1 Awakening

'Open your eyes... Open your eyes. Wake up, Link.'

Slowly I opened my eyes to see a bright blue light. I moved my limbs around brushing the walls of the container, I seem to be in a bathtub.

In a few seconds, the liquid drains away. Propping myself up I looked around and thought to myself, this is not my bathroom. Where am I, who am I?

I get out of the container dripping wet, I see a strange pedestal with something in it. To the right side of the pedestal was a closed door.

I went over to the pedestal, after getting near it, it pinged and shone blue. A small tablet could be seen lighting up.

'That is a Sheikah Slate. Take it. It will help guide you after your long slumber.'

The voice was familiar, then as if triggering something my memories came flooding in.

"Oh, now I remember. I probably fell asleep from over-exhaustion from spending all-nighters playing games. I think I was streaming Breath of the Wild and trying to do a speed run" (Link)

The only logical conclusion, I am in a dream.

In the game, the Sheikah Slate helped the hero along his adventure.

The ancient Sheikah Tribe was technologically advanced for its era, they created the Sheikah Slate and various other inventions. As the ages went by the techniques were lost.

Picking up the Sheikah Slate it immediately turned on, the screen flashed the familiar symbol. It was an eye with 3 triangles for eyelashes. With the Sheikah Slate in my hand, the door opened revealing my way out.

In the hallway were multiple crates and barrels as well as 2 chests. Opening them they contained a ruffed shirt and worn-out trousers. Immediately I put them on, I felt a little warmer. At the end of the hallway was yet another door, in the game, you use the Sheikah Slate and put it near the pedestal to open the door.

Again the voice called out.

'Hold the Sheikah Slate up to the pedestal. That will show you the way.'

Doing just that I hold the Sheikah Slate near the pedestal, the pedestal lit up with a blue hue. On the Sheikah Slate the words 'Authenticating...' were written, then 'Sheikah Slate confirmed' appeared. The door opened with blinding sunlight pouring in.

'Link... You are the light-our light-that must shine upon Hyrule once again. Now, go...'

Making my way out of the hallway, I took in the breathtaking scenery of the world. It was rich in vegetation with mountains scattered around. I saw a giant bird flying in the distance, but there was something off about the world, it seemed much bigger than compared to the game. On the cliff's edge, you would be able to see Hyrule Castle clearly, however it looked like a small dot barely visible.

I'm at the Great Plateau, in the game a deadly fog surrounded the plateau. In order to get off, I need to meet the Old Man and complete the 4 shrines.

"He should be down to the right of me" (Link)

I looked to the right expecting to see the old man. However, that was not the case, there was the overhang and an unlit campfire but no Old Man.

"That's different, I also wonder if this world is on Master Mode or not" (Link)

There was a path leading to the campsite, it was barren with wild plants growing to the side. While walking down the path to the campsite I thought of something. Picking up a nearby wild mushroom my Sheikah Slate turned on. On it was information such as how much health it can replenish and a slight description. Then the mushroom disappeared and a new tab with an apple icon appeared on the Sheikah Slate. Pressing the Sheikah Slate like a smartphone I went to the new tab to see that my mushroom was inside. Pressing the mushroom icon the mushroom appeared in my hand.

"Oh, so that's how that works" (Link)

In the game when you pick up an item they go to an inventory, I guess the Sheikah Slate was the inventory this whole time.

Putting the mushroom back into the Sheikah Slate I continue down the path. Along the way, I picked up every item I could find. Arriving at the campsite I was a little disappointed. I had hoped that it would trigger the quest and the Old Man would appear in front of me if I came to the campsite.

Thinking about it, why would it trigger the quest if I just went to the campsite. I probably just need to find the Old Man.

There are a few places the Old Man could be, either in his house, near the Great Plateau Tower, or hunting in the Forest of Spirits. The closet is the Forest of Spirits, I should go there first.

Along the way, I found the game's first weapon, an ax. It was embedded in a tree stump. Its damage is only three and it is better at chopping than fighting. What I want is the rusty broadsword near the ax.

Putting the ax in my Sheikah Slate I arrived at the pond with the broadsword, near the surface of the water were plants arranged in a circle. Jumping in the circle will give me a Korok Seed, poof a small green creature appeared out of thin air.

'Haha, you found me'

Giving me a Korok Seed it immediately ran away, putting the seed into the Sheikah Slate I swam to the middle. In the corner of my eye, I could see a stamina gauge. As I swim it slowly decreases, finally getting to the small island in the middle I pull out the broadsword from the rock. It does 6 attack damage, a slight upgrade to the ax. The only downside was the low durability of the weapon.

Swimming back to shore I prepare for battle. In the game, there should be a monster near the path you take to the Great Plateau Tower. As I advance along the path I see no monster.

"Hmm, well it would be strange if it just stood there all day or perhaps the Old Man killed it" (Link)

Still keeping my guard up I continued walking on the path towards the Forest of Spirits when I suddenly heard a shriek and then a blue bokoblin jumped out of a bush.

In front of me was a servant of Calamity Ganon. It was so realistic, it had the face of a pig and a short humanoid body. So it was here, it was just hiding. Holding my sword I prepared for battle, the bokoblin was armed with their usual clubs.

Though it has a slightly weaker weapon dealing 4 damage it has much more health than me, if my memory serves me right it should have 72 health points while I only have 12. Still, the reason Link was strong in the game was that he was fast, incredibly fast. However, I can only trigger my super-speed if I am in a life-threatening situation.

"I can still win, this is all or nothing" (Link)

The bokoblin charged at me swinging its club, failing to dodge I was hit.

"Ouch... Do dreams usually have pain" (Link)

On the top left of my vision, I could see 1 heart or 4 health points missing. Not missing a second I swing my sword, however the bokoblin was able to dodge it, it even did a counter-attack. I was knocked to the ground, I had 4 health points left.

Is this the end of my dream, it was so short. No, don't give up, you still have a chance.

Again the bokoblin swang its club down, I rolled to the side narrowly dodging its attack. I got up ready to attack, but the bokoblin was moving at a snail's pace.

"I must've triggered my super-speed!!" (Link)

Using this power to my fullest I struck the bokoblin as many times as I could, thankfully stun locking is a feature in this game. It took less than a minute to whittle his health down to zero. The bokoblin yelled its final breath before dying, its body began to emit a black mist before it disappeared leaving behind a bokoblin fang and horn as well as its club.

"I did it, I won" (Link)

Picking up my spoils I shouted my joy of victory.
