The test 2

"The aptitude test will be done in that tube that you see in the center of the room. When your number is called you will work into the tube, the tube will take five seconds to scan you." The woman then pointed to the pad in the hands of the man.

" The pad in the hands of my partner is used to control the tube and also collect data from your results." She then pointed to the screen that was on the wall on the opposite side of the wall. "That screen will be where he will upload your results when the test is done. It will be beside your number. Now my partner will explain how to pass the test."

The man who was holding the pad looked at the group of over a thousand kids. "Uh, to pass the test, you have to pass the cut-off mark I think." He spoke in a very uncertain way. " The cut-off mark is hundred, yes yes hundred." Everyone found his way of talking very funny, it was as if he was confirming the information to himself, instead of the test takers.

"The scanner at the center is what will scan you if I remember correctly. It will grade your genetic ability based on the amount of Meta energy you possess in your body. Uhm, also if you fall under the mark, your test will end here."

" Asher, this test should not be problematic for you, your man-- sorry I mean your Meta is above average. " Elsa said.

"I hope it is. " Asher responded.

Asher was a bit nervous, he missed the slight slip-up when Elsa was talking.

'Thank goodness he didn't notice,' Elsa said to herself.

The test kicked off after the man finished explaining. Students starting from number one began entering the tube under the guidance of the two uniformed instructors.

Nobody knew what the score of anybody was, not even the people themselves. The score would be shown on the screen with their numbers, this was probably for secrecy.

Person after person they kept entering and coming out five seconds later. After some time, Asher's turn finally came. Like the others before him, he stepped through the door, and the glass door slid back shut, closing the tube.

Five seconds later he stepped out, he went to stand in the room to wait. Unlike the people who were here to watch, they didn't have any seats and had to stand.

Two hours later, the test rounded up as the last person came out.

"Now that we are done, we will upload the scores to the screen. If you see that your score is ninety-nine and below, please head out of the room."

The screen lit up, revealing the scores alongside their numbers. The screen was very large, so it could accommodate the entire one thousand and twenty scores. The screen was visible to those who came to watch as well, as they sat on the opposite side.

Asher looked through the screen, searching for his number. He saw a lot of numbers with scores less than a hundred they were probably more than he if the total number.

Also, some went far above the cut-off mark, reaching two hundred and three hundred. Then there were the few that managed to enter four hundred.

Soon Asher found his number, looking at the score, it read 398. Asher drew a cold breath, he did not expect it to be this high.

"Elsa, I thought you said I was above average?" Asher gave her a questioning gaze.

"Don't look at me like that, it depends on what humans see as average. I didn't think that their concept of average would be this low. " Elsa lied as easy as breathing, she knew that he had a high energy level but she didn't want him to feel too proud.

Asher had gotten his abilities not up to a month, those that had high levels had probably trained theirs from an early age. He on the other hand had such a high level only after a week, this was outrageous.

Asher looked through the screen, he found that the highest was someone with a score of 412. Asher made a note to find those with scores from 350 to 412, those were going to be his competition in the program.

As everyone saw their score, half of the test takers began leaving with their heads hung low. They had not been cheated in any way, but their strength just fell short. There was no one to blame but themselves. Getting a high level of Meta energy was something that came by birth or through intensive training.

If one was not lucky enough to be a prodigy from birth, then they would have to train to increase their Meta levels. So they could only be blamed for not working hard enough.

When everyone that had failed stepped out, the woman spoke. "Congratulations to all of you for passing the first test, as of now there are four hundred and sixty-two of you."

This meant that more than half failed, it was a massive cut down in number. This meant that about half of the people here had a one out of two chance to pass and join the program.

"The next test will held in a different room upstairs. As for the details of the test, I am not at liberty to say. You will all return to the room you came from and wait for further instructions."

As she finished speaking, the test takers began returning to the first room. Asher looked around, trying to find someone. He found Ezra among the people who passed.

"Good, he passed." Asher wanted an opportunity to duel Ezra, so he was happy he passed the test.

Everyone entered the first room, and so did the people that came to watch. Asher saw his mum and went over to meet her.

"You passed." His mother said happily, she did not know his score, but since he didn't leave with the others that failed she knew he passed.

Asher flashed a dazzling smile. "I got 398 mum."

"What?" She had seen the screen and she knew that 398 was a very high score, as the highest was 412.

"Yup, I got 398 mum, seems I am talented."

She moved and caught him by the ear. "Don't get cocky."

"Ow, ow, ow, I am sorry Mum." Asher cried out.

"Good, you better keep a level head in the test. "

As she pulled his ear, the screens in the room lit up again. It was time for the second test.
