5 Chapter I A New World - Part 5

Minutes later. Time: 23:11

Planet: Earth: Region: North America.

Day: October 21, 22,236

The two men hide among themselves in the burnt fields behind an old tree stump. There were about ten Scar creatures just about twenty feet away, a drop spaceship deployed more soldiers and left the area. A quaint unknown language the Scars spoke to each other from the distance they could both hear.

Jeremiah scratched his beard and stroked it gently all the while keeping his old shotgun in check, "What's the plan hero?"

Locus scanning the enemies ahead from inside his helmet gathered the situation and said, "You see that package on that specific creature's back? That's what refills their weapon's energy, to use it's like ammo packs we can use that to our advantage."

Jeremiah pictured what Locus was thinking, he shifted a slight smile on his upper right lip, "Is it explosive?"

Locus firmly replied, "It is."

Jeremiah opened a big smile, he was giddy with excitement, but not enough to get distracted or spotted, "I love your plan, but I can't take that shot, it's too far away."

Locus calmly stated with confidence, "I can hit it."

He adjusted his comfort as he was using the stump for stability when aiming his weaponry, he established strong concentration as if zoning everything out and only focusing on one target. Very carefully to not miss his target, he waited. Bam! Out of his assault rifle came a single golden colored bullet pellet with heat intensity of at least 250° degrees. A single line of yellow was revealed from Jeremiah's eyes as it successfully hit the package. A wide blue plasma explosion from the creature's back, demolishing him completely.

"Yee-Haw!" Jeremiah hollered as the explosion went off.

Locus and Jermiah rallied together out from the oak stump and attacked the remaining Scar creatures that survived. "On your left!" Locus told Jeremiah as two creatures were ready to plummet them both.

The shotgun was fired, damaging one of them and killing the other. He pumped the shotgun back and a shell flew away from him as he readied another shot. Bam!

Locus gun downed a bunch of targets as some were on the ground and others still available to kill. Just as he thought he killed all of them, a creature swung his energy sword at Locus intentionally to kill. But Jeremiah fired a shell into the creature before he knew what hit him. Locus and Jeremiah exchange a nod. "Whistle for your wife and children," he told him.

He whistled with his fingers and his wife and daughters came running towards him.

"Did you get them all?" His wife asked as she tightly hugged him along with his daughters hugging his legs as they couldn't reach his upper body.

"We sure did Elise." Jeremiah assured her with a passionate kiss.

"Yay daddy stopped them!" His daughter praises.

Jeremiah chuckled as he lowered himself and hugged his daughter. "Locus, we did a mighty fine job! Now let's see what kind of stuff they have been keeping, they might have coordinates of a spaceship nearby or weapons cache." He said.

The dark area was quiet. A sudden wind blew. Tree twigs broken in the distance. An owl hooting in the background. Locus was feeling uneasy, he felt this feeling before, like this very moment was being placed from the past and into the future.

A quick purple line of energy was flying from the black sky, a red outline appeared, causing more unease past them. Locus turned from the purple line from the other direction to reveal what he was seeing.

"Daddy!" the daughter cried in horror.

"No!" the wife cried out as well.

Locus was shaken up, confusion clouded his mind and sight. Unable to see what was happening, he dropped to the ground putting his hand on his helmet. Darkness flooded him, streaks of red revealed before him. His sight had returned, he looked around and saw the blast hit Jeremiah clean through the chest.

A Scar drop ship arrived suddenly out of thin air, hiding in the shadows. It was ready to kill them. Locus tried running towards the mother and daughters to protect them from the blast, but in his mind he was racing with thoughts about not being able to reach them in time.

Just when it was all over, an explosion erupted from the sky, the Scar drop ship exploded. Locus was surprised by the explosion, he stopped running towards the wife and children beside the wounded casualty.

"Need some help?" A voice radioed in.

"Who are you?" Locus questioned.

"I could ask you the same thing, but you need help right now. We'll land and we can both escape."

Locus should've been joyful as he was saved, but now was not the time for that, he went and helped Jeremiah. He examined the wound, it was a clean kill, right through the body, only blood was covering the guts from inside him. It was too late to save him. "Loc-us," he coughed and gripped Locus's hand, "Take my… Family wi-th yo-u." Jeremiah struggled to say a single word.

"Don't talk, you'll only make it worse." Locus told him.

He smiled, coughed more blood as it was rushing up from his throat. He said in his final dying words, "Tha-nk you all, I..... love you." He slipped out from this world. The wife and children wept and cried out his name.

A Militia soldier came out from the landed ship shouting for them to come closer to him, a bright white light came out from the spaceship's opening bay door.

"Elise, we need to go," Locus told her gently as he couldn't imagine what it was like leaving a loved one.

"No!" She shouted, "I'm not leaving him."

Locus felt sympathy for her, but he knew they couldn't stay there any longer "We don't have enough time! We need to leave him."

One of the daughters begged Locus, "I'm not leaving daddy!"

Locus had no choice but to drag the mother away from Jeremiah as he heard more Scar drop ships arriving from the darkness. She shouted and cursed Locus to let her go. The daughters followed the mother inside the ship as they were worried about her.

They all went inside the friendly spaceship and whisked away from the dark skies.

They flew through the grey clouds, unable to see they're surroundings, he kept hoping they wouldn't run into any more Scar ships floating around near the orbit. The ship exited the clouds and saw the bright sun beaming at him through the glass viewing.

"Nice view from here compared to on the Earth wouldn't you say?" the unknown human soldier said to them, "okay, now I need some answers from someone, who are you and where do you come from?"

"You monster!" She grabbed Locus's chest armor pulling him towards her with rage, "Locus how could you leave my husband to die there? He was supposed to come with us, we are a family. These girls have no father now that Jeremiah is dead because of you." She cried and was about to swing a punch, she screamed, "How could you-"

Locus caught her wrist tightly, trying to calm her down, "I did what I could down there! You know I would never intentionally leave him there, you heard him, he wanted me to live on and take care of you and your daughters without him because he knew he wasn't going to make it. His sacrifice will be in vain if you stayed there with your daughters you know that. Think about your daughters for a second, their lives are now in your hands, wouldn't you want them to live?!"

She was speechless, she couldn't decide whether to hate his guts or thank him, she continued crying. Her weak knees failed her, she trembled and fell to the ground. The daughters held on to her and comforted her.

"So uh you wanna explain that to me sir?" The unknown soldier asked.

"I'll tell you on the way sir, but we need to get to the Autumn spaceship," Locus told him.

"Copy that uh," he stopped.

"Locus. First Locust soldier and… Well, the only Locust soldier in fact," he stated.

"You're telling me you're a Locust soldier!? Wow this is amazing! It's an honor to meet you sir, next stop, The Autumn!" he said with a praising attitude.

They jumped into lightspeed and traveled fastily to Saturn. He took off his helmet, sat it aside, kicked back, and allowed the soldier to Manually fly to the Autumn spaceship nearby Saturn's Rings. Locus's only thoughts while traveling were of how the rest of civilization was going to respond to his arrival, and how much has changed. He stared for a minute at the grieving wife and children. He wished he could have prevented the outcome by being faster, but it is now established as to what has happened. "I'm sorry," he whispered to himself, hoping that somewhere he would hear it.
