10 Academy

"Here is the academy. We are split into four different divisions. There is the Combat Magic Division, where the students learn about using magic in close combat; The Spell Division, where the students chant spells to deal damage from a long range; The Alchemy Division, where potions are made; and the Enchanting Division, where the best enchanted artifacts can be created," the guide introduced Roran to the academy.

"All of these divisions work in close connection. I am a Combat Magic student. I have, on me, an enchanted sword, a two-star healing potion, and an enchanted ring."

"What is the 'two-star' that you are were talking about?" Roran inquired

"We magicians divide items into different ranks. The lowest one-star, the highest ever seen a twelve-star. These are divided based on the amount of power contained. Every additional star needs to match up to a magician's rank, which is based on Mana. It is very complex, but there is a total of three major ranks, thirty minor ranks inside them, and then three hundred levels. In every major rank is ten minor ranks, and in every minor rank is ten levels."

"The major ranks are following: Mortal, Demigod, Divine. When you are a Mortal, your lifespan cannot expand. That is because of the Mana in your body not being pure enough to strengthen your body. When you are a Demigod, every single level gives you a year of extra life. Then, when you reach the stage of Divine, you are immortal, and will ascend to the heavens as a god. Of course, no one has ever achieved that stage in the history of our earth. The only Divine beings are the ones born with the power. The Olympians are a perfect example of that."

"What about the enchantments?"

"Enchantments are designed to strengthen a certain attribute of an item. It can be in seven elements. Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Ice, Light, and Darkness. However, Light and Darkness are so rare that there are only a few in the whole of Azeroth!"

"Earth is intended to increase the toughness, durability, or weight. Water to increase flexibility. Fire to burn, as the enchanted flames can burn much fiercer than normal fire. Air to reduce weight. Ice to freeze, as magical ice never melts."

"Light and Darkness are special. Light gives a boost on everything, while Darkness can weaken equipment around it."

"One thing to keep in mind is that although you can put multiple enchantments, any that contradict each other will instantly result in an explosion. For example, Fire and Ice, and Earth and Air. The most unreactive element is Water."

"Now you can choose what you want to be. Combat Magician, Spellmaster, Alchemist, or Enchanter."

"Combat Magician," Roran responded instantly, without hesitation. There were multiple reasons. Firstly, a Combat Magician was what he wished to be for all his life. Also, he has a sword, and is a little adept at using it.

"Of course. Follow me," The guide walked to the left. After around 50 meters they reached a huge hall. Ionic columns, over 30 meters tall, supported the space, which was colossal. Inside, were many doors, each leading off to different areas. The floor was made of pure marble, glistening, although hundreds of people are treading on it.

Roran was led towards a receptionist at the far end of the hall, "Hey, Vasilis, how's it going? I got a freshman here – Roran Avarenthis."

"I know 'em. Jordis had told me beforehand," The man said, and then added in a whisper, "I don't know how he knew that."

And then, the receptionist, Vasilis, spoke normally again, "Here, Roran. The uniform. It is a one-star artifact. It can offer protection from basically all normal sharp edges. By normal, I mean non-magical. Here is your card. It stores all your information, including credits. The school provides one credit every month. Credits can be used to buy potions, enchanted artifacts, spells, etc. You can earn credits by giving the school monster parts, and other useful materials. There are also missions that you can do to gain some credits. Also, Jordis wanted me to give you something," The receptionist took out a small package, and handed it to Roran.

"Thanks," Roran responded weakly, slightly overwhelmed by this flood of knowledge.

"Oh, and your room is 905," The receptionist said hastily.

Roran was instantly hustled to his room.

Once Roran was inside, he looked around. There was a bed, a table, two holes on the left-hand wall, and a small slit next to them.

He instantly dropped himself onto the bed, and then checked everything.

After fiddling around for a few minutes, he found some instructions on the table, hidden in a small cabinet.

"The hole to the left is for putting monster parts inside. They will automatically go to the warehouse. If you put your card inside the slit, you can receive and use credits, and read information that is stored inside. The hole on the right is for receiving your purchased items," Roran muttered to himself as he read the small pamphlet.

He instantly put the card inside the slit to look at his credits. A small hologram popped out of nowhere. It said Roran had ten credits.

Then Roran went on to open the package that the receptionist gave him. It was a small watch-like item. There is a piece of paper inside too. It said: This watch is a four-star shield. If you will for it to expand in your mind, a shield will immediately slide out. Also, remember to give the monster parts you've gathered for some credits.

"Huh, classic Jordis."
