:00 p.m. the cab pulls in front of the building. Paying the man his money, and stepping out of the cab and head inside the building. The moment I step out of the elevator onto the top floor. There was crack open in Mr. Ryans's office door. I could hear Kendrick and some woman yelling at each other.

"You shouldn't be marrying any of these girls! they will bring your company down!" The woman yells.

"Since when do you care about what I do with my life!? In the last five years, we have never seen each other or even contacted each other! Now that I have become a bigger threat to your husband's business, you come here like you care!"

"I do care about you, Kendrick!"

"You made your choice! You don't get the right to care anymore! Leave my building, and don't come back!"

The door opens with a bang, and a furious and attractive blonde storm out. You could tell she was of someone from the high class. She didn't even give me one look; she storms out and leaves without another word. Just the look of her and their conversation, I could tell she was never one of Kendrick one night flings.

"Miss Ross," Kendrick says, my name. Pulling my attention away from the woman, he was standing at his office door. "When the first interview gets here. Give me ten minutes before you send her in."

"Yes, Sir." Answering back. He goes into his office with his door, giving a bang. Not as loud as the woman, but enough, you know he was upset.

It's 9:00 clock at night, getting ready to leave from work. Mr. Ryans comes outs of his office.

"Miss Ross, can I talk to you?" He asks politely

"Of course, sir." Walking into his office. Almost sitting down in front of his desk, he makes a grunting sound. Looking over towards him, he was gesturing towards the small living room space. Taking a seat on one of the couches, he sits across from me.

"As you know, I have been interviewing with a bunch of different women. These interviews are to help me find a wife. The thing about most of these women is there, not what I'm looking for in a wife. These women want a chance of romance with me and love. The thing is I don't want that; instead, I want a woman that willing to have a sexual relationship with me but also a business one." Mr. Ryans says seriously.

"Kind like the relationship you have with your week girls, sir?" Asking him. Where is he going with this? Does he want me to help him find a wife?

"Kind of, but it will be slightly different. Where this woman will be my wife, I will only be with her, faithfully and loyal."

"How many years do you need to be married?"

"This woman and I would have to be married for two years. In the first year of our marriage, she has to give me an heir to my family companies. It doesn't matter when she gets pregnant as long as she gets pregnant that year. After the second year of marriage, if they choose to leave the marriage, there will be a divorce. If that is the case, then both of us will have custody of the child." He gets up and walks over to a drink bar, and pours two glasses of liquor. Then he walks back and hands me a glass. Taking the glass and taking a sip, he sits down and leans back against the couch, with his right leg on top of his left leg.

"You said you wanted a business like a relationship? what do you mean, sir?"

"If she is willing to do all this for me, then, of course, I will give her something in return."

"What will you give her in return?"

"Whatever she truly desires." He takes a drink.

"I see, and have you found this woman yet?"

"Yes, but she not of high-class blood; instead, she is better than those high-class women in many ways." Why do I feel like he's talking about me?

"And who is this woman?" Asking while trying not to choke on my own words. Not in disgust but in feeling surprised. He places his glass on the table and leans forward with his elbows resting on his legs.

"I have chosen you, Jennifer; I want to have this marriage with you. I don't expect an answer right now; you have a week to give me your answer. I also don't want you to feel pressured. I want you to say yes because you want this, not because I'm our boss. If you choose not to, then things will continue as they were with no grudges." I feel like I can't breathe, but not because I like him because of what he has asked. He stands in front of me, giving me his hand. Taking his hand, he helps me up. With our bodies almost pressed up against each other.

"Breath Jennifer... I expect you to give me an answer by the end of the week. I had a cab called for you. I will see you here on Monday." Handing him back his glass and taking my hand back. Walking towards the door. "Goodnight, Jennifer."

"Goodnight, Kendrick." Stopping in the doorway, slightly turning my head back. After telling him goodnight, I hurry my way home.

Rushing into my apartment, closing the door with my body pressed against the door. Trying to get my thoughts in order.

"Hey, Jenna, how was work tonight?" Cass asks. Looking at Cass, she was sitting on the couch, watching a movie while eating popcorn. Hurrying to sit next to her taking her hands in mine. She looked a little concerned.

"You are never going to guess what happened tonight at work?" Telling her exactly what Mr. Ryans said to me. After telling her everything, she stayed quiet. "Cass, say something. I really need your advice right now."

"Honestly, Jenna, If it were me, I would take up the offer." She says.

"What!?" Yelling in surprise.

"Think about it; not only do you get to be married to the hottest bachelor in Seattle. But in return, you give him what he wants, and you also can get what you want. The thing you want most is your dream of having a bed and breakfast inn, and you can't afford it, Jenna. Even though he is a complete ass, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. An Opportunity to get what you want, and he can give it to you... Who knows, maybe this is your chance of finding your happily ever after like you have always dreamt. Or maybe not, maybe it's just life giving you a chance to grab what you want most. But you won't know unless you give it a try." I didn't even know what to say; besides, I felt a little betrayed that she wants me to do this. "Give it some thought, Jenna. If you do choose to, then make him earn you."

"I need to get to bed," Cass says while looking at the kitchen clock. Looking back at me, she squeezes my hands. "Just think about it, okay?"

Nodding my head, she gets up and heads to bed. Getting off the couch, I head towards the bathroom to take a long shower. While in the shower, I was coming up with a plan to make Kendrick Ryans chase me. To see how much he truly wants me as his wife.
