31 Evil In Everything

Noah limped to sit beside Ava as the painkillers started kicking in. He had an idea of what Ava's father might have done to her, but he wasn't absolutely sure, and he didn't know if he wanted to know all the things he had done. Based on what Mat did a few minutes ago, he could make out how bad of a father he was. But what stuck with him the most was the fact that Ava said that he had changed, was there something he was hiding from them? Noah can tell an alcoholic when he sees one, but when he looked at her Dad, he was definitely sober, which confused him as when he saw how aggressively he grabbed Ava, he was sure that there was something else for him to act like that.

"Ava, can I ask you a question?"

Ava slowly shifted making eye contact with him and sighed, "I already know what you're going to ask. You want to know what happened between me and my Dad."

The silence was all that Ava needed to confirm her assumption.

"You know he wasn't all that bad as he is now. I'm not excusing all the times he hurt me, mentally and physically, but I prefer him being his old self than this dominant person. He has been very...violent in the house. Kicking things and throwing stuff around."

They both looked at each other as tears filled Ava's eyes. She looked away trying not to cry, but she couldn't stop the tears from running down her face. Noah pulled her in for a hug as she cried into his chest, trying to let out all the pain that has built up in her heart.

"My Dad has changed a lot," she said between sobs.

"He's not the same person he was before. I don't care if he's hurt or if he's going to come after me, I want him to know how much pain I've gone through and all the evil he's caused. I hate feeling this much pain," she finished.

A few minutes after Ava cried, Noah finally got the strength to ask her the real question.

"Where did you get that scar from?"

Ava's body rapidly stiffened, and she started fidgeting with her fingers. He could feel her trembling in his arms.

"Hey, it's okay. We don't have to talk about it."

She shook her head as she took deep slow breaths and remained silent for a few seconds before speaking again. She explained everything to him about that cursed night where her father had hurt her. At the end of it all Ava could tell that Noah was mad, but she saw him calm down and she was happy that things didn't intensify from there. He hugged her again and apologized for pressuring her to say it.

She looked up at him and put one hand on his cheek, "No, no, no. Don't apologize for that. I chose to tell you because I trust you."

They looked into each other eyes as they leaned in closer, but Ava quickly moved away and awkwardly coughed. Noah got up and moved away from the sofa, looking at Ava who seemed uncomfortable. He cursed at himself regretting doing that.

"Umm... do you want me to call your mom so you two can talk?"

"No, I want to find out the truth first about my Dad," she answered.

"Okay. I've been thinking and is it a possibility that your Dad might be part of the Twisted Sisterhood?"

"By the way he's acting it could be true. From what we read, the leader is human and could be either male or female."

"So, it could be anyone?"

Ava groaned and held her head in her hands, "Yea."

"So, we can just spy on your Dad for a few weeks and see if he does anything suspicious and then we can decide what to do from there."

"I can ask Lucas for the address... wait, Lucas!

Ava quickly got up and ran up to his room as Noah tried catching up. She looked everywhere, but nothing seemed out of place.

"What's wrong?" Noah asked out of breath.

"I haven't seen Lucas in a while. Actually, he hasn't come home since he left with my Mat, and my Dad hasn't taken anything from his room. All his clothes are here and haven't been touched."

"He could have been taken!" Ava panicked.

Lucas' room had nothing abnormal in it, but Ava was determined that her Dad must have left something behind by accident.

"Ava, calm down. Call your mom and ask her if she's seen Lucas recently."

Ava nodded and called her mom. She had asked if she's seen Lucas any of these days, but Lucia hadn't seen him as she had been busy. Ava hangs up the phone and starts pacing around the room, trying to think of what to do. Noah sat at the corner of Lucas' bed, looking around to see if they had missed anything. His bedroom was much different to all the other rooms in the house. She couldn't just go over to her Dad's house, because if he were the leader, she would be in so much danger.

"Noah, I have to master all of this powers. It's the only way."

"I know Ava, but it will take time."

"We don't have time! Look, I don't particularly love my brother, but he's still my brother, and I have to do get him back no matter what."

All that was running her mind was Lucas, and the danger he was going to put in. For once, Ava had a different mission than saving her best friend, she had to save her brother too, and that drove her to want to find out more and hopefully stop it all once and for all.
