1 Introduction

"Hey, you stupid girl, quickly get up! Stop pretending to be dead!", sounded the husky voice of an older woman.

"Grandma, she's still not moving, she wouldn't really be dead?" Asked a young girl.

"Dead? This nemesis, I just kicked her a little and now she's pretending to be dead…" Although the old woman said it with confidence, deep inside her she was a little scared.

She just kicked her lightly, how could she kill someone?

Liu Xiaolan, a famous nemesis in the village, although not liked, but she still can't kill her for no reason whatsoever. If someone knew that she kicked her own granddaughter to death, it might impact the future of her grandson.

Thinking of this, she quickly took grasp of Liu Xinglan and run towards their home. "Come quickly, girl. If someone knows we killed her it will be problematic…"

An hour later, when the temperature was starting to cool down and the sun was setting down, Liu Xiaolan slowly opened her eyes.

Liu Xiaolan was feeling pain all over her body, her head hurt, and listening to the sound she seemed to be outside?

'What's going on?'

'Where am I?'

'Have I managed to escape death?'

'Perhaps this is hell?'

'But why is it so quiet here? I can only hear some wind going by…'

Yesterday, she was still the daughter of a well known family with generations of Chinese chefs. Her great grandfather was even an Imperial Chef for some time. Being the only child in her generation, she was groomed as the successor to their family business and her future was bright.

Coming back from her studies abroad, the last thing she could remember was the plane experiencing turbulence. Could it be she died? But if so, then where is she now?

Slowly, Liu Xiaolan head stopped hurting and she could remember some things that seem like a ridiculous drama shown on TV.

Originally, Liu Xiaolan was still confident that she could use her modern knowledge and cooking abilities in order to live a prosperous life. However, who can tell her what kind of ridiculous luck she has?

The original owner of this body was not only named in the same way as she was, Liu Xiaolan, but what was the most shocking was the fact that she was killed by her biological grandmother!

Liu Xiaolan's life was never easy. Her mother, Wen Ruiya, died giving birth to her. During her childbirth, grandma Liu didn't want to spend money, so she found the cheapest aunt possible.

In the end, the cloth provided by that aunt for childbirth was not sterile and ended Wen Ruiya's life with an infection.

Liu Xiaolan's father, Liu Xiao, was deeply in love with Wen Ruiya. However, since his early years he deeply believed in filial piety towards his parents.

Since he couldn't accept the fact that his mother pushed his own wife into a grave, he could only transfer his anger to the next person - Liu Xiaolan, his own daughter, pushing the death of Wen Ruiya on her head.

Since then, her life within the Liu family was never easy. When growing up, she could never eat enough food, usually only getting the family's leftovers, and sometimes not even that. Not to mention the fact that as far as she could remember, she had to help in their family's fields, otherwise she wouldn't get any food at all and would be beaten.

But what really turned her life upside down, was an old man, dressed in Taoist clothes. Once, he turned up at their village, saying that he was passing by.

Grandma Liu always liked to show her face in the village, so she invited the old Taoist to make a stop at their home.

At that time, because the Taoist saw her in the fields, Grandma Liu asked her to eat with them, for the first time, in fear that the old man would think badly about their family.

That old man seemed pretty greedy and wanted a bigger portion of meat. Grandma Liu didn't want to give up her family's food, so she decided that Liu Xiaolan's portion would be given to him.

However, how could Liu Xiaolan agree? This was the first time in her life when she could not only eat a full portion, but even get some meat.

The old Taoist saw that she was unwilling and in the end let her be. However, before leaving, he left the family some words, saying that Liu Xiaolan is a nemesis that will bring bad luck to anyone that is near her.

These words were heard not only by the Liu family, but also by some of the villagers staying near, hoping to see the Taoist. News spread fast, and by the end of the day everyone in the village knew that she was considered unlucky.

Liu Xiaolan's family didn't like her to begin with, and now that the Taoist even said that she was a nemesis, Grandma Liu couldn't wait to get rid of her. Originally she wanted to drown her in the river, but she was afraid that she would destroy her own reputation.

With no other choice, she simply kicked her out and asked the village head to cross her out of their family's genealogical record.

The head of the village, Ren Lanfeng, was a good person and didn't want to agree. However, when even Liu Xiao said that he didn't have a daughter like her, he was helpless.

Ren Lanfeng wanted the Liu family to give some compensation to Liu Xiaolan, but how could Grandma Liu agree to pass on their family's land towards that nemesis? After threatening to kill the girl, all Ren Lanfeng could do was to convince them to give Liu Xiaolan their old house.

Grandma Liu was afraid that if she didn't give any face to the village head, he would have a bad opinion on her later. Thinking that the old house was near the mountains, far from their fields and in a pretty bad state, she agreed and passed the house to Liu Xiaolan.
