9 9 - Declaration 2

Aki then led the two to his office. When they were already seated comfortably, he started telling them about how he knew that Chu (Cody) was eventually going to marry into their family but he did not have an inkling as to who among his granddaughters he was marrying with. It wasn't until they learned about George that he figured out that the two would be together in the end.

"But Grandpa, I was still married when you found out about me."

"It didn't and doesn't matter. I just knew."

"Whatever. How did I end up being married to Cody? I can't recall any marriage registration nor any wedding ceremony between us."

"Child, you were the first one to sign your marriage certificate. How could you not remember?" Then the old man chuckled and glanced at her.

"My dear heiress, do you remember the documents you signed two weeks ago?"

"Yes, of course Grandpa. Those are related to transfer of responsibilities to me."

"The last set was the one needed for your marriage registration including the certificate."

Upon hearing Aki's words, George momentarily felt betrayed as she was only told that those were company documents. However, knowing that she somehow allowed it to happen by not reading each of them, she didn't say anything.

"Alright, both of you. Since the union of the two families have been announced, I have to ensure that this marriage is consummated within the next three says or the Declaration Ceremony earlier would be a waste."

"I have asked the staff to move your things to newlywed room already. You will stay there in the next three days. Your food will be served there, too. You are not to go anywhere else..."

"What? Are you trying to hold us prisoners during this time?"

"George, how could I do that? You are my heiress and the only one who has a lot of my attributes despite growing up away from me. My dear, it is only because of tradition that you will have to stay there."

"Sweetheart, I know you might not have learned of this tradition as you have not witnessed the weddings of your cousins but I have learned about it. My forefathers have kept a detailed account in the Tang's libraries. I could tell you about it after we get some rest, okay? I believe that Grandpa has already told us what he intended to tell us earlier."

"Chu, you are such a filial grandson-in-law. Please take care of my princess."

"Of course, Grandpa. Now, let us walk you to your bedroom."

"No need. You two just go and follow the servants to your bailey. I will see you in three days."

The couple then headed out of the office not knowing that the old man asked a few of the servants to closely observe them and report developments promptly. He is hoping that George would bear an heir to the Abe-Tang union but he also felt guilty for tricking his granddaughter into marriage.

The sweet girl have gone through emotional turmoil in her previous marriage that the old man didn't have the intention of forcing her to be part of this union. However, knowing Cody and his sense of responsibility to the Tangs, Aki is comforted. To him, it seems that George found herself a good husband albeit hesitantly.
