Ch 3

The skies darkened and the land visibly shook. The volcanoes in the distant lands and those that resided in the depths of the sea showed signs of erupting. The winds fiercely blew and howled, welcoming the emergence of a divine being. A glorious divine light radiates out of the orb and blinded everyone present...

Unfortunately, those events merely remained as a daydream for a certain someone.

"Next!" The cultivator asked Adel to stay behind her as he possessed a not-too-shabby inferior class spiritual roots. This means that he was accepted.

Nothing worth mentioning happened to him after that, the crystal orb did not break nor shone. There were no crepuscular rays or any other miraculous signs. He even secretly inspect the orb to see if there were any small crack. At last, failing to find anything, he walked with a somewhat pitiful gait behind the cultivator.

Adel expected this. He has always been an average since his past life. All his talents and skills relied on his so-called God Eyes, which so far he only used for predicting the future.

He sighed and thought. 'If only I have put more effort in studying cultivation methods and techniques.'

It was unfortunate that eidetic memory was not one of his God Eyes ability.

The appraisal proceeded as usual, some children did not qualify, their talent was negligible. Although sects have enormous resources at their disposal, it was simply not sufficient for everyone, only those with talents will be accepted, as in the usual cultivator troupe.

Adel have to wait until all children were tested, for now, he had to wait among enthusiastic kids who were lucky enough.

A boy, ordinary in appearance, walked calmly and stood before the glass orb. Adel knew him, his name is Jian Chen. He was a reticent and a diligent person. Like Fang Ru, he has no friends because his behavior simply doesn't fit his age.

Adel once saw him sneak out of the village at night to the forest. As a good person who respects privacy, Adel did made no fuss about it. He wondered what a boy merely at 7 would do there, he was curious, but he was too lazy to investigate.

The boy might be an incarnation of a demon lord for all he knows and might kill him if he was captured. Not that he cares anyway.

Jian Chen gently put his hands on the glass orb. Light flickered on the orb and everyone heard an audible crack wcoming from the device.

Adel's eyes widened slightly, while the female cultivator frowned and carefully examined the orb to see if it was still functioning.

"Try it again." The cultivator said and Jian Chen complied. Prismatic light steadily radiated from the orb, some light seeped out from the cracks. This time, it was the cultivator's turn to be shocked.

"T-this...Supreme Class spiritual root!"

'Fool, that is obviously a Divine Class spiritual root.' Adel chided in his mind.

The quality of spiritual roots determines the rate of qi absorption and emission. The higher the quality the faster and smoother cultivating will be. Spiritual roots are ranked in classes; Inferior Class, Superior Class, Supreme, and finally, Divine. Anything below inferior class is not worth mentioning.

A Divine Class spiritual root is rare even in the modern world. Even Adel do not know what that signifies, after all, he was busy trying to finish college and information about Divine Class spiritual roots were vague and obscure, often made by delusional people.

All he knew was that a Divine Class spiritual root could cause a crack to the measuring orb, and the prismatic light is more intense than a Superior Class.

What matters is that; the name sounds so badass...no, no.

"Alright, continue." The cultivator regained her composure and proceeded to test the remaining kids. She actually wanted to leave now and report to the elders about the gem she found. However, she's afraid of missing a potential talent. The last one to take the test proved that her decision to stay is correct. It was a little girl whose face Adel found unfamiliar, she is also a little older than his current body.

She might not be an outgoing person, Adel deduced.

Adel met her gaze and she timidly averted her eyes to the measuring orb.

"Alright, place your hand here, don't be afraid."

The girl did so and the same prismatic light radiated from the orb. The revered cultivator went into a trance.

What kind of celestial joke is this?! Two Superior Class spiritual roots in one trip?! The cultivator was already dreaming of the hefty amount of contribution points she would gain after she returned. The elders would definitely be pleased.

After a decade, their Wind and Cloud sect might rise up as the most powerful sect in the Jinha Province, and this is because of her; Xiao Wen! And the two brats!

With bloodshot eyes, she scoured the entire village for more kids. Alas, everyone had already done their part, she could not hope for another dark horse, for that would be ridiculous enough to make her faint.

The kids bid their parents farewell. Adel stood before his parents, he did not feel sad or dramatic about his departure, in contrast, his parents displayed in tears a mixture of hope and sadness.

"Father, mother, please take care." He could not think of any words to say.

"You brat, its you who needs to take care of yourself! Don't cause trouble there, and don't forget to eat!" Said his mother.

"Don't worry, you know our son, he's smart and matured. Did you see him cause any trouble before?" His father added with a somewhat lonely smile.

"Fang Ru, remember to visit us once you have free time."

"Yes, father."

"Hahaha, your way of speaking is still as steadfast. I wonder where did you learn that from. Son, do your best, and farewell."

"We will miss you."

The family of four, including the clueless little sister who was still sucking her thumb, clustered into a group hug.

Adel parted from them and went to the female cultivator along with teary eyed kids, a confident Jian Chen, and a timid girl whose name he doesn't know yet, and who constantly peeks at him subtly from the side. Adel pretended as though he didn't noticed it, but he was secretly having an inner monologue.

'Fool, you think your actions could escape mine eyes? Nothing could escape God's Eyes...no,no, I must keep my dignity!'

"Alright kids, be prepared, we are heading to the Wind and Cloud Sect! Gather around me!" The cultivator bellowed. Clouds formed at the ground and lifted them up slowly.

Soon the village got smaller and they were among the birds and clouds. Some kids had a sudden change of mind at this moment and cried for the cultivator to bring them back to the village.

"Waa, waaah! Mother!"

"Bring me back please, I don't want to go anymore waaaah!"

The cultivator gracefully ignored their pleas. It obviously wasn't her first time having encountered a situation like this. "Hmmp! You'll soon be crying tears of joy once you arrived at the sect."

Adel looked down from the clouds and saw the village looked so small. Suddenly, his ability revealed to him the future. In 5 months and 8 days, a group of armed bandits would raid this village and viciously kill every male and take every woman as captive. They will raid all houses clean, traveling down the mountain and camping by the base where their headquarter lies, enjoying their spoils.

Adel's lips curved slightly. Now that he knew their headquarter, he now had a live target to test out the power of his God Arsenal, his set of offensive skills. He dared not to test them in modern society, as every space was constantly under surveillance, and he instinctively felt that he shouldn't use them in crowded areas.

Forest and seas were protected by the government, and he wasn't a registered cultivator. They would question him about this and that if his ability somehow turned out to be something absurd. He didn't want his carefree life to end.

'Perfect timing.' He thought to himself.

Once he had found a sufficient excuse, good and evil, moral and ethics, no longer apply.
