32 A Little Bit of Action

Ava and Noah sat at the dining table, figuring out ways to save Lucas. Ava couldn't concentrate much, but she had to hold everything in and not break down for the sake of her brother. She started regretting all the times they had argued and all the things he told her. He was still young, and all he wanted was a father like the rest of his friends. She held her head in her hands and looked down, trying to figure everything out. She suddenly felt a hand rubbing her back.

"Everything will be okay, we will work things out, don't worry."

"What if it's too late. I can't lose him now," Ava said, trying to hold back tears.

"You're not going to, we're going to figure out something to get him back, okay?"

She nodded as she took a deep breath. Then suddenly she thought of something.

"We could put cameras around his house, so we can work out where Lucas is and whether Mat is the leader," she stated.

"That's way too dangerous, Ava."

"Come on, we're already this far into it we might as well continue. And if we manage to stop this cult, we might find al the lost kids and no child will ever go missing again."

"Yea, you've got a point there. But if we're going to do this, we can't be planning all our stuff here; someone could find it," Noah pointed out.

"True, but where else could we go?"

"I know a place. We could check it out right now if you want," he suggested.

Ava confidently nodded and packed all their plans and things they might need in a duffle bag. They began making their way to an abandoned house, which didn't look as bad as the rest. The house didn't seem old, it just had a few overgrown leaves surrounding it.

"Is this the place?" Ava asked

"Yup, sometimes I come here just to give me a different aspect to things."

"Interesting," Ava spoke as she walked towards the main door.

They stepped inside and looked around. It was quite a big building with many rooms; each step they took echoed through the house.

"No-one has attempted to enter this house as there are rumours that this place is haunted. So, no-one would come in here which means we can use it to our own desires," Noah explained.

"It could use some improvements. It could be our own base!"Ava gleefully shouted, "But first we have to work out what we're going to do with the situation we have now."

"There's a store that sells surveillance cameras a few streets away. But now the hard part is how we are going to get them around the house."

"I'll distract Mat and tell him to meet me somewhere whilst you set the cameras around the house. Then we can watch what he does for the next week or so and hopefully it gives us clues as to where he kept Lucas."

As they were heading out of the building, they saw people passing by looking oddly at them. They ignored them and walked to the shop where they would get their things. They walked into the shop and to the things they needed, as they were paying the cashier looked at them.

"What could you possibly need this for?" he asked.

"Nothing that you should know of," Noah answered.

"I don't think your father would be happy to hear about what you guys could be possibly doing," he exclaimed.

Ava looked shocked at him, "he's not my father."

"Be careful. Nothing goes unknown without your father knowing."

Ava grabbed the things she bought and stomped out of the shop as Noah tried catching up to her with his crutches.

"Ava, I think we should be more careful about who we trust."

She hesitated before agreeing with him. They couldn't trust anyone anymore unless they proved themselves to her. They returned to the abandoned house and went over the plan again to make sure nothing goes wrong.

"Ava... Be careful. You don't know what type of person he is."

"Noah, don't worry. I'll be fine. Nothing bad can happen, and I have my powers."

Noah started doubting what they were about to do, but he had to get on with it. It was the only way. He hugged her and hoped they would find something or else this would have just been a waste of time. They parted ways and went to their positions for the plan to begin.

Ava had texted her Dad earlier to ask him to meet her at the local coffee shop to talk, and he accepted. This would get him away from the house for a while for Noah to do his job. As Ava waited at the table, he saw him walking towards her and sat down opposite her.

"Took you long enough," Ava stated.

"I had to take care of some things."

Ava got up from her seat and looked at him, "I need to go to the bathroom, I'll be right back."

She walked to the bathroom and locked herself in one of the cubicles. She took her phone out and texted Noah telling him Mat was with her, so he could start setting up the cameras. When she received an affirmation from him, she left the bathroom to go to join her Dad. She sat back in her seat and tried to make conversation with him, but nothing seemed to interest him.

"Stop wasting my time, Ava. Why did you want to meet? And where's Noah?"

"I just want to know where you've been all my life, as you say you are a changed man," Ava clarified.

Matt eyed Ava for a few seconds before relaxing into his seat.

"Okay, I'll tell you everything you want to know."

Ava had to keep him there for as long as possible until Noah texted her so that he wouldn't get caught. She was very determined to find out what has been going on in this crazy town of hers, and she was willing to give up everything to put a stop to it.
