5 Insect Control

"Ding! [Random Skill] activated!"

"Congratulations! You got [Insect Control]!"

Hearing God's voice of congratulatory I couldn't help but feel a bit of disappointment.

Skill Name: [Insect Control]

Rarity: 4 stars

Description: The ability to control insects at will. Communicating with them is also possible. Does not work with monsters way above user's level(Limited to insects only)(The initiative to communicate must come from the skill holder)

Why? Well, I kinda wished for something better to pair with Invisibility like a flying ability.

Just imagine flying while no one can see. I'll be able to go anywhere if that's the case.

It would also boost my stealthiness in some way. Previously when I fought with monsters who rather had sensitive hearings like the Dire Wolves. They were able to pinpoint my general location with just my footsteps as I moved closer to them. But with being able to fly me being exposed could be lessened and escaping would be far easier.

But I guess having the ability to control insects was fine too. I could just hide somewhere nearby and let maggots devour my enemies.

Just imagine maggots entering someone and eating him from within is terrifying and disgusting.

Alright let's not think about that anymore or else I might actually vomit sooner or later.

Let's give this skill a field test first.

..

Green Leaf Forest.

"Insects hmmm where to find one...?"

Searching for an ant or something to test [Insect Control] was just one of my purpose for coming here. My real reason for coming here is levelling up to level 10 so that I could meet the bare minimum of level to be an adventurer. Then leaving this town comes after that.

Coincidently just as I entered the forest a small butterfly wind up in front of me.

"A butterfly? Let's try this."

"[Insect Control]" Invoking the skill control I willed the butterfly to come near me. Although slowly, the butterfly eventually came closer to me and flew around as if dancing.

"It worked?"

Reaching out my hand the butterfly gracefully landed on my palm.

"So cute! Since you're colour yellow I'll call you "Daisy"

"Daisy" then flew around my hand as if celebrating.

Just then "Daisy" glowed and shortly after. The black patterns on its winges change from a simple one into a slightly complicated one. Daisy slowly grew until the glowing light faded.

After seeing Daisy released those blinding light the first word that popped out in my mind was "Evolution." After the light died out my hypothesis was indeed true as not only the patterns on its wings changed it also grew a little bit. Its wingspan was almost the size of my palm.

Daisy who was now the size of my palm flew up to my face.

I couldn't help but close my other eye remembering what my mom told me about its wings which can make one blind.

Ordering it to get away from my face and instead let it stay on top of my head.

Anyway, the whole evolution thing wasn't really new to me now. Before when I named Max the similar phenomenon happened but I thought I was just mistaken and seeing things. The change was also not that apparent. But now that I think about it I seemed to have heard monsters getting names would have a level up or something. It seems that its true.

"Since [Insect Control] works let's have my own intelligence network in the future!"

Using a bunch of insects as my ears from every place. I'm sure that no information will get pass me.

The thought of an intelligence network thrilled my heart.

Back on Earth, I've thought of establishing something like that. But that wasn't possible on Earth and it was nothing but a wishful thinking. And after coming to this world that thought resurfaced but slowly faded as the slap of reality wake me up. Intelligence network was only one of my childish thoughts but in this world, I'd surely make it come true someday.

Wait, that would take up too much effort.

Maybe living in a mansion with my future wives is a bit more relaxing.

Having a butterfly garden was fine too. There I'll let my future children roam as they please.

Ah sorry, I let my imagination run wild again.

Let's not think about the future for now and focus on the present.

"Daisy, I want you to find your insect "friends" and bring them to me."

Without delay, Daisy flew into the sea of trees and disappeared within the tree leaves.

I wanted Daisy to find a couple more insects to help search for rank-1 beasts so that I could level up to ten quickly.

I'm not worried that Daisy wouldn't be able to find me as I felt the same connection I had with Max. With it, I could roughly tell the location of Daisy and Max. I'm sure it was the same for them.

Speaking of Max, that lazy wolf didn't want to leave the room back on the inn as it continued its sleep before I left. He was getting more stubborn each day. When I first met Max it kept rubbing its head on my leg begging for me not to leave it. And after its wounds healed it begun to show its rebellious side and ignored me every time I try to take it to hunt with me.

"GYuKyuook"

Ohh, a goblin?

Quickly turning invisible and taking out a spear from the ring.

I quickly stabbed its neck.

Unlike before when I had to push the spear with all my strength just to stab it now it's relatively easier. Just have to use a bit of force than before and just like that, I can easily impale a goblin to death. I'll just have to find a weak spot then everything's a-okay.

"BEGUEYOEKKK?"

Another one? Must be its companion.

"GYAAKK"

Soon it's dying scream sounded across from quite afar asking its nearby kind for help.

If it was before then without question I would've run and escaped with every speed I could muster. Not only more goblins would come in groups other strong monsters would also be attracted and join in the fun. But that was before and my goal is to kill nine more rank-1 monsters. If I would run and hide, how could I level up to 10?

*leaves rustling.

I could hear the sounds of leaves and plants being brushed upon by the incoming monsters. Judging from the sounds the quantity of the monsters coming here were at least a dozen.

Hehehe, As if I could defeat them all.

Even fighting against a couple goblin was no easy task as they were usually hunted in groups. And no sane adventurer would fight a pack of goblins alone only I would do something as crazy as this. Maybe it was possible to fight a group of 8 goblins but fighting more than that wasn't possible. If your going to add other monsters coming here then all I could do is hide not even daring to move.

And that is my plan to hide and wait for this monsters to fight it out. Then I'll be the Oriole bird hunting a cicada or the fishermen something.

Climbing on a nearby tree I sat on its branch and waited.

Soon enough the first to come here was a group of goblins numbering about 15. Luckily, I had [Invisibility} so they weren't able to find me. But something is strange, normally a goblin's shriek would only attract 4 or 5 more goblins to come at its aide.

Clearly, a group of 15 goblins showing up here was strange. There were even 2 hobgoblins.

I've stirred the hornet's nest this time.

Honestly, stirring a real hornet's nest would've been better.

These goblins weren't even comparable to those I've hunted before. All of them were armed with crude weapons and weary armours.. There was a robed hobgoblin holding a staff to lead them. The other hobgoblin was fully armoured and a scimitar on its back.

Assuming that the robed hob is capable of using magic and the other one as its escort.

I couldn't possibly defeat them even getting near would be a problem as they were in the middle of the group.

So I have to find a way to break into their formation.

"Growl!

Mhh?!

"BiGeyeouk!?

A pack of dire wolves were circling the group of goblins. The wolves were snarling and salivating as they approached the goblins.

Finally, a wolf couldn't hold back itself and pounced on a nearby goblin.

But before it even managed to get close a fireball came out heading toward its face. Suddenly, a black shadow leapt out of nowhere and ate the fireball whole.

A rank-1 dire wolf?!?!

Hehe, Now this is fun.
