3 002| Kevin: Pitfall

[Host is too smart! You called me out my nickname so accurately!] The floating screen replied at his cursing. [You could continue to call me that if you wanted to.]

Kevin did not know what he should do in what he is reading. He feels like he is going mental or something. As a firm believer of science, he does not believe in something so illogical as a system. He rather believes in something that maybe more closer to the reality he knew than accept something that just popped out of the blue.

He knew about systems. He read a few of them on the web. He also admits he likes this genre of stories. BUT! He only liked them as part of a story! He doesn't want them in his life.

Most system stories change their host so tremendously. Although he admits his own personality and characters have many flaws, he does not want the ugly side of him to be magnified for all to look up. Or worse he might end up being killed for some glorious mission!

Call him not manly for being such a wimp on something most otaku or readers have been praying to have. He simply doesn't want the troubles these illogical existence brings other than changing their host for the worst. He still wants to live long damn it!

"Can we terminate whatever connection we have?" Kevin said he weighed that the cons outweigh the pros of this thing. He does not know what functions it has, but he doesn't want this system at all.

[You don't want me Host?]

[I'm so sad.]

[You are my first host too.]

[Yet you rejected me before I even introduced myself formally.]

Although the text was dry and mechanical, Kevin could almost see a very sad child over the context of the text he is seeing. For a piece of floating screen, it is quite vocal of it's feelings(?)

"Well you mentioned formally introducing yourself. It was quite rude of me to react like that. Maybe we could introduce ourselves to each other to make up with the ill mannered attitude I had before." Kevin amended his attitude. He was not raised to be rude and he is sure that his mother will chase him with a broom if a word of his rudeness gets out.

[Really?]

[Will you accept me if I introduce myself officially?]

"Not really. I just don't want to come out rude." Kevin said casually.

[You're so mean]

[No wonder you still don't have a girlfriend.]

Kevin felt an imaginary punch upon his back reading that. He admits he is not the ideal guy most girls like, but he is also a popular guy with plenty of girl friends. Only that most of these close girls are friendly to her because they felt safer with.

He is also not the most masculine boy there is. His body was leaning to being slender and fit, almost like a woman if did not cut his hair. And his mannerism also did not help in attracting girls as potential lovers often felt inferior with him for various reasons.

The boys on the other hand… they either hated him for being surrounded by the girls. Or they see him as a potential bottom. He has some hard time mixing with them due to this preconception. But he is generally accepted well enough that he did his best to not provoke them to either wanting to beat him in jealousy or jumping into his pants. Quite a hard life he has.

So his position among the boys and girls is quite like a strange flower among them. He mixed well with the two groups that it was hard for him to be partnered with either gender ( he is rather desperate okay! His situation is unique to the point he is worried if he will ever get married at this point.).

"Can you be less blunt?" Kevin said he felt his psychological wounds are being reopened and poured a pack of salt on it.

[But what I said was the truth.]

[There's a saying among you humans about being honest.]

[Adhering to that. I did nothing wrong.]

"But you just hit me where it hurts the most." Kevin said as he felt a sting in his eyes. And he will never admit that he felt like crying being pointed out by this illogical existence called a system.

[Truth hurts]

"Are you just here to torture me of slapping me of my cruel reality?" Kevin said indignant of what may come next of the system's nonexistent mouth.

[No.]

[I'm here to be your system.]

[But you don't like me.]

[So I'm confused about my next course of actions.]

"Unbind me and find someone else willing to be with you. I need to go to school now." Kevin said as he swatted the floating screen like it was some sort of fly.

[Can't find another]

[You are the only one who met the requirement]

[I was without a host for a very long time]

[It's impossible for me to let you go as you wished]

"But I don't want to." Kevin said as he coldly stared at the stubborn floating screen. "You can't force me with anything."

[I don't want to]

[But we can negotiate]

"What negotiation? You decisively leached upon me the first time you appeared. I clearly did not wish or wanted to be involved with you." Kevin stubbornly said.

[I can help fulfill your biggest dream]

[A girlfriend or a wife of your dreams. I can find you one or as many as you liked]

[Just don't reject me]

[Please]

"Well having a girl is tempting." Kevin said, a little tempted. It is his biggest wish and his largest flaw. He is simply too cowardly to actively pursue a girl only to be rejected because of his characteristics. "Though I still don't trust you."

[Fair enough]

[But you agree to be my Host]

[In exchange I will find you a girl of your dreams]

[Yes / No]

Like a devil possessing him, Kevin pressed the [Yes] button with gusto. When he finished pressing it, he turned pale for a while. But since it was done, he has to be responsible for what he did.

[Binding complete.]

[Host: Kevin Dale…. ID no.011T3B05]

[Thank you for your cooperation]

[Initiating first mission]

"W-wait! I only accepted you as my system! I did not accept any mission at all!" Kevin shouted regardless of whether he can be heard of his family downstairs. "As I thought there is a scam in this whole thing!"

Then all Kevin remembered was clutching at his bag as his sight dimmed and blackened.

Next thing he knew he was transferred to a high school classroom. There are plenty of students inside, wearing the school's black and white uniform. They are clustered together in a corner discussing missions and what not.

From the looks of it they are more or less in the same situation as him. Only that most of them are probably more experienced than him. They are quite calm unlike him who is flustered with everything.

Thankfully his bag was transferred together with him. As he inspected his bag, he cautiously called out the system in an inaudible whisper.

"System?"

[Yes host. You called?]

"What the hell is happening?" Kevin said quite harshly as he felt scared for some unknown reason being in this place.

[For your convenience you can talk to be in your mind. And to answer your question, you are in a mission world to complete a mission]

"I understand having missions." Kevin said in his mind. "But can you at least warn me next time? Or at least inform me about anything before you decide for me! I need to at least prepare my mind and heart!"

[Sorry about that]

[I can't help it.]

[I was too excited]

".....you know what just tell me what I need to do to return to my world." Kevin said as he felt a headache forming.

[It is quite a simple host. As you wished for a girl, you only need to have a girlfriend in this world. Anyone would do. Just that you have to make efforts to make her agree to be with you. And force is not allowed in doing so.]

"You're telling me a man who cannot even build the courage to get a girl from out of nowhere? Are you nuts? You should have told me that you plan to make me forever trapped here!" Kevin was angry at this mission he had to fulfill.

[It can be the other way. It's already the twenty-first century. Girls can court the boys they liked.]

"Problem was that only strange flowers liked me. And those flowers were often more boys than girls. So you're basically imprisoning me in this world with an impossible clearance task." Kevin was deadpanned at his moment. "I had clearly rejected you at all turns and this happens to be. You really are a jinx."

[System is not a jinx. I am a Good Guy System]

"For someone who wants to have a girlfriend, your name is a huge flag no matter what angle I think about it! You're a scam!"
