21 Past

I was ready to go, Alex was done preparing me for the dinner date with the guy that I have met earlier. She already filled me in the details about the guy.

He was her friend and they started liking each other for a while, but they decided to date each other and keep it as a secret from their friends. In result, they had planned for this single date for a month already. I was beyond stunned to know about it, I mean who would not think that it was absurd. I may not be well-versed in this kind of thing, but I have read a lot of books, so I had my own reference and it was far from being like this.

Well, enough about it, so I'm here waiting at some store where we would meet up and I know that I shouldn't be the one waiting and it should be the other way around but let's forget about the double standard about it first as I'm so nervous right now that I can't help but fidget the hem of my dress. I don't care how unladylike it may seem.

It was my first time dating and I'm so tense but excited at the same time. I want to know if dating is like what I read in books. If it really gives you the butterflies in the stomach and such. After a few minutes, I already see him running towards to me.

I feel so awkward that I don't know if I should stand up or stay seated on my chair but in the end, I chose to stand up to show some courtesy. He was catching his breath as I was watching him and offering him some water. He looked at me and then he smiled.

"I'm sorry for being late. I got stuck at the traffic so sorry for keeping you waiting." He signaled at me to sit down.

"Actually, you're not late yet. I'm just too early." I smiled at him to show that it was really fine with me.

"How's your day?" He asked me as he signaled for the menu.

"It's good" I really don't know what to say so I just answered vaguely to keep it safe.

"That's great! So what do you want to eat?"

"I really don't crave anything in particular right now so it's better if you choose our food for tonight." He smiled at me then he order our food.

We enjoyed our food quietly. It seems like he's not that talkative because in the whole duration of our date, he just asked me some mundane questions so I was able to survive it or maybe because this is our, i mean their first date so it may be a little awkward because there's a shift of feelings between them. Anyhow, I'm really grateful that I didn't commit mistake and I was able to finish it without getting caught.

I'm so exhausted from the date so I am planning to go to my bed when my sister suddenly barged in my bedroom. She asked me about the date so I just told her what happened. Luckily, she got satisfied by my answer so she leaves me alone after expressing her gratitude.

I was already on the door of the restaurant when I saw Alex on our table. I was shocked to see her there because it's still early. I ran towards her and made some excuse for being late and she smiled at me after saying it was fine and that she was just early.

I was mesmerized by her smile that the first question that came out in my mouth was asking her about her day. It was corny and cliché on my part because that's so common and there's a lot of things that we can talk about but I started by asking her about her day. It would also make our date awkward because we don't normally ask each other about our day.

I felt like this date was not meeting her expectations based on how she vaguely answer my questions. I'll just make sure that our next date would be more wonderful than this. I even forgot to tell her how beautiful she is, especially when she smiled at me. I can't forgot the look on her face that time and I'll make sure that it would stay that way as long as she is with me.
