Prologue

Present

It was already past ten in the morning when we arrived at our destination. The flooded sunlight hurt my eyes with its blinding light that my sunglasses deemed to be useless. My eyes scanned the sceneries I haven't seen for a long time.

No matter how many times I told myself that I wasn't the same girl that was trapped behind these iron gates, keeping me away from the public's eyes, I knew some things never changed. The closer we got to the Sun Estate, the more I felt trapped again by the same dilemma that haunted me years ago.

The original structure of the estate remained the same. It wasn't as large as the other Big 5 families' mansions but I could proudly say that this estate was better than the rest with its intricate designs that were made by our ancestors.

Sometimes, I wonder how had they spent their lifetime in this place that rarely gives solace in one's soul. Being here, I was reminded of all the pain I had to endure as a child. Just the mere thought of it was enough to shake my resolve for coming here.

My confidence was starting to dissolve and yet, I knew I cannot run away this time. I reminded myself that coming here was the best way to settle everything, to get what was mine and to seek revenge to those who wronged me. It didn't matter if they don't approve of my ways. They wouldn't try to understand me in the first place.

"Miss Feiyan?"

Lost in my own thoughts, I hadn't realized that the car stopped and my assistant was waiting for me. Chen Anqi had been working beside me for the past ten years. She was two years older than me but it felt like she'd become the sister I never had. Someone who understands me better than my own family.

"Miss Feiyan, your grandfather is waiting."

Turning to the sound of the voice, I saw Chen Anqi standing outside the door, waiting for me to step out of the car. She was always waiting for me. Sometimes I wonder if I'd taken a good part of her childhood when I allow her to work for me but then again, she'd never complained or disobeyed my wishes.

Taking a deep breath, I moved my legs outside the car and accepted her help to steady my steps as we walked towards the main entrance of the estate.

"Anqi, didn't I tell you not to call me 'Miss' anymore?" I chided her but she only smiled sheepishly beside me.

"Miss Feiyan, we aren't in country D anymore. In here, you are the young miss of the Sun family and I'm only your assistant." Chen Anqi rubbed the back of her neck.

I gave her a side glance, trying to see if she regret following me all these years, losing opportunities when she chose to stay by my side.

"Does it bother you?"

She blinked twice before realizing what I meant. "Not at all! Following you has been a great fulfillment. I learn a lot of things that I can never learn if I'm not beside you, Miss Feiyan! Your grandfather is very proud of you. He tells everyone how smart you are by taking a business degree and finishing law at such a young age."

That unwanted feeling started to rise again, threatening to break down the facade I've been building since I was young. I bit the side of my cheek trying not to offend Chen Anqi. It wasn't her fault why I chose this path. It wasn't her fault why I was born a Sun. This was the only regret I had in my life. Something I could never change even how much I want to.

All these fortunes that weren't really mine to enjoy, this status that was forced on me when I knew it should've been Lu Xinyi's. The years of sleepless nights just to satisfy the old man's expectation. My whole life had centered on meeting his expectations and pushing my greedy aunts at the bay. They were the true vultures that ruined the Sun family, ruined my childhood and my future.

In just mere hours, I was once again Sun Feiyan, the young miss of the Sun family, not the Sun Feiyan who pretended to be an orphan and lived as a commoner in a foreign land. I was once again the Sun Feiyan, the proper young miss that was revered by everyone, who wears the mask of perfection to hide the truth from the rest of the world.

The relentless training I had to suffer as a young miss of the family, the titles that were following my name. The surname I've been cursed to bear for all eternity. The only reason why I chose to part ways with him. If he knew who I really was, would he accept me?

They say I'm heartless? That's fine and that's because the broken pieces of my heart had been stolen by him.
