1 Job?

I walk down the street my footsteps leaving prints in the fresh snow. Chills run up and down my spine. I hug my thin clothing tighter around my body. The little boy clung to me. His large jacket drowning him in warmth.

We make it to the store and as soon as we do he runs in, eager to see Rick again. Rick, the cashier, smiles as the little boy runs to him and hugs his legs. I smile at Rick and give a small wave. "Good evening Audra, Aiden, what can I get you two today?" Rick said still smiling.

"Evening Rick, were just getting some essentials today. No need to help us." I reply.

I leave Aiden with Rick and browse around the store. I just needed some food to get us through the rest of the week. Aiden was eating more than usual, probably another growth spurt. I fill up a basket with all the things a growing boy would need and a few other things and head on over to Rick to check out.

He scans my items and bills me. Once that's done I grab the bags and bid Rick a good night and leave the store with Aiden clinging on to me. "Can I get one mummy?" Aiden asks. "Of course sweetie, here you go." I say handing him one of the lighter bags. He seems happy as we continue on our way home.

The night is dark. The snow heavy and fresh. The only sound being our footsteps crunching the fallen snow. Very few people are out at this hour but some people drive by.

Once we reach home Aiden goes to his room to get ready for bed while I put away the groceries. Once I'm done with that I head to my room and take off my sweater. I kick my shoes off and walk out and over to Aiden's room.

He's sat on his bed waiting for me to tuck him in. "Goodnight Aiden, sweet dreams, l love you." I say kissing his forehead and tucking him into bed. "Night mummy, I love you too." he says back. I turn on his night light and exit the room shutting off the lights and his door.

I sit at the kitchen table a newspaper in my hands. I search through till I find the jobs list.

Waitress, Cashier, Sales person....ECT. One job in particular caught my attention the most. working as a waitress at my favorite coffee shop. It's a local business and the people are always friendly.

I tear out the job info from the paper and put it on the fridge. Once that's done I head to bed.

The Next Morning.....

I wake up to my alarm blaring in my ear. I lazily slide out of bed and over to my closet. I pick out one of my nicest outfits and head to the bathroom. I quickly shower and dress myself. I fix my hair in a tight braided bun and head to the kitchen to make breakfast.

I cook scrambled eggs with orange juice. Once breakfast is ready I pack Aiden's bag for school. Once that's done I walk over to his room. I knock on the door before coming in.

He's sat on his bed tooth brush hanging from his mouth as he attempts to tie his shoes. I let out a small chuckle, he looks up at me and smiles goofily. "You want some help bud?" I ask. He nods his head rapidly. I smile and bend down in front of him. I lace up his shoes while he finishes brushing his teeth.

Once we're finished with that we head to the kitchen to eat. "Did you get a job mummy?" He asks sweetly. "Not yet but I'm gonna go job hunting today. I've got a great potential employer." I answer. He nods his head.

Once he finishes his food he takes his plate and loads it in the dishwasher. I do the same and grab my purse and heals. "You ready to go Aiden?!" I yell across the apartment. He pokes his head out of his bedroom door and nods. He races out and grabs his bag slinging it over his shoulder. I take his coat off the coat rack and hand it to him. He puts it on and together we leave for school.

I liked our apartment location as it was in the middle of town nearby to mostly everything. Especially the school. We walk to the school our footsteps imprinted in the snow. Once we arrive I walk him in the building to his class. People give us the look as we pass by but we ignore them.

I'm stood outside his classroom waving goodbye when I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around to see one of the teachers. I smile, "Good morning" I say in greeting. The woman doesn't smile back, "You seem to be a little young to be dropping off your son to school." She says rudely. "I'm sorry but that doesn't seem to be any of your business." I reply back. "How old are, you can't be any older then 23!?" The woman snaps back. "Listen lady, it doesn't matter how old I am what matters is how well I take care of my kid which is none of your concern, so I suggest you back the heck off!" I yell frustrated with these stupid people.

I leave the school already in a bad mood. I storm across the town towards Betty's Coffee shop. I calm myself before entering the shop. I am greeted with the heavenly smell of coffee and freshly baked goods. The smell alone was enough to calm the rage I felt. I know I shouldn't let others remarks bother me so much, it's just when it comes down to Aiden I tend to get overly protective of him. He's just so young, to be fair I was too, I still haven't figured my life out yet but I'm trying. I zone back in and focus on the task at hand, getting a job!! I make my way up to the current cashier. "Good morning, My name is Audra Peterson, I would like to apply for a job here." I explain. The cashier nods his head, "Well your in luck Audra, One of our employees just quit leaving a spot open for any new comers. The bosses name is Tom, he's the grandson of the original owner Betty Waters. He is very kind like his grandmother and I'm sure you'll get the position. My name is Manny by the way." Manny said cheerily.

He leads me to a small office in the back. "This is Tom's office, just knock on the door and await your destiny!" He said smiling.

I knock on the door.....
