3 Chapter 3

I had been hoping to make a good impression with my new neighbors and get off on the right foot, but my cooking was not the right way to go about it.

Hero knew that whenever I was in the kitchen that meant food accidently dropped and something for him to munch on. That would be why he was poised at the end of the kitchen just waiting for me to mess up.

I grabbed mince from the fridge, chopped tomatoes, onions, celery and carrots from the cupboard and herbs from the spice rack by the oven. You couldn’t go wrong with Bolognese. At least that was what my mother always told me as a girl. It had been her go-to meal whenever we had guests coming over. That or salmon, and even if I had some in the fridge, I wasn’t at all ready to attempt that.

“What are you laughing at?” I scowled at Hero who had tilted his head to one side, his ears flopping to make him look like a puppy again.
