12 12 - Wedding Night 1

As the old man suddenly left, the two stopped walking. Cody saw how troubled George looked. He understood that she didn't want to do what her grandpa said. However, he also knew that if their wedding night will not happen that night, there would be consequences and he wants to protect his wife from those.

He silently held her hand and led her back to their place. He was at a loss for what to tell her. He knew that no matter what he says, she wouldn't feel good about it.

When they returned to the bailey, they sat on a swing and Cody started talking about how his family prepared him for this union. Their ancestors had an understanding that the two families will have to be united as one through marriage and that every male offspring will be trained to be able to handle several businesses at once. Aside from this, they are told about the other families' traditions.

The older generations agreed that the female members need not necessarily know about business and politics. Both patriarchs were very protective and doting on their wives and daughters. Especially for their daughters, they wished for them to be cared for by their future husbands. Both were particularly strict in choosing an appropriate partner for their angels.

However, the female Abes and Tangs have always been highly educated and driven individuals. Since the fathers of each new generation care so much for their daughters' happiness, they were given all the support the family could give them.

Even up to the present, all women descendants have established a name for themselves. This is also true with George although she did not grow up in the Abe household. Her birth parents are both academics and so she and her younger brother were sent to schools of good reputation. They weren't rich but they had enough to provide for their children decently.

Based on her husbands narrative, she now understands why she was kept in the dark. However, the explanation is not enough for her to reconsider her earlier decision of keeping the marriage ON PAPER only.

Cody sensed that so he did not mention their current situation. He instead continued talking. This time, about his parents. He told her about his childhood and how he saw a wife doting husband in his father. He shared how he admired the way his father ran the business while taking care of his family.

He was so engrossed in reminiscing that George was taken aback when his voice started to break and he suddenly fell silent. It started when he mentioned his father's death. She thought he was just sad and is missing his father so she started to console him. However, he abruptly shook his head, turned his back on her and walked towards the house.

She was at a loss. She didn't know what to do. Looking at his receding figure, she decided to follow him in. He wasn't in the living room so she checked their bedroom. He wasn't there either.
