9 Let Me Think - 3.1

Holding such a tiny fragile treasure in his small arms, coupled with the promise he made to his mother, Feng Li Zian couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of protectiveness and responsibility towards the wide-eyes baby that was blinked up at him cutely while he cradled her soft little body gently.

Her big amber gold eyes looked so clear and innocent and the lashes that framed it were thick yet delicate, making her gaze all the more moving.

Still just a baby yet can already influence another person's emotion with just by a mere look!

Feng Li Zian couldn't help but feel affection towards the adorably delicate little one.

Gently, Feng Li Zian slowly swayed his arms from side to side, rocking his little sister while he cooed at her making the baby respond with a variety of sounds as if trying to reply to the words Feng Li Zian had softly uttered.

The heartwarming sight of the two children brought a smile to every single person's face when one saw it, from the maids attending to the unconscious Feng madam, all the way to their father, Feng Bing Wen.

What no one realized is that beneath the innocent happiness that the little boy was exhibiting just by holding his sister were troubled thoughts that shouldn't belong to a child of such a tender age.

Feng Li Zian suddenly spoke out quietly out of the blue, "Father, Li Zian would like to ask for some help..."

His usually playful yet timid voice now had an underlying tone of steel and seriousness in it, almost losing it's childlike innocence if not matched with the little boy's wide-eyed earnest look.

With a nod, Feng Bing Wen prompted his son to continue and explain further. "Go on."

With a deep breath, Feng Li Zian looked up and met his father's gaze. His clear brown eyes looked almost unfathomable, making you wonder what thoughts was hidden by those eyes.

The usual innocence and childlike wonder that was always present seemed to have disappeared to be replaced by a solemn and mature gaze that shouldn't belong to such a young child.

"Li Zian would like to ask father to stay at the capital to help protect mother and sister and teach Li Zian to become stronger so one can protect the family once father has to set off and join grandfather in the borders again. As your son, I, Li Zian am not willing to endure another attack by those who are threatened by our family and possesses ill intentions towards us! The only way to prevent that is for father to stay at the capital since I am not strong enough to fend the wolves off."

Silence descended upon the room once Feng Li Zian finished talking. All the servants were shocked at the young master's vehement words and they couldn't help but bow their heads further and keep their eyes on the floor and remained silent. All of them knew that the people who attacked the Feng household took advantage of the fact that both the old and current patriarch was ordered by an imperial edict to go and lead their troops in the war against the Cangdi Kingdom.

"Not a word of what you heard leaves this room and if I hear any inkling of it being spread, the punishment is death. Understand?" Feng Bing Wen slowly stated, his deep voice exuded with a demanding presence as he eyed each servant sternly as they all nodded in agreement.

"Qing Yuan, please look after little Ai first. Li Zian, come with me."

Without another word, Feng Bing Wen took the little baby gently out of his son's arms and passed her to Qing Yuan who was standing quietly at the side.

With another look towards his son, he strode out of the room with the little boy trailing behind him.

Arriving at his study, he instructed the guards he left posted outside to make sure no one interrupts them before ushering his son in and closing the door behind them.

"Li Zian, take a sit."

Immediately, the little boy took a sit at one of the chairs in his study while he tiredly sat down on his own on the other side of his desk.

"Father..." with a wave of his hand, Feng Bing Wen silenced his son Feng Li Zian as he closed his eyes and rubbed his temples tiredly.

"I already know what you are aiming to do. I know that you are worried about what happened and as your father, I completely understand."

Looking at Feng Bing Wen's usually proud and vigorous appearance looking exhausted and dejected for the first time, Feng Li Zian chose to keep silent and just stared at his father unblinkingly.

"I have already started investigating to find out who instigated the attack and I know you have suspicions as well but it is unwise to just say it out loud even if we are inside our own residence. No one knows who can be truly trusted. Remember some walls have ears too."

"Did father discover something?" Feng Li Zian asked, his voice sounding grave and the previous joy and excitement he had when he was holding his sister no longer present.

Sighing, Bing Wen eyed his son before giving him a nod to confirm, his serious expression made his strong heroic features look especially intimidating, completely corresponding to his image of a strong fearsome general.

With a huge hulking build and muscular physique, Feng Bing Wen already has a naturally imposing aura, coupled with his straight nose, dark midnight hair and hard features as if carved from stone, people are naturally intimidated by him. The only thing that softened his overall image is his deep brown eyes that were currently filled with worry as he stared at his son who seemed to have matured overnight.

One could not blame Feng Li Zian for the changes in his demeanor after all, he had witnessed ruthless assassins attack his home and try to kill his own pregnant mother as he hid. No one can imagine how he must have felt at that moment but looking at his son, Bing Wen felt that he at somewhat understood how Li Zian felt since he feels that it was the same as his.

The feeling of guilt and helplessness in the knowledge that there was nothing that both of them could do to help their loved ones during the attack. Although the feelings were the same, at the same time it was not.

Giving him a solemn look, Feng Li Zian asked, "Then what should we do?"

"Let me think..."
